Root [ROM] Angry Bean / CM 10.1 [build 08.08.13]

So restoring the app only leaves me with broken VVM and no notifications, but if I restore app + data it all works. I am still receiving the text messages though. From what I understand, those messages are how the VVM app learns that it has a new message to download and shouldn't actually appear in your text messaging app. A googling of the //ANDROID part brings up plenty of information on the matter. It sounds as if there is a communication breakdown between the sms app and the VVM app, leaving new message notifications to be missed by the VVM app. For what it's worth, I use Chomp as my default sms app.

Also, the setting that I mentioned before is apparently not in the VVM app. So unfortunately, I'm not sure what I had played around with or where it was.

Someone should try what is mentioned here and see if it changes anything. I have terrible 3g where I am at so I don't know if the message was actually sending.

Can you send me the Titanium Backup + Data? I would like to see what is in there that is allowing the VMM to work.

Thanks :)

Thought I would also reply here as well G60 so that others could join in on the conversation

As I recall I did nothing to get the notifications working...I originally restored the VVM app from a titanium backup (app+data from an ICS ROM) on the 3/31 build of your ROM. As expected, voicemail notifiations did not work and the VVM app showed none of my saved messages. When I upgraded to the 4/3 build I didn't wipe /data so the app was still installed. Last night I missed a call and noticed later that I had notification for a new voicemail, so I opened up the app and there were all my messages.

When I originally restored the app on the 3/31 build, I went through the settings and recalled finding some sort of option for verifying your voicemail with sprint or something like that. Since that has been awhile I don't recall exactly what the option was and looking through the settings now, I don't see anything that rings a bell. Sorry :/ Since I did the verification, however, I've been getting text messages each time I get a new voicemail. They look something like this

But still, last night was the first time since I installed the 4/3 build that I have missed any calls which led to a voicemail being left. I've tested it a few times as well to make sure it works and so far it still does.

I am tempted to uninstall the app and restore from the backup to find that option again, but I am also afraid of losing the only known working voicemail configuration in the forum haha :D

Titanium has been workaround for this on a lot of ROMS. After reading several posts on this site and XDA about the issue my personal method (which is pretty OCD but I've hardly ever had a problem) is to:

-Flash a Stock ROM
-Make sure the VVM apk is updated to current version if not already in the ROM.
-Open the app so you're phone info loads.
-Backup (app+data) using Titanium Backup

After flashing whatever ROM and after its been confirmed its up and running.
-Install a Sprint VVM apk (I keep one on my SD Card)
-Go to Titanium and restore "App Only" of your saved voice mail from above.
-After installation using Titanium restore "Data Only".
-Open file.
-Restart phone and profit.

Obviously you just need to do the first part once to get the Voicemail app into Titanium and obviously after restoring data it will only restore the voicemails saved when you backed up in Titanium when.

(Few steps probably aren't necessary or may be an easier method such as installing the apk file from my SD card before restoring the Titanium and restoring App and Data in two steps instead of the combined one has given me the fewest problems so I continue to do so).

** Updated to include a screenshot but see that a fix has been made and is working in the time I could switch over restore, great job G60!! For whatever its worth now.

I was able to use Titanium to restore the VVM apk on b_randon14's CM10 for the Galaxy S2 4G.

I backed up the stock VVM from version 4.0.1 and was able to restore it to CM10. VVM worked in his first version of CM10 but had an issue in his update. He was successfull at including a working VVM in the initial release of his rom. I'm not sure what he did.

Any special version of the Sprint VMM?

Sent him an IM message. Will see if he can give me the down low.

Can't receive any text since I updated to the newest one. Having couple issues with this update, some apps won't download also.
Texts working perfectly for me... fwiw, they worked on the previous version and I only wiped cache+dalvik.

Have you tried the fix I mentioned in this post? I didn't have to redo that for this Angry Bean update, but again, maybe that's because I didn't do a full wipe...

PMed you the download link :)

So has anyone ever figured out why this works and what what causes the problem? I'm assuming this is a problem on all Sprint/Virgin Mobile/Boost ROMs? Or has it been seen on other carriers as well?

Thanks :)

So basically my my messaging is broken now, even if I install a lower version still having the problem, any idea what I can do?

All,

I have created a new VVM apk specifically for the CM10.1 Angry Bean ROM. As long as you are using the stock Angry Bean ROM this fix will install without any problems and the 9016 text messages will no longer show up! This will only work if you HAVE NOT installed my other flash. If you have installed that flash, wait till later today 3/9/2013 for a new ROM I will be releasing probably around 8-8:30 MST

INSTALL:
PLEASE FOLLOW COMPLETELY
1. Download to SD card, reboot to recovery and install zip.

2. Reboot and launch Voicemail App, and let it provision. As long as no errors occur after 3-5 mins it should have provisioned.

3. Reboot to recovery and flash the zip again and reboot

4. Back on desktop launch the voicemail app it should now be black which means the Virgin Mobile settings have taken effect

5. At this point call yourself and leave a voicemail message. Wait 10-20 seconds and a new voicemail should show up.

I used to use wild for the night and I'm consider using this as my daily if a few things can be answered.

1) how's the audio on here?
I use my phone as my mp3 player (64GB card) and on wild for the night the audio was weird sometimes when listening to music via headphones. If I got a call in the middle of a listening to music and picked up, when returning back to the music after the call the music sounded like you were under water (headphones with a mic were used for music and call)

2) how's game play on here?
I have all the emulators available for Android and play a hell of a lot of subway surfers. They were laggy on wild for the night.

3) how's voxer on here?
When using voxer I couldn't send voice messages via the mic on the headphones.

4) does this have the bootloop of death? Lol
I hated that on wild for the night!! Lol

5) how's video playback on here?
Some videos were really laggy on wild for the night and I watch me a lot of anime and YouTube videos downloaded.

That's about all I can think of for now lol I loved using jelly bean but reverted back to Mobsters Rom HD Lite cause of those issues I was having. I appreciate the feedback cause I really want to make a jelly bean rom my daily. Thanks peeps.

I'm not having the audio distortion or video lag at all in here at all. Pretty much every problem I've had with 4.1+ roms don't exsist on this one other than kernel tuner acting up on the second core but mac kernel fixed that.

∙ Fixed SurfaceFlinger Logs from Logcat - janyahoo
∙ Created new flashable VVM for Angry Bean -g60
∙ Rolled back RIL files to stock ROM - Chairshot

Finally the blasted logcat is clear of blaster error messages. In adding the fix from janyahoo it also resolved video playback for YouTube so no more black screen. Last night I also released a new VVM for Angry Bean, as long as you install this against a new flashed ROM it should not only resolve Visual Voicemail, but also kill the 9016 text messages. Finally Chairshot rolled back the RIL libraries from stock Virgin Mobile and we are seeing an improvement for overall connectivity.

As always Enjoy :D
