Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/01/13)

Downloading now. Will report back.

Report:

Flashed beta 2 kernel. Been about 4 hours. My crashes have decreased. Will report back.

Blood: does this kernel have VPN (TUN/TAP support)? I can't seem to connect my Marquee to my VPN, but other devices connect fine.

I might of removed the vpn app from the rom. Look in the removedapps.zip and see if its there.

Yep. There it be. Unfortunately, after reinstalling and restarting -- VPN still not connecting. I'll play around.

BTW -- the beta kernel is still going strong -- no crashes so far.

Hey all,

First to Bloodawn, thanks very much for the time and effort in creating this ROM.

I've been experiencing some MAJOR lag issues since rooting my LG Marquee, and I'm not sure exactly what is bogging it down. After restarting the phone, I usually can get a good 15-30 minutes of functionality before crushing lag starts to set in.

The lag is manifesting itself across the phone's entire functionality-- most notably in the camera, google maps, even unlocking the screen sometimes locks up the phone for 5-10 seconds. I have had to force close google maps on many occasions, and even full system lockups where my only option was to take out the battery.

Here's some info:

Build number CTMod 3.75 Final
Kernel version 2.6.35.14-HYPER-GB.v3 BD@SS #12
SW Version LS855ZVC
Baseband version LS855ZV9-M6600A-SCAUTSZ-3.0.40T

Downloaded software:
Boat Browser + License key

Google Play Services (*thanks again, Bloodawn, for your post in this link which helped me fix the problem preventing installation)

Although this is my second rooted phone (first was LG Optimus S) I'm really only an enthusiastic amateur, but I'm interested to delve a little deeper if you'd be willing to teach me.

Any suggestions as to why the crushing lags?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

I'd just reflash the rom and install all your apps through the play store, don't restore anything since thats how problems get started 90% of the time.

but if you don't want to do that, try booting into CWM, wipe cache then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache.

also, I wouldn't use link2sd or anything like it. this phone has 2 gigs of storage and moving anything to the sdcard makes whatever you moved run slower.

I was having the same issues. I just reinstalled the ROM with the new Beta Kernel then reinstalled all my apps. Much faster again and not crashing all the time.

OK, so thinking that a cache wipe would be an easy first step solution, that's what I did.

Booted into recovery through the Clockwork ROM Manager.

Wiped the cache, and in advanced wiped Dalvik cache.

CWM prompts confirmed that both were wiped.

However, I got a strange message under "Dalvik cache wiped" that says "back menu button disabled". So I attempt to reboot the phone, using volume up/down keys to scroll to "reboot system now" and press the magnifying glass button to confirm. What happens is that the top part of the screen, "CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.8" on down to the "power off" menu item, blinks for half a second. That's it. (The system command responses appearing in the bottom half of the screen, like "formatting /cache", "Dalvik Cache wiped", etc., remain unaffected and do not blink. The same "blink" happens when I use the back arrow button.

When I press the power button, the home button, or the menu button, the entire CWM menu (both top and bottom) disappear, and the "unboxing android" icon- which is usually ghosted in the background- brightens to full opacity and just sits there. Pressing the power, home or menu buttons bring the menu screen back. All other buttons do nothing. Long power button press does not appear to do anything either.

What's happened here? I'm too scared to remove the battery for fear of bricking the phone.

Thanks everyone

EDIT: alright, answering my own question. Cycling through the menu a few times just re-enabled the back button, fixing the problem. Oy.

One more newbie question.

Is CTMod somehow tied to Clockwork Mod, or would it work with the TWRP recovery?

Thanks

no, rom's don't have anything to do with recoveries.

and the marquee doesn't have a TWRP port or release that I know of, we just have CWM and CWM Touch.

OK, got it. Thanks again for the info. Phone seems to be operating with less glitches after the caches have been wiped. When I've had more time to play with it, I'll update here.

OK, here's the latest update.

The cache wiping had a limited benefit. The phone began lagging- not quite as bad as before, but significantly nonetheless.

I decided to take Bloodawn's advice and reinstall the rom.

After mistakenly trying to flash the Boost Mobile rom(!).... (thank you for dummyproofing the rom and preventing it from installing, Bloodawn....) I downloaded and reinstalled the correct final sprint rom.

So, as for the bumps in the road-- once again, in order for Youtube to run I had to download your modified Google Play Services file. Once installed, Youtube will run and play videos, but it still will not allow me access to my account. Not a major issue, but one that I'm still looking for resolution to.

As for Google Maps, I also received three error messages when attempting to log in to my google maps account. This was cleared up easily by tapping each of the three error messages that appeared and granting them access.

As far as the rest, so far so good.

Any advice on the Youtube login issue?

theres a way to get youtube fully working but it would require another factory wipe, which I'm sure you don't want to do again lol.

once I get version 4 of the kernel done I'll update the rom one last time to fix the gapps problem, include the new kernel and update apps to their newest versions.

I'm hoping the new ROM version won't require a full wipe, but instead a "dirty flash" would be OK. While I look forward to a fix, I don't look forward to redoing my phone again :) Or maybe we can just flash the new kernel if there are no other significant changes in the ROM?

OK, since these are known (minor) issues, I can certainly live with it until the release of the new ROM. Phone is operating much better with the ROM re-flash. Thanks again for all of your work in helping all of us Marquee rooters... with this phone, I'm delaying having to pay Sprint's $10 "premium data" fee for at least another 2 years :)

unfortunately fixing gapps in the rom so play services and youtube fully work would require a full wipe. but if your not worried about those you could just skip the new rom and flash the kernel when its done, then you won't have to redo everything.

There's isn't any problems with battery life. My marquee would get around 2 or 3 days off a charge with the stock battery and with heavy use I'd still get over 24 hours.

If you do have it drain quick it's either your app/settings setup or your battery is messed up.

I've been thru 2 phones and 2 new OEM batteries and still have the battery drain. I installed CPU spy and found that the phone isn't going to deep sleep.

Can anyone share how I determine what app or setting may be blocking deep sleep? Thanks in advance

Haha, thanks, I guess I wasn't specific enough! Should I go through USB w/ debugging mode enabled somehow, or can I use file explorer on the phone itself? I tried accessing that directory using file explorer, but it shows as "empty."

You will need to access it on your phone through a rooted file explorer such as Root Explorer. Not through the data cable via your pc. lol:p

I don't have any service in my sprint cell phone as I've switched to Verizon. Can I get some modification to CTmod so that I can use my cell phone as fast internet surfing only? I hope then it will be faster. Thanks.

Like WiFi only?

I am pretty sure any android will do that. For the Marquee just enable wifi and connect to your router.

If you want to use the 3/4g network your phone will have to be on their plan.
