Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/01/13)

Sirandroid, thanks for the info. I'm going to use google voice and groovip at home as well. So If 3.75 does not work out for me I can just revert back to my ZV9 stock software that I will back up and it will be back to how I got the phone, right?

I just tried out G-Voice and GrooveIP today thanks to my buddy Lordvincent. I couldn't get over how easy it is to set up and use. :D

Spare Phone is good too, maybe better than Groove IP.

Then there's Talkatone and sipdroid/PBXes if you are comfortable with them having your GV password (I'd create a separate account for GV only for this purpose in case they do something crazy with your password some day, they would not get access to your main Google account). spidroid is interesting with Jelly Bean for example which seems to allow setting up SIP accounts straight from the native phone app.

So many choices for VOIP, not sure why we are still paying for minutes, we should only need a data plan. We may get just that from Google...

I haven't used it on my phone. I installed it on my tablet today and it worked flawlessly. ;)

I agree with you on the data plan too. According to my buddy, the paid version of GrooveIP can use 3g data plans for phone calls. It would make perfect sense to do away with the phone plan and just use data. The only problem with that on Boost is their 3g doesn't cover as much area as their regular phone signal. Using it with Verizon or AT&T is a different story as their data coverage is great.

Wow, we really got of topic there. Sorry about that Blood.

@ Sirandroid, we need start a thread next time we wanna start talking about stuff that really doesn't concern the ROM.

Hey I just got my very first smartphone that LG Marquee referb(was a Boost phone but they put tape over the Boost name on phone and phone is now full of Sprint bloatware) from Ting (Sprint virtual mobile provider) today and I want to install Sprint 3.75 CTMOD.

We share the exact the same circumstances. I have a TING phone too. So it says BOOST MOBILE under that piece of tape huh? I was wondering about that but did not want to peel it back for fear of it being something ugly or discolored. Could you post a pic of it?

I am running 3.75 CTMOD since yesterday. I shut my phone off stupidly and forgot to test the 40 hour bug.

3G BUG -
I have noticed my phone seems to flip between WiFi/3G/1x for some reason. Now, my LG Optimus S from TING has no troubles and before I tweaked this LG Marquee, stock out of the box it did not have these troubles.

Example -
I tried downloading a few apps from Google Play and the download speeds were 1x then would suddenly bump over to 3G or Wifi and either finish quickly or it would bump down to 1x again. A 6 MB file took 4 or 5 minutes to download even though I am 6 feet from my DD-WRT router.

Blue Tooth -
Worked fine for me. I only have an older Motorola H550 headset that does not require or use passwords...it just pairs and that is it. So I cannot comment further.

Other than the items above, I love CTMOD 3.75 and look forward to the final polish. I hope? lol

For me, this MOD is elegant, lightweight, fast, and best of all - SPRINTBLOAT (the nickname I gave the Sprint Bloat crap - could be said and thought of like a big, cumbersome SHRIMP BOAT :p) free!

BUT I really need my 3G and WIFI to work flawlessly, so I might downgrade and try 3.68 until 3.75's kinks are fixed.

androiddudenes, someone on Ting forum said it's actually a Boost phone so when I got the phone a few days a ago with black tape at the top I assumed it says "Boost" underneath. That sucks your having issues with CTMOD 3.75, when I activate my phone next week I'm going to have data turned off all the time and use wifi all the time at home for voice and SMS. Do you think I should download Sprint CTMOD 3.68? I have the stock software "ZV9" so do I just plug my phone in under mass storage into computer(Linux), download CTMOD and clockwormod to desktop, drag and drop both files to anywhere on the sdcard, disconnect phone from computer, find clockworkmod in apps screen and follow the rest of the authors instructions? Thanks for spelling it out for me, I'm new at this.

Im wondering if the freeze ups are related to our choice of governor. I have been running ondemandx/ sio for a long time. Im going to try ondemand/deadline for a couple days and see what happens.

any of you ting guys have a CWM backup or a zip of the stock rom that comes with your phone? if so can you upload it and post it.

It could be the governor causing it and that would explain why some people freeze and some don't.

anyone who has had 3.75 freeze on you, what governor were you using?

When I got my phone I was too excited to "brick" it so I didn't take a backup of the stock ROM :-) I suspect it's the stock Sprint ROM though because mine came with ZV9 and it asked me to update to ZVC right away, I said 'yes' as I didn't know any better and then had to fight it to get it downgraded so I can root and use custom ROMs. I doubt there's a custom Ting ZVC ROM out there, I think it's just the Sprint one. Are the MMS settings stored in the ROM or somewhere else or do they get set when you "update profile" in other words when you get provisioned?

Thanks! Please share it as I should probably keep a copy around too, just in case.

What files do you need, this is my back up before i've upgraded to ctmod (SPRINT)

So far, 3.75 seems very good to me. The 3G 'bug' seems to be the only prob I am having. Been busy as hell so I won't get a chance to play until this weekend but I am going to try wiping it clean and flashing again. Sometimes that works and helps iron out those little wrinkles that occur. I think your steps outlined above should work...just start fresh...backup first, factory reset, wipe cache and davlik cache, then reboot into recovery and go for it.

I did not get the chance to do a backup because my dear girlfriend was playing with my phone when I was in the shower and allowed it to update to ZVC !!!!!
I have not had the chance to let the phone go for 40 hours or more without a reboot. I had to do some tweaks and adjustments that required rebooting. I will post feedback here once I can let it go for 40 hours or more. Anything I can do to help, I will gladly do.

Just rooted and loaded CTMod 3.75 on my Ting Marquee. Everything seems to be running great. Even loaded the BT patch so I could send the swype app from my old phone. Can't think of anything that isn't working. 3G, BT, Wifi, all working great. Phone hasn't hiccupped yet. I'll let you know how it goes. If all goes well, I'll be moving 3 more family members over to Ting. Just gotta find a way to get them to bring over all 3 Boost Marquee's. Seems like they should let you, since they are selling refurbed boost Marquee's on their site.
