Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

I got the bright idea to pull the browser.apk from my stock backup and use that in the apkinstaller file for removed apps. CWM installed it, but it doesn't work. It comes up with a "has stopped unexpectedly" window every time I start it.

[mumbles curses under breath]

So, any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

Take the Browser.apk out of CT 3.5 and use the apkinstaller
 
Gotta say a huge thanx to Blood, Kouma, and everyone that had a part in this awesome mod/rom. I am loving the performance boosts and smoothness of the mod. I just have a couple questions.

1: I've grown very comfortable with swype, and i did install it from the linked zip file. I have access to the swype settings in the phone settings but I don't know how to get swype to function with the keyboard installed in this mod. Is this possible? I do like the knew keyboard over stock android--hoping I can have my cake and eat it too ;)

2: Again huge thanx to Kouma. With that said, his logo and the stock samsung splash screen... is it possible to edit these during the boot process? I'm trying to fully match all parts of my phone to a theme.

3: on a side note (and i don't need this one answered), i've looked into changing the spc to try and get better service, but i can't really wade through everything to find which codes work best in which areas. If someone has some guide or advice on this I'd appreciate it.

I'm really appreciative of this forum community and am glad to bring fresh life to my aging prevail

I only can answer Part 1 :

Someone ( I believe "cwhatever" it was ), in another post said, to install the Swipe you need to install it as a "System app" !

You can do this with the APKInstaller.zip ( just put the swipe.apk into this .zip file in the \system\app folder )then place the APKInstaller.zip in the root of your sd-card and do a "Install ZIP from SD-Card" from within CWM Recovery !

Download this: ApkInstaller.zip

Or use Titanium Backup..... it has also an option to make an app a system app....

if you have the settings for it, it's already installed. Just go to any text box (where you would type the message) press and hold the box, select 'input method' and select Swype

it's part of the kernel, you would have to unpack the kernel to edit it. it's not a file you will find with file explorer, etc

i think you mean prl, if so, there is no 'set in stone' winner. Different ones work for different areas, some areas experience no benefit at all. You just have to try them until you find one that works for you, our find someone in you area that has found a good one.

Thanks Lv90 for your answers. I didn't realize that the stock android keyboard is the swype keyboard. I thought that swype was an "overlay" on top of the keyboard (on a side note, does anyone have any swype alternative suggestions?). I don't think i'll unpack and edit the kernel. I'm fine enough to keep promoting kouma for his awesome contributions to this community (and the logo is red, so win!). and yes i did mean prl. I was just wondering if there was a list somewhere that had prl's in a regional format (if that's even how they work) or if anyone knows a good prl for the southern Louisiana region? thanks again for the help

2) not unless you know how to edit xml's. the color for everything in Mms.apk is controlled by xml's and spread through a bunch of files.

3) nope. I think theres some apps on the market that can lock the screen in calls tho.

Um My issue with this is it does something to the speaker or sound. Like cuts it down in sort of way doesn't seem right. Doesn't go as loud as it should unless I am switching between windows or apps, then it turns up for s second.
 
Is this ROM discontinued at this point, or will there be future updates? No offense meant, just want to know its status. :)

I think this is its final release. Blooddawn moved on to the marquee and is doing work for other phones as well. This thing is about as solid as it's going to get.
 
so before rooting, I had instagram in my phone with my google play account.

After rooting and using that same account, when trying to install it from google play web (google play on phone won't show it) I get the following message: you haven't accessed the google play store on your device with this account. I am logged in my phone with that account, and in sync apparently. Any way to make it work?

WOW!! like i said, someone will come to your rescue. remember time zones, dinner, personal lifes, ect.... but posting this in every thread won't get results any quicker. we all here check all the threads all the time when we can. so please be patient and someone with the answer will come along and help. thx.
 
Ok so been looking through this entire post and have a couple questions. I think I saw this somewhere but can't seem to find it now so first question is how can I change the icons in the Experia launcher manually with ones I have on my PC?

Second is do I have to use CTMod 3.68 specific themes or can I use themes from other roms?

Love the mod/theme just want to personalize it a bit. Thanks for the hard work!

the first ? i do not know. the 2nd is yes need to use ones specific to the rom only, but you can make a backup and try stuff and if won't work just restore back to where left off. i tried an older theme( don't remember which one) and it worked fine. that is what is good about CWM backups, you can trial and error.
 
After using the CM9 Alpha ROM basically daily for the past few months, I decided to re-flash CTMod just for a new feel for my Prevail/Precedent.

Thank you for a nearly flawless rom. I forgot how great this phone can be.
 
Ok so back to my first question on changing the icons, could I just install an icon pack through the play store? Maybe make it a system app.
