Root [ROM] CM7 Nightlies EVO Community

I am running CM7 nightly #14 and have no issues with it at all now. Battery life with the kernel that came with it sucked but I have switched to Savage 1.6 and it looks alot better so far today.

Did you try a full wipe before restoring it?

No I didnt wipe anything.... I was under the impression that it wasnt necessary when doing a restore??

It isn't supposed to be but I had a problem when I tested Savage-zen 0.1.0. I didnt like the way it was on my phone so I nandroided back without a wipe and the issue was still there. Full wipe and restored the same nandroid took care of it. Not sure if there is something to it or just coincidence.

cool I'll give it a try, I hope it works. I went back to my Evervolv nandroid and it just seems so plain compared to CM7 now lol

no doubt, I love all the extras/add ons and its faster. I didnt care for CM6 when I tried but I'm loving 7. Hopefully my restore will work after a wipe.

The power controlls in the notification is huge for me too, I dont how people live without them

I think you guys should wipe completely meaning data, cache, and dalvik before flashing or restoring. I would even go as far as formatting .android and sd ext. That's what I do when I flash to another rom or if I do a nand back up. I do copy to sd and have ext 3 set up on my sd so I have to do it. It takes like 5 extra seconds so it's not big a big deal. I have noticed in some nand backup if I dont do a complete wipe some info from the previous rom shows up. I'm not sure if it's something to do with RA recovery or not but since then I always do a compete wipe. In some cases I also do a wipe cache and dalvik after nand restore or rom flash.

EDIT: I meant ext3 not ext4.

Definitely the most customizable Rom I have run out of the box hands down. I love having the power control there too

If in fact it is, I am thinking that it might be info in the partitions that arent backed up. Then when it is restored, the info that wasnt overwritten causes issues. I haven't verified any of this so it is just conjecture at this point.

so if I flash Caulkins format all and then restore will that take care of the .android sd ext that you are talking about?

It worked!!! I've never been more happy to see that litle blue skateboarding bastard lol!
Thanks a ton guys!! I hate starting from scratch :)

Thats great news! Ya starting from scratch is a PITA. I have over 100 apps to restore and thats not including settings, but in the end its all worth it. Thanks to Nand backup or Titanium Back up, it makes it must more easier and faster.

You can probably get away with not wiping before a restore when going from sense to sense but never cross from sense to aosp without a complete format. I just format all the time no matter, its not a big deal.

Still had issues with 14 despite my attention to completely formatting and everything. It weird that it wouldnt pull up my widgets i dont have them on the sd card and i dont use any a2sd or apps2sd. They were on the phone and still didnt work. Honestly seems it was with adw ex, or for some unknown reason my apps when to the sd card on that one build without my knowledge, highly unlikey...

I'm going to give the new RC2 a shot ... what's the best way to backup and restore my apps when switching from Sense to AOSP?

Most use Titanium backup for that. You need to be careful what you restore though as some system data, especially going from Sense to AOSP can cause problems.

yea I know the "proper" way is to do a backup and then restore just the apps you want 1 by 1, but I'm an inpatient bastard, so I just do a batch restore and uncheck the stuff that I know for sure is from sense. I havent had any problems so far knock on wood

but defiantely do not restore system data, just apps and app data only. System data from sense will definately cause probs on AOSP

I normally back up first with titanium so my back ups are up to date. Then use it to restore. When restoring I restore apps with data separate to restoring just app no data. Some apps like utility and such don't need that extra data to restore.

Hey guys, how are ya? I'm writing because I'm having a problem. FYI, I'm running CM7 nightly #14 with Savaged Zen .07 an a 0003 EVO.

A few moments ago, I installed a few programs (Pulse, Greader and another I can't recall) and got a low disk warning. Just as I was about to take care of that, the phone randomly rebooted. This happens occasionally, as is to be expected with nightlies, so I've gotten a little accustomed to it.

However, the phone has been stuck in a boot loop on the Cyanogen boot screen for the last 10-15 minutes with no end in sight. The capactive buttons have also been on the entire time, which is odd.

So I'm wondering what I should do. Is it safe to pull the battery and try to reboot it again? Should I let it go and see what happens? Should I try turn it off with the power button and go into recovery, if possible? Something else, mayhaps?

Any help would be really, really appreciated. Thank you.
