Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

Is there a way i can update from 2.3 to 2.4 without having to reset to factory?

you don't have to factory reset but flashing the rom will still wipe all your data and settings

only thing you can really do to keep anything is back it up with titanium then restore after the flash

Is there anything I can do to be able to move apps ( yahoo, Iheartradio )and the rest of what I have back to my sd card? I had them on there before I went to 2.4 but now im only able to move 4 out of the x ammount of apps I have... what do I need to do? I love the rom and really dont want to change back.

If you stick with CTMod roms if you make backups in CWM before installing updated CTMod roms you can do an advanced restore - data it will be back to exactly the way it was before "updating"

Thanks for the update, Blood. Your ROM is best on the Net.

I mention this next part for posterity:

After installing the new ROM last night I had one frustrating problem, which I doubt was related to the ROM. After re-linking my Google account on the phone I could see all of my installed apps in the market and could download apps on the phone. However, if I attempted to download anything from the market via a browser on my workstation, the market kept reporting that I had no phones associated with my account and all of my installed (including paid for) apps were GONE. One oft-quoted "fix" was to edit the phone number on the Google account used for password recovery. THIS DOES NOT WORK. After a couple of hours, I finally discovered a "fix" that appeared to be an actual fix; however, I cannot confirm this will work for everyone and I am not certain this was the secret ingredient.

If you're having this problem and everything is set up correctly on your phone: Google account linked, can see and access previously-installed Market apps on the phone, etc., try this:

  • Do a full Google account sync from the phone.
  • Open a browser on a computer (not the phone) and browse to https://google.com/dashboard, log out (if necessary) and log in (use the same Google account you use on the phone).
  • Under the Android device you should now see your phone.
  • Go back to the market on the PC, log out and log back in.
  • Click the gear in the upper right and select My Market Account.
  • Click the Settings tab and you should see Samsung SPH-M820-BST

This appeared to correct my issue but YMMV.

blood, is startup and shutdown sounds disabled on ctmod? if not how to enable it?

Yes they're disabled. To activate them, go to phone settings>Sound settings>Screen lock sounds. Check the box for sounds. :)

EDIT: This tip is meant for sounds during locking and unlocking the screen only.
Not for powering on/off phone. i.e. rebooting.

startup sound is

/system/etc/poweron.snd

i take a slice of any mp3, make it a .wav with audacity, rename it poweron.snd and place it

i don't know if i've ever heard a shutdown sound on this phone so i don't know about that.

Sweet. Gonna download Odin and see if I can get USB to work. So far still no success. Check my frustrated post.

No luck with Odin. New USB cord also. Any more ideas other than tossin the phone out my 3 story window?
I was having this problem on a PC running Vista Home Premium. Tried it on an XP box and it worked. Got access to XP?

ive had the CTmod 2.4 for about a day now, and it runs super smooth and is a nice rom, the only oblem i noticed aside from the 2.3.5 gingerbraid is that my battery drains and dies REALLY fast now, i could go almost 2 days without charging before now im lucky im i get 9 hours of charge. any suggestions?

I actually had the opposite for me. Before running CTmod 2.3 and now 2.4 I would be lucky to get through my 8-10 hour day at work on one charge now I can go 2-4 days depending on use with no charge.

Check what apps you have installed and whats running maybe you have added or installed something new and that's the cause. CTmod is a minimalist rom and should improve battery life over stock GB.

I've had great success with my battery lasting longer now after 2.4. Usually it would only last 8-10 hours too. Now it will last around 12-16 hours depending on use also, which usually is texting all day and periodic phone calls.. And also of course Android Forums.

Anyone having issues with tts? Ive tried a few different data synthesis and I never get that little Mic icon.

After updating I have always just used the advance restore in Clockwork and restore my data partition backup. I haven't had any problems with this method but is it not suggested?

I was using 2.3 and it was working well with my battery. After installing 2.4 my battery started draining really fast. Any idea why? Should I recalibrate my battery or something? My brightness is almost all the way down. I don't use gps, bluetooh, wifi, etc. I do have my gmail syncing constantly since I get a lot of emails in a day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and another question, is the Facebook app a battery draining app? My refresh interval is 1 hour. And it syncs my contant, even tho the photos are no longer showing up.

text to speech is already installed on the rom. if you mean speech to text tho you gotta add these

VoiceDialer.apk
VoiceSearch.apk

If your not having any problems its alright. you'd probably want to clear your dalvik cache after restoring your data tho.

2.4 shouldn't drain any faster then 2.3

there are alot of things that can make the battery go down faster. some days signal just isn't good and it will drain your battery

I'm not sure on the Facebook app

The brightness option doesn't work in the pull down menu.

the brightness widget was removed back in 2.2
