[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

One more thing before I get to flashing the wife....her phone that is. :) Are any of you using a custom kernal w/ this ROM? If so, please let me know so that I can flash that as well. :)

Thanks!

Stick with Stock - it is a branch of Deca's and runs VERY VERY well.

Sobe & Deca have the .35 Kernel working and should be getting perf tweaks soon.
Sounds like it will be built in - once it is ready!

Well then I'll get to flashing this thing after I put the kiddos down. Thanks Cat! :)

That was not called for, LOL at least not like some others I had a back up, and a few Devs have done the same also, in the format section all it has to do is give you a confirmation of what you are formatting, just like it does before you confirm cache and davlik wipes, it says are you sutre you want to format, but does not say what.

and FYI if in time you ever still wanted the CM settings still in the Rom when he fully goes to Vanilla, you could always extract the CM parts apk from previous versions and install it back in the Rom zip before flashing. I believe it is CM parts I am trying to get confirmation as i know many will still want the CM settings

So you're saying don't do a 'DonB'? ;)

Yeah, I have been following s0be's work on the .35 Linux kernel for some time now and I can not wait for it to be ready. The Linux kernel we are on now, even in AOSP Android 2.3, is technically .29 which is the same one as Android 2.1. ;)

Of course that kernel was tweaked to work best with the newer builds of Android. I just like getting updated versions of things. :D

Can you let me know how to extract something like that when you find out... thanks

I am currently running the 3/08 version of this mod and I gotta say it is slick. I am about to flash the latest version and see how I like vanilla.

One problem I am having right now is with sprints VVM. I switched to google voice for my voice mail and I keep getting an error from the stock sprint voice mail. I can't uninstall it from my applications as far as I know. Any suggestions? If I could get rid of this annoyance this mod would be about perfect. :)

Do you have titanium backup? If you do you should be able to uninstall from there. Or if you do a full wipe before you load the newest update spint voicemail is not preloaded on this rom and therefore would also eliminate your problem.

Full wipe is the only way I know of. I was hoping for another alternative, since I have everything set up how I want it right now. Negative on the Titanium backup. :(

Just download it from the market. Open it up click on the backup restore tab in the middle on the top. Find sprint visual voicemail in the list click on it and hit uninstall. This will remove it. This a handy app to have regardless it lets you back up your apps so you don't have to redownload when you do a full wipe and get rid of apps you don't want or need

Thanks. I did not know that Titanium backup could do that. I have never used it. That seems easy enough. :D

Hey no problem. Just don't go uninstalling apps you're not sure about as some apps are required for the phone to work. But visual voicemail is obviously fine.

Just upgraded from 3/23 to 3/24. I did I speedtest.net right before I flashed. I got a 387kbs download speed on 3/23. I flashed 3/24 and did a speedtest.net immediately and got a 1075kbs. The rom seems pretty smooth.

Sheesh...the devs of this ROM are flying with these updates! I guess the good thing is that there's not a lot involved in flashing these updates, i.e. no date wipe. Cache, dalvik and mounts/storage: format cache and voila.

I downloaded cm_heroc_full-30_zip so is this the latest one? The OP of this thread says 3/24 is the latest but the date for this file is 3/23.

Do I have to have the cmod recovery image to run this? If so then where do I get the file and how do I load it to my phone?

Please, anyone that replies, don't be an arse and tell me to "read the thread" (or some other thread) as some of these threads are several pages long and the information gets confusing. Be nice or I'll put a hex on you. :-)

You must have a bad download because the file in the OP is 3/24

I took the download link from a link andygu3 has in post #660. Then I looked in another thread and it looks like the 3/24 file is a different rom. (aosp?) I'm still trying to get answers about what recovery image to use (and how to flash it) and most of all which file for that memory mod (firerat?) to use and how to load it so I don't have to use apps2sd. I have asked these questions in a couple other threads this morning so maybe someone will throw me a bone.

Seems like you're alot confused about alot of things. You have to flash CW Recovery image before you can install a rom. You can do this by downloading Rom Manager from the market and using the app to do so. And make sure you do ALL the research you can before flashing anything. And always remember to do a nandroid back up before flashing roms.

I tell you all this assuming you're successfully rooted. If you don't fully understand everything above, try and do a little more research before anything else. One wrong step and you could end up with a paper weight. :-)

That is not the AOSP Android 2.3 ROM. The file you mentioned above is a CyanogenMod 7 nightly ROM. They are two different builds. One is an official CyanogenMod 7 ROM and the other is based on CyanogenMod 7, but is moving towards a vanilla experience, like the Google Nexus S gives you.

To install a recovery, you need to be rooted and then go into the Android Market and download ROM Manager. After that, you can flash ClockworkMod Recovery from the first option in ROM Manager.
