Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/01/13)

Have folks on the updated ROM successfully streamed music over Bluetooth? Mine streams for about a minute or two, then stutters, then dies (and kills the phone with it). But this phone was underwater for a couple minutes about a year ago -- and for some reason I didn't really try to stream using it until Blood cam out with the updated ROM -- so I don't know what the cause is. It would help me out if someone can confrm that Bluetooth audio streaming is working fine on this ROM.

Thanks.

I reinstalled and tried it and I had the same results as you after about a minute thirty the phone crashes and dies. Maybe you could do a logcat.

If it helps any, I stream music via Google Play Music to my Blueooth headphones all the time.

Weird. I just tried my BT headpiece, and it doesn't work either. It did something weird that I (think I) remember from a previous incarnation of CTMod: the phone wouldn't dial when connected to BT -- but after I disconnected it, it dialed out the numbers I had hit while the BT was on.

Anyone else have this issue?

BTW: my previous WiFi issue was a result of a battery saving program (Easy Battery Saver) that was messing it, event though I had deselected the WiFi feature.

what steps do you take to stream music over BT? I don't have a BT headset so I've never done it and I don't see any options for it anywhere.

I noticed with my headset that if I have it connected to another device since last in "discoverable" mode, the Bluetooth doesn't connect on this phone, without removing it from the phone and then re-pairing it. Otherwise I get a force close error on the phone if I try to just connect it. Note that flashing your phone may count as "another device".

First you pair with the device: Settings>Bluetooth>Scan for Devices (after making device discoverable)>Pair with device. Once paired with a device that can stream audio -- including a BT receiver/speaker or a headset that does audio as well as phone -- you just open any music app and it should play out of the BT device.

Now that I tried the BT headset, and it failed, I know its either a setting issue (shouldn't be b/c I removed all battery saver type apps) or is new to the ROM versus 3.75. I did try to remove and repair all of the devices -- still stalls after a minute and then crashes.

Blood,

What I was talking about is streaming into the phone via 3G/WiFi, then having the audio sent out over the Bluetooth, rather than the built-in speakers or 3.5 jack.

I'm not sure if mbwd was streaming the music data into the phone or just using something stored on the SD card, but the Bluetooth part would be the same.

I suspect it is not a ROM problem. I had issues pairing LG Marquee to bluetooth headset even on the stock rom. I have to use manual pairing mode (see your bluetooth headset manual for instructions). The same headset pairs with other devices without any issue.

Does anyone have issues displaying chinese characters? There are missing characters either in the apps or in the browsers. How do I fix the problem? Thanks.

Right FezzikJr. I meant the BT is the same either way. I took the streaming out the equation just to limit the possible problems. But the same problem exists/occurs whether I'm streaming Pandora over WiFi/3G via BT or streaming the Music Player (no network connection necessary) via BT.

I don't think it's an issue with the ROM as I used it all day yesterday, in conjunction with Google Music while finishing demolition in my bathroom (LONG story for another forum) with absolutely no issues. Have you tried:
Turn off Bluetooth
Turn off headset
Turn off media app
Turn on Bluetooth
Clear any saved/paired devices
Turn headset on in discoverable mode
Pair to phone
Open/play media

That may be right. Still, the same BT phone headset that worked on 3.75 is causing the crash on 3.80. That doesn't mean its the ROM -- especially because there can be other apps causing the problem -- but right now I'm thinking it **might** be IF several other folks are having the same problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try that. Unfortunately, its still crashing. Sounds like its NOT the ROM though; it appears to be only me and one other guy having the problem. Oh well.

I also just noticed that it won't let me "clear" my prior Bluetooth devices. I can unpair, but they stay in my list. No way to get rid of them. Is there some way to flush the Bluetooth cache and/or reset Bluetooth altogether?

Agreed. I don't think that's a ROM issue but some sort of Bluetooth chipset/driver issue outside of our control. I did have the same issue with pairing in stock and ROM that I described earlier.

if you can get me a logcat of the force-close happening I'll look to see if theres anything I can do.

So how many Bluetooth apks do you folks have installed. Using Titanium Backup, I see the following:

1) Bluetooth Share 2.3.4 (apk called BluetoothOpp.apk)
2) Bluetooth Share 2.3.4 (apk called BluetoothPbap.apk)
3) Bluetooth Parings
4) BrcmBluetoothServices 1.0

Do folks have all four of these (first two are red in TB, which I believe indicates that they are system files).

Just trying to troubleshoot this.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot Blood. I can get the logcat, but can't find the force-close (its really more of a phone crash -- the phone just blanks and freezes, so I have to pull the battery). Is there a phrase/word I should search for in the log?

Here is a excerpt of the logcat that covers the bluetooth issue. Note, that time it didn't crash.

Here is an excerpt with the crash.

did you keep the Music.apk that comes with CT installed? or did you delete it.

You f*ckn rock Blood. That was it -- been playing BT for about 3 mins now with no problems and the logcat looks much cleaner (to my novice eye).

Stupid of me to remove it. Thanks man!

lol np. some phones require the stock Music app for BT to work right and on some the phone will chain reboot if you just enable BT and the app is missing.

I've been running CTMod now since Friday afternoon. I'm quite impressed. It seems to be very efficient on battery use. In fact I showed my wife this afternoon my battery percentage remaining after moderate use and she said she'd like me to install it on her phone.

The only thing is, she's in love with swype and I can't figure out how to load that from backup (either titanium backup or the nandroid) if anyone can tell me how to get swype installed on here, I think I'll root her phone and give her CTMod.

I also tried installing swift key on mine: not too sure she'd love it... but it is a potential substitute if I can't figure out how to install swype.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.
