Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

Bloodawn..

How do we install the new 2.5V? Will over write everything and set it back to your theme? Or will it just update it if we install as an up date?

each rom version flashes the same way. It will wipe all data/settings and any change you made other then prl

Thank you to Bloodawn for the new CTMod 2.5 update. I ran 2.5 today without any anomalies. The first thing I check is Bluetooth, it’s a must have for me as a driver. Thank you!:D

Just curious, if I'm starting from Gingerbread, should I partition my card first before installing the CTMod or will it not matter if I did it afterwards.?

May have answered it myself. I did the install starting from Gingerbread with no partition on my sd card, and after installing ctmod it was giving me an unknown error 102 or something like that, so starting all over again, I partitioned it in Gingerbread, then installed ctmod 2.4, then 2.5, then the new koumakernel1.2, and had no errors I had before.

The Removed Apps - I can't find any real detailed info about each of these, most of them I understand, but some of them I don't. I understand how to reinstall them, no problem there.

1) What is the difference between installing the EmailFix.zip in CWM and just moving Email.apk to system/app? - After installing the email fix, I tried to move the Email.apk afterwards and it only overwrote the one the SWM installed. So whats different?

2) Apologies if I should not post/ask this here, but for the whole list of removed apps, I need to know what each one is for, that way I can figure out what I want reinstalled again. I understand most of them, but there are a few I have no idea what they are for, I put them in bold:

Android_Boost-Hookt.apk
BooksPhone.apk
Camera.apk
Dun.apk
Email.apk
FactoryTest.apk

CTMod doesn't have anything to do with sdcard partitions and doesn't include any app to sd type stuff

so It doesn't matter if your card is partitioned or not

the reason you can't just add email.apk normally is cause it requires some other files, without them it will force close. the CWM zip adds everything it needs.

Android_Boost-Hookt.apk is Hookt

GenieWidget.apk is a news app

JobManager.apk is the stock task manager

VpnServices.apk is for Virtual private networks

the other bolded ones are nothing

ok got it thanks guys.
I now have CTMod 2.5/Koumakernel 1.2GB with a 2048 ext partition, and I'm real happy with the setup. Runs fine, it's fast, noticed no difference when I had around 50 apps installed last time compared to this time, a new fresh install.
Thanks for all the info and help.

Ok I flashed CTMod to my phone and it works fine, only problem I have is some texts from my gf I had locked in my rooted stock rom that I backed up I want to get back, I just dont know where they are saved in the backup, and I tryed to flash back to my stock rom to back up just the texts but it would not format the /system area, and when I tryed to restart the phone it would not start so I just reflashed my CTMod backup back to my phone and it works, I just want my texts back from my gf, and possibly the call logs that are backed up in my backup of my stock rom for my phone, Can anyone help me get these back? Btw good job on CTMod I like the dock area and the speed of it

get nandroid browser on the market.

it has the ability to browse through your backups on the sd card and pull individual things out.

Ok I have that and my stock backup is on my SDcard but what would it be in? I got

Stock backup files
android_secure.vfat.tar
boot.img
cache.rfs.tar
data.rfs.tar
recovery.img
system.rfs.tar

This is all the files in the folder for my stock backup. What one of these do I open and once open where would my texts be saved at?

I dont know where texts are stored my suggestion is system.

what optimus said :D also, pretty much every sms/mms app i have used (other than stock, which i have never really used, so i could be wrong) has an option to backup/restore your texts... (go sms and handcent both do, just to name a few)

texts are stored in /data

I just upgraded my phone from Shabby 09 to this new CTMOD 2.5. Everything went smooth. I'm I wondering if there was a way I could get different themes for the dock icons. I really enjoyed Shabbys icons nd font scheme. I wanted to know if I could do the same on this new ROM you made here. Great work btw! Without you guys this phone would be a P.O.S

I installed Nandroid Browser on my phone and it finds the backup but when I go in to select one it does the working symbol and it just keeps doing that it never loads anything or opens the next file or anything.

I know the thing works, I have used it on other phones but I was never able to try it on my prevail so I cant help there.

I'm doing something wrong. I backup 2.4 and everything with it to wherever CWM puts it, then I flash 2.5. After I flash 2.5, I run an advanced restore og Data with CWM and then I wipe Dalvik, again with CWM. Then I reboot. Phone boots up fine, but the apps are gone. I tried it a few times and the results are consistent. I can do a full restore back to 2.4, and that goes fine. What am I forgetting? :o

Also, Blood, does 2.5 stash the apps to SD without needing a utility like A2SD?

That sounds exactly right to me it is what I did to update to 2.5 and I retained all of my apps. The only thing missing was the theme. Try not wipeing Dalvik the first boot. Let it boot once then see if you have your apps after restoring data and then go back to CWM and wipe Dalvik.

nah, theres nothing included for moving apps to sd

did you try letting the phone boot up after flashing 2.5 then booting into cwm and doing your restore?

For what is worth, here is how I upgraded from 2.4 to 2.5:
1) Renamed the existing Titanium backup folder
2) Run a full backup (data+apps) using Titanium
3) Booted in recovery, wiped the data, dalvik, and then I applied 2.5
4) Rebooted, installed Titanium from the Market, and restored everything back
5) Rebooted and everything works great! So far, I only had to change a couple account sync settings

BTW, does this update fixes the bluetooth problems that some people reported for 2.4?

Nevertheless, thanks for CTmod!

Hey guys Ive been gone awhile dealing with life and family lol..

I just tried to go from 2.3 to 2.4 this is what i did below.

1) make a backup in CWM
2) flash 2.4
3) go to backup and restore>advanced restore
4) pick your backup and pick restore data

you want to wipe your dalvik cache after doing this tho

So after following that I tried to boot the phone up and its stuck on the Kouma Kernel screen

I tried to turn it off and on and it just goes back to that screen. I tried to hold power and Vol down and it goes back to that screen

any help is much appreciated!! Im searching the forums now for anything I can find, but hopefully I get some help as to what to do now.

shoulkd i pull the battery? I figure when I pull it and put it in to turn it on that it will do the same thing since I already turned it off and on and no changes happened

THANKS!!!

EDIT:

I forgot to add that I could not get the phone into CWM, but I just got there and Im running a restore of a previous backup. *keeps fingers crossed*

you were holding the wrong buttons for CWM. Its power + volume up

try just flashing the rom and letting it boot all the way up first then go restore your data backup and wipe dalvik and see if it works
