Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/01/13)

Just a quick note to say thanks for the update! I previously was running one of the first versions of 3.75 (just too lazy to update), and it's running excellently since I updated last Thursday. No complaints, and the best rom I've used (marquee or my old phones) to date! Thanks Bloodawn!

I've been running CTMod now since Friday afternoon. I'm quite impressed. It seems to be very efficient on battery use. In fact I showed my wife this afternoon my battery percentage remaining after moderate use and she said she'd like me to install it on her phone.

The only thing is, she's in love with swype and I can't figure out how to load that from backup (either titanium backup or the nandroid) if anyone can tell me how to get swype installed on here, I think I'll root her phone and give her CTMod.

I also tried installing swift key on mine: not too sure she'd love it... but it is a potential substitute if I can't figure out how to install swype.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

did you check the removedapps.zip in the 2nd post? I don't remember if I put swype in there or not, or if it even worked with CT lol.

you can also try installing the beta swype: Swype | Text Input for Screens or Touchpal or Swiftkey.

Guess I didn't realize that zip file was there. I downloaded it and swype is indeed in there. However it says that the app was set up on a different device and will have limited functionality. (Basically it won't swype, can only be used for hunt & Peck typing)

Oh well, back to the drawing board. I guess it's either look into the beta thing you mentioned or see if she can deal with swiftkey.

Thanks for the quick response and I'll have to see what I can get to work.

I'll let you know if I can get her up and running on CTMod.

Swype works great on 3.80. I've been using it since the upgrade. Let me know if you need an apk of it, and I'll put it up on DropBox.

Yes, I'd love to see if I can get it to work. Let me know where I can find it, and I'll try to install it.

Probably tomorrow 'cause I'm going to bed now. But I'll definitely take you up on your offer!

Not sure about Swype but I use ShapeWriter. Did an apk backup with Astroa while back on my Samsung Moment that I've now used in multiple ROMs and multiple phones. I find it works better for more applications than what I experienced in Swype.

Either way, after you install a keyboard, make sure you enable it in the input/keyboard menu.

Other than that, I'm not really sure. Maybe one of the logat-fluent guys can help you out further.

Good luck!

Bloodawn, I flashed stock rooted ZVC rom from your another thread, updated for PRL and Profile. Still no luck. I will try it again tonight or tomorrow. Will update later.

try making a backup, flash stock zvc and update the prl, then restoring your backup.

if it doesn't work you'll have to manually fix it doing something like this: http://androidforums.com/marquee-all-things-root/677348-phone-did-prl-update-now-no-service.html

I reflashed the stock rom, fought with it a bit (it went into unending loop for a while but a factory reset cured it), downloaded PRL, then realized that redownloading the stock rom (kdz) wiped out my root. So I had to re-root, reinstall CWM, finally able to restore to a prior state, and when I did so the thing was so slow and laggy it was unusable. So I reinstalled CT 3.80, and I'm basically back to new install except.... I'm still roaming with 1x. Shit.

I guess I learned my lesson about playing around with PRLs. I had no idea they could explode in my face like this.

Tried everything except the manual fix. Still no luck. I called Sprint to transfer the service to my old phone. I need time to figure out how to do the manual fix.

Oh, one more thing. Where are the Notification ringtones stored? I'm missing a couple of my favorites for IM notifications, and having a hard time getting used to the one's that come available with CTMod. I'd like to copy over a few from either original or even Megatron that I liked better than what I have available on this ROM.

For that matter, where are phone call ring tones stored also?

Can I just copy them over? Or is there a big process to get a few moved over to this rom?

Thanks for the awesome work, Bloodawn! It took me a while to get my phone reverted to the old firmware and rooted so I could install CTMod, but I'm sure glad I did. Phone runs 1000x better than stock! Thank you!!

(P.S. - Small donation sent your way!)

My personal system sounds are all stored on my SD card under "media/audio" under separate subfolders for "alarms," "notifications" and "ringtones."

You should be able to just copy your audio files into any of the three folders and they'll then be available to use in the various sound settings.

OK. Well, I wrestled with this 1x roaming thing all weekend.

At one point, I even managed to deactivate my account completely, so even with a 1x roaming signal every call told me that I could not send or receive calls. I had to call Sprint customer service to get me back on the network, but they were unable to help with the the borked PRL. (Although the tech I worked with was patient, she ultimately concluded "we're doing tower upgrades in your area, so you will be without 3G service until Apr 9." My reply: "My wife's Optimus S is still connecting to 3G service." Her response: "Different phones receive network signals differently", which is the "I've spent too much time on the phone with you already" response.)

Well Bloodawn, ultimately what you suggested is what I needed to do-- I had to manually push a new PRL using PC software. The whole procedure seemed a bit intimidating, but I was encouraged by Wetbiker7's positive reports that he managed to make it work on his Marquee (thanks, wetbiker7!) and although the instructions are a little dense for a noob, I managed it (the steps are mostly but not entirely spelled out- you need some minor critical thinking/problem solving skills to work through it).

First of all, Sprint chat support provided me with my MSL code (phone programming code)- which was much quicker and easier than trying to figure it out using the logcat process, which I still never figured out. I just told the chat rep that I downloaded a corrupted PRL and I need my MSL code to force a new PRL. The whole process took two minutes. Easy.

Secondly, the strange series of links I followed (until I got to the page with the actual instructions) sent me to a page which first shows how to change my MSL code, and then only secondarily shows how to change the PRL. I was following the instructions for changing my MSL code before I realized I was barking up the wrong flagpole. I know it sounds obvious, but I can see how some noobs might follow directions blindly and then wind up with a totally borked phone because they can't remember what they changed their MSL code to.

Thirdly, the page instructs you to first dial some weird phone number... *983*87274#... which was totally unnecessary and I am still unsure why this is listed as part of the steps. (When I dialed the number while roaming, I got some strange Verizon message. When I dialed it after restoring Sprint service, I get a rapid busy tone).

Fourth, the instructions are specifically for some "ZTE" phone. It is not clear from the (multiple!!) referral links that got me to that page that I'm viewing instructions meant for another phone, and so when I'm using the software to attach to a com port, I was at first confused what to click on. Again, it's not a huge thing if you take the time to think about it and figure it out, but it's not immediately clear if you're going in relatively blind, like I was.

The rest of the directions were pretty straightforward. Once I pushed the new PRL and restarted the phone, suddenly those "upgraded towers" instantly repaired themselves and I had my 3G service back!

This is the direct link to the PRL fix for ZTE Warp phone (works also for LG Marquee if you click the Marquee link in the corresponding diagnostic Com port)

What an ordeal. I'm finally back to my old phone. No more futzing around with PRLs for me (unless I'm forced to!)

System/media/audio

Then either ringtones or notifications.

Try this. Let me know if it works. I believe the best way to install this particular apk is to use ROM Toolbox by jrummy. So if you don't already use that: 1) download from Play; 2) create a backup of some of the apps on your phone using ROM Toolbox; 3) use a File Explorer to navigate to this folder on your SD card: App Manager>Appbackups>user apps and put the linked apk there; and 4) open ROM Toolbox and "restore" the apk from the link above.

If that doesn't work, you can try to restore it from any apk installer, but I seem to remember that Swype wanted to use ROM Toolbox.

I got the file, but it doesn't seem to want to be able to install, still. I unzipped it, installed it, and then it says "install failed".

Back to the drawing board.

Are you saying that the system looks on your sdcard in those directories or that's just where you store them and then move them to the /system/media/audio directory when you set up a new rom?

If the system looks there (on the sdcard) is there anything you need to configure for it to look there, or does it automatically know to look there?

Thanks for clarification.

Never mind. I think I figured it out on my own. It seems to be automatically checking in both the /system/media/audio as well as the sdcard/media/audio directories, because putting them in there (the sdcard) magically made them appear in my ringtone list on the settings menues.

Thanks for the tip.

I have two questions:

I have copied music to my SD card and some songs cut off at some point. What's going on here?

The other question is regarding the icons for phone, music, etc. I love them! How do you get these icons? I remember vaguely being able to change these icons from current settings to default!!!

Thanks again for a wonderful ROM!!!

I may be wrong but I think the icons are from MIUI. If you want, try the MIUI launcher on the Play store.

As for your music, try making sure the files are not corrupt. You may want to try a different music player too. Just make sure that if you use a different music player that you DO NOT delete the stock music player. It will break bluetooth if you do. ;)

Hi guys I'm about to install the ROM. I understand the default rom doesn't have overclocking. I need to install and oc kernal for that. I always keep it at 1000/300 or went up to 1100 at time. Do I need the oc kernal to keep those settings? What does the phone normally use?

Pretty sure it's 1000/300. If you want to go with anything over 1000 you'll need the oc kernel. Also, if you use the Hyper toolbox that comes with the kernel, make sure that you use the oc settings. There is a setting in there for the stock kernel that only allows for clock speeds up to 1000MHz. The oc settings allow for clock speeds up to 1400MHz. ;)

The phone default is 1000/300, so if you want to overclock, you will need the oc kernel. You will not be able to go over 1000 without it.

hope this helps...

OK, one more thing. Bloodawn, I may need your advice on this after all.

As you know, I fixed my corrupt PRL (which, for the record, was #21095.) Using the free DFS software, I pushed PRL #25005 to the phone this past Sunday, and it worked like a charm

Well, some time today at the office, the phone slipped back down the 1x roaming hole. By itself.

At least now I know how to fix it. So when I got home, I plugged in the phone and "read" the PRL using the DFS software... lo and behold, it reverted back to 21095 all by itself!

And this time I didn't touch the manual PRL update at all. I know better. This happened without any human intervention, while my phone was sitting at my desk, plugged into the charger.

Now that I know how to fix the problem, it's easy enough to do. But I sure don't want to have to push a new prl every 2 days if I don't have to.

Is there any way to stop the rom for pulling the corrupt PRL by itself? I imagine this is what's happening to the other people who are experiencing the problem.

By the way, I just downloaded alogcat, thinking that if it happens again, I might be able to catch the log entry for it. Not sure if this will be of any help to you, but I'd be happy to send it on to you when it happens again.

Thanks Bloodawn (et al)

I am glad you posted this. At least I know I'm not crazy and it really did start changing the PRL all by itself.
