Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/01/13)

I had to do a battery pull today after 5 days of moderate usage. The phone froze like it used to do under the previous versions. I was using dolphin browser, and having and issue with closing an ad in the browser when the phone locked. I'm guessing it was the browser and not the rom, but thought you should know. If it happens again I'll let you know

An app shouldn't really be able to take down the entire phone, it should just force close if it has a problem.

Ok if that's the case then I guess it is the ROM. Though 5 days is still great, I used to get 1-2 days with the old versions. I'll let it run for a while longer and see what happens. What's the difference between a hot boot and a reboot?

If there's a bunch of stuff running in the background and you run out of ram it can freeze up the phone, just like it can freeze up a computer.

Isn't Android supposed to manage the memory and kick out apps that are not being used? I suppose always-on services could still leak memory or require a lot of memory.

it does, but it can still happen. you gotta remember the marquee only has 512mb of ram while newer phones are at 2 gigs now. phones are like computers, apps and the OS are going to keep requiring more and older phones are going to have a harder time.

Got it, thank you. I guess zRAM would not really help, if anything it might make matters worse if it reserves part of the RAM for swap.

Yes but you are trading actual RAM for (compressed) swap space. Is it a good tradeoff in practice? Is zRAM enabled by default in 3.80 (I have not yet tried the new build)?

zram - Gentoo Wiki

zram in my kernel is set to 98mb when its enabled.

and no, its off. any feature in HKToolbox I leave at the kernel's default setting so users can do whatever they want. I'm not going to force any of the settings on anyone. I do have my recommended settings for everything in the kernel thread tho.

There is always an issue I face with Zram never realizing but anyway, when I turn it on, it causes me YouTube lockups and music won't play, and when I turn it off, everything goes back to normal. So idk if its just my phone or zram itself. Just pointint out this problem I've had for a long time

Can I flash the kernel from 3.80 on an existing 3.75 setup? Wondering if it would be a good temporary solution to the lockups in 3.75 as I don't have the time to redo the entire setup right now to fully move to 3.80.

I believe it should. I am running it now on a basterdized version of stock that I deodexed. I don't know about the lockups though, but my understanding is that this can be used on all gingerbread-based roms (ctmod, megatron, stock, etc.)

Off curse, Those Kernels are for all GB ROMS, try it, you'll love it.

Hey, had a huge slowdown/lockup earlier today.

It got bad enough the phone put itself into safemode.

Maybe some apps I installed I have Go on there and I noticed it got a little slower and more battery consuming after that. Along with running the OC kernel but I believe it was just at 120 - 1000 ghz.

How do I do the log deal? I also had the two option settings, zram and the other on. Maybe that did it. Ugh I just had so many changes. I'll try and sort it out myself rather than dump it all on you.

Thanks again BD.

the phone itself cant put itself into safemode... but yea a logcat or reverting bak to stock settings :)

Actually the phone can go into safe mode upon a reboot. Had it happen to me. Idk exactly what causes it but I have had it happen ;)

since thats the only problem you've had in the 17 days of running it I wouldn't worry about it bro. sometimes weird shit can just happen with android and be a really rare or one time thing.

I'd just keep using your phone like normal and let me know if it happens again.

edit: forgot to answer your question about the log. if you really want to look into it, check /proc/last_kmsg. last_kmsg is a dump of the printk statements from the kernel before the operating system itself crashed.

Hi All,
I installed voice search from play store,
but it's crashing.

Do i need to install stock browser?
I currently have a Lightning.

Thanks.

I left it sitting on my desk as I didn't have time to fiddle with it. When I got back to it, it was in safe mode. I couldn't dial and the only menu I could access was the pull down menu.

I didn't reboot it, so I guess it can reboot itself.

I'll still tinker with it. I think it might be the battery app that came with Go or Go itself as this happened within a day or two of putting those on.
