Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

I am about to update my moms Prevail from CTMod 3.2 to the newest 3.68 and I had a question before I do. In order to install all of the apps she likes without getting low space warnings, I partitioned her SD with an ext4 partition and used Links2SD to link apps and their data to her SD partition. Now with the new version of CTMod I see it has something similar. My question is, can or should I still use Links2SD, or should I use the built in functionality? Also, to use the built in functionality, do I have to delete all of the current data on the ext4 partition, or just clean format/partition her SD again? She doesnt really have much on her SD, so that isnt an issue...just a few pictures. She just gets annoyed with the OTA Update notifications all the time, so I wanted to update it for her. I just want to make sure I am setting it up in the most efficient way possible.

Also, I use apps (phone, contacts, messenger, etc) from the black and yellow theme...will I still be able to use those apps? The rest of the theme I make from the Theme Kitchen...thats easy. I just want to be sure I can use the main yellow themed apps. My mom is a huge Steelers fan...so Black and Gold is a must have for her!!!

Not sure about the theme you are talking about but j6 has a really nice yellow theme that is black and yellow. And you can use l2sd still but I would just do a clean install of the apps using the builtin function. As got the pictures and stuff they should be fine as long sad the ext4 is big enough already I dont see a reason to partition again. If you have access to backing up the sd card I would and reformat everything then copy back but not necessary. Any data that she can't live without can probably be backed up with titanium but only use it to restore data not app.

EDIT: you can always make backup and try the theme if not then just restore. Same with going back to 3.2 there are ways of editing the build.prop so ota notification does not pop. If you need I can link it later.

What would I need to edit in the build.prop to stop the update notifications?

After installing that it will request superuser access just like titanium backup did when you first used it. Also it will create a backup copy of your current build.prop file. Now the only thing you need to change to stop notification is one line. Look for "ro.build.version.incremental=" and change that EJ06(what you currently have) to FA19(which is the name of the new update). This will stop the notification since your phone will think it already has the update. If you can not find this line you can create it from within the Buildprop editor app. Good luck and I hope this works for you.

Copied directly from another thread EJ06 may be different (EJ06, FA19, FE16, FF19)(oldest to newest GB updates) but that is the line and the newest update currently is FF19

EDIT: "After installing" is talking about installing an app to edit it. I always just use es note editor that comes with es file explorer but I am sure there are others that would work as long as you have root access.

like blood said on 3.68 you will not get any notifications. now on any other you can go into system and make it so you won't get any either, tricking it is ok for now but when a new one comes out you will just get it and have to trick it again.

It will work on any gingerbread baseband.

That's good to hear :) I'll stick with FF16 though since it comes with CWM. Current rooted one doesn't seem to have it. (Though I'm sure it can be added.. I'm just a bit lazy lol)

Quick couple of questions, nothing major but asking just in case it can be changed manually. If it can't be done then it's not a huge deal.

I'm willing to make the modifications myself, just need to know where and how.

1) Is there anyway to change the progress bar animation/color? Right now the alternating rainbow colors is a bit much. Enough so that looking at it may cause some sort of epileptic seizure. If it can be toned down or at least changed to one color that would be cool. I can edit the files myself just need to know how.

2) Is there anyways to add alternating colors to the standard SMS clien that comes with the rom? Right now it's just completely black and (at least for me) it's sometimes hard to see certain things when everything is black. Is there anyway to add alternating colors with the transparency? It doesn't have to be something major. Maybe a light grey or something. Enough to distinguish between the texts. Right now the only way I can tell is by the portrait and not all my contacts have pictures. So it can get a bit confusing.

3) I remember back in the day there being some sort of double tap the screen to unlock during a phone call. Is there anyway to reactive this manually? Sometimes my cheeck presses buttons on the screen. I know I can press the lock button, but that's just one extra step each time I make a call. Maybe a manual edit in a file somewhere? If not.. it's not a huge deal.

4) I don't think this one is possible since I can't seem to find the setting anywhere but i'll ask anyways. On the launcher is there anyway to add a black blackground to the docked icons at the bottom? I know zeam launcher does this but not sure about Xperia. I usually like having it to distinguish between the home screen icons and the docked icons at the bottom.

I think that's it :) If I think of anymore I'll ask. Thanks for the help!

Quick question. My wife has the Straight Talk "Optimus Black" which is the CDMA version of the GSM phone since it runs on Sprint towers. From the information that I have been able to uncover, it would appear the phone uses an LS855 core but is labeled with the generic "Optimus Black" notation. Has anybody attempted to load this rom onto a straight talk phone?

Would it be safe to assume that the Sprint version of the rom should load correctly? None of the Optimus Black roms work on this phone.

So this is my first time rooting a phone and I just rooted my prevail and put your ROM on it and I have noticed that my Wi-Fi is running very slow. Is there anything I can do to speed it back up to what it was or am I stuck with a slow internet.

1) the images for the progress bar are in framework-res.apk and the name starts with progressbar_indeterminate.

2) not unless you know how to edit xml's. the color for everything in Mms.apk is controlled by xml's and spread through a bunch of files.

3) nope. I think theres some apps on the market that can lock the screen in calls tho.

4) edit home_stage_bg.png in XperiaHome.apk

you know this is the prevail section right bro? not the marquee.

but anyway, if the partitions for your phone are the same as the marquee then CT for the marquee could work, but its partitioned like the gsm black then installing it could brick your phone.

installing a rom won't slow down wifi. try restarting your modem/router.

I must've clicked the wrong google link by accident. Thanks for the info though.

Hey guys, long time follower, first time poster. Have to give thanks to all that have continually supported and advanced our device!

Anyway, yesterday I finally broke down and rooted my prevail. Got tired of seeing the "low space" notification :D. I am currently running CTmod 3.68 on top of rooted FE16 baseband. After rooting, my phone was working great for about 24 hrs or so. Around 1am last night, I heard my phone do a notification beep that service was not avail. Figured, hey, maybe service just cut out for a bit. Hours have passed and still no service. I've tried rebooting the phone, even re-rooting and imaging starting the process over with no avail. Currently running boost prl 61009. Before root I would get 1 to 2 bars (-100dbm - -105dbm). Now I am at -120db with no service. Any ideas on how to get this back? Called Boost and they reported no outages in area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Update: Data is somehow working (can browse through Chrome), but cannot make or receive any phone calls.

(Just as a side note, I also get the low power theme on 3.68 at 10%)

You could always try a factory reset.

Or make a backup, Odin back to stock and see if it improves.

Thanks for the response Lordvincent. Tried Odin back to stock rooted with fe16. Still having same issue with service. Quick question, tried to restore backup of "original stock unrooted from factory" that I backed up with CWM with no avail. Copied the backup from computer to sd card. Here are the files. With Odin, how should I apply them?

.android_secure.vfat.tar
boot (disc image file)
cache.rfs.tar
nandroid.md5
recovery (disc image file)
system.rfs.tar

Thanks!

You don't use Odin

You select backup and restore>restore in cwm.

That backup is made for use with cwm

Edit- the files have to be in the 'clockworkmod/backup/' folder

You said data was working but were you by chance connected to wifi at the time? I have had several phones do that to me but usually after getting wet. I have not found a way to fix it yet without replacing phone or phone parts.

Update: Looks like I was chasing a ghost. Turned out to be a tower issue after all. My gf just got home and she has VM. Same problem I was having. Can't place a voice call but internet data is coming through, strange.

Lordvincent 90, thanks for the heads up on that. I copied the backup file directly from my pc to the sd root. That would explain the issue with my restore. Wizard59, had wifi turned off at the time. Thanks for input guys!

Okay guys, I've used an earlier version of CTMod for some time, and I like it a lot. However, I want to remove the faux Chrome browser and return to the stock one. Yes, I know the Maxathon-based one is pretty good, but I have at least one app I want to use that won't work with it.

I'm pretty sure I can follow the instructions to reinstall the stock app, but I'm less sure about how to remove the Chrome browser, largely because it doesn't offer an uninstall option and it seems to be in the system folder, and I'm loathe to tamper with it without being sure of what I'm doing.

Can someone give me a bit of guidance on how to proceed? Thanks!

install the new one. then use a file explorer and just go in to system and delete it, or use titanium to delete. i have 4 different ones and use them all at different times like for the same reason as you. if you just install another one, when going on internet, awidow will pop up with all you have in it, and you pick which one you want to use. like mine all 4 pop up and i just choose for what i'm doing or which one i need. so you can just use other one for that one thing and use chrome for everything else if you choose that route.

...I can't find the stock browser now. First, I tried the removed apps installer for CTMod, but it was not included in the zip. Next, I looked on the Play Store, and all I got was other browser apps. Is there another safe place from which I can download the stock browser.apk?
