Root [ROM][AOSP]dGB v01_28_2012| 2.3.5| 375MB /data| 60MB /system |Mult-lang |Unlock |Reboot[28 Jan]

The desire hasn't got n hardware. I'm amazed it goes over 54. Mind you what it says and what it does are two different things
I'm not. I can copy files over the network at roughly 9 MB/sec. I have peaked out once copying over at 10.3 MB/sec which by all accounts is roughly 83 Mbps.

Mind you these peak values happened only 3 or 4 times. But the rest of the time I get consistent 8,5-9,5 MB/sec transfers. It's actually faster for me to transfer to my phone via WiFi than with USB cable since for some shitty reason the Desire won't transfer via USB within a ROM at the same speeds it does when in recovery.

cant believe i haven't messed with my desire for ages mainly cus this rom is so good for me!!

anyway recently i get low storage warning, when i have like 35mb left still? this normal, does it mean im gunna have to move some games to sd?

cheers

I must say, this is one awesome desire rom. So many "I can't believe everybody else doesn't got this already"-features (%-battery, almost all imaginably useful widgets/settings on the notification bar, ultra low power usage, etc) while still being ultra slim/no nonsense and allow for a HUGE /data. Already put this rom onto 3 Desires and probably a few more to come. Really sad to hear though you'll be dropping it SUroot, though I guess it makes sense considering you plan on moving on hardware wise.

A few things I've noticed the few days I've been playing around with dGB

1) APN-list
I'm not sure it's the wisest thing to remove this automagic. Does it waste a lot of space? Because while it's not a big problem for me to add this info manually, even when changing sim to another operator, some of the people that I put this excellent rom on their phone for will be completely lost at sea if they change operator a few months from now. And god forbid one would travel abroad for a 2-3 week holiday and decide to pick up a prepay sim at a local operator...

So, if it's really just too big a blob to include this automagic by default, could you possibly put together an .apk that add this functionality back?
I would put it on my own phone, just for lazyness/convenience, and everybody else

Dunno to be honest, I've never got that low. I do move to sd though. Would be interesting to see how low you can get before you stop installing things

i thought exact same thing so i tried restoring old back ups fro titanium, got to 35 ish all went on sd then, i couldnt move them to phone after. not enuff space. so maybe it leaves the last 30 for the small amount u get on phone after moving to sd?

I just got a new major problem. Wifi doesn't work. When i try to turn it on, it says "Error" right under it. Do I have to reflash?

I've come across one phone that is "funky" with this as well. If reflashing doesn't/didn't help, then try to turn off BT and Mobile data connection BEFORE turning wifi on. If that works, then you can turn BT and MD back on again. Once you've received an error though, phone must be fully rebooted before it can work again.

I think I read somewhere that 15MB is the minimum free space on /data, which sounds believable from my pre-rooted phone days when I kept bumping into "out of space" issues.

1) I really can't remember what was removed and changed or how much space it saved, it was almost a year ago. It probably would fit back in but my machine isn't even set up as a build machine any more.

2) that's just where it is in android by default. I didn't even think of re arranging androids existing menus.

3) dunno. Try it

1) Oh darn :(
No way to make a diff or something so someone can figure out what changes needs to be done to get it back?

2) Even a desktop or notification-dropdown widget to turn it on/off would be a huge improvement. :)

3) Will try to get her a non dGB Desire to take with her and see what info she can bring back.

But I guess the real issues here is that we won't see more dGB versions from you and nobody knowledgeable enough has show interest to pick up the ball and run with it(?). So sad.

Yeah 15MB should be the limit and once hit, installs should fail. So installs are failing at 35?

well not failing just installing to sd card instead. if i try to move i get no space available.

at the mo i have 33 apps all on phone nothing on sd. with 37.9 free. if i install any backups without data aswell they go straight to sd.

i dnt mind using sd card, just wondered why it would stop at 35ish

having just updated dropbox. it seems my mb went up but the ow storage came on my screen!!

What app(s) are you trying to move (and how big are they)? Some are 23MB+ in size, which would make it not fit on the phone.

Have a look at the sizes of your apps (and their data). Either use Quick System Info or just the Manage Applications menu, but sort by total size. It may be that some apps are using a pathological amount of data (can happen with contact storage, social apps, though I've never heard it as severe as this implies).

Titanium can give you a breakdown of apps by app, cache & data size.
Menu>More>Overview of app storage use then select order by: Data size.

I confirm I get the warning at 35MB too. I actually .managed to get to 4MB remaining space, but that was whilst moving a 50MB app to phone

so dan did you get past the 35mb warning? or just move stuff to sd.maybe the system needs 35mb for the small part of app that stays on there when you install to sd ?

its not a massive issue i can just move games to sd free up a load of space then.just weird it does it

I did but only because I was moving a large app from sd that took me below the limit. My limit is actually 37MB. This is because the limit is 10%.

I can turn the alert off from 10% to 2% (easy in terminal( but that doesn't help apps. It should help message (sms and email) that would also get blocked at that threshold

Yes. You can change the threshold for the warning in terminal:

Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/database/settings.db

insert into secure (name, value) VALUES('sys_storage_threshold_percentage','2');
Will give you a 2% warning. It will only affect messages however. App moves / installs are still blocked at 10%
