Root [ROM] GingerSteem Extreme II for the LG Esteem MS910

Hey PG, I decided to try this rom and see how she plays. I had Gingersteem 1.0 and my homeless kernel, installed rom manager, flashed recovery within (totally didn't notice it was in there before :) ), opened up rom manager, downloaded the rom, backup, wipe, flash. Then I noticed it was the original extreme, so I downloaded the zip from here, again erase and flash. This time from scratch I also noticed that on installing market apps it does indeed crash, probably system_server (I've made it purposely crash before as a test :D so i know what it looks like. Cuts off around the status bar, makes the rest black, then reboots). I tried to get into recovery with Vol+- and then power, I saw some sort of corrupted graphic, thought I was screwed for a minute lol, then plugged into usb, reboot recovery, and luckily that worked, restored backup.
Before I restored I noticed the baseband version ended with a B, not a C. Nothing actually pointed to using C source code. Just kind of strange, although it's just a string anyways and I did try to play by the rules on procedure.

What I would like to know though is if that's the correct combo to manually get into recovery in case I don't get to boot next time via usb and adb. Or is that some sort of bug in the rom manager's version of the recovery, or just possibly some sort of corruption? Usually i just do terminal commands to do that stuff so I didn't really pay attention :)

Hmm..maybe I'm doing something wrong? I seem to be having an issue with the ROM. I've installed in three times already and the same thing happens. :(

Once I install it, I get the issue with the phone rebooting after installing an app. No biggie. I fix that by going into recovery and doing a factory reset. Within 10 minutes of playing around with it and recovering all my apps and data, it just starts rebooting endlessly. It gets stuck on that new boot image PG installed. Anyone have any idea what may be going on?

And yes I followed the instructions. Wiped data, cache, dalvik cache.

After installation of the rom. You need to go back and do another data wipe, after that you should be able to install apps with no problems ;-)

try being on zvc first ;)

I'm on this on zvc. I'm getting reboots with out doing much just was scrolling on some pages then got a reboot. and when ever after doing some changes to cpu on romtoolbox. then setcpu i get a reboot. didn't do this on B version. now I'm thinking of going back to B. I'll stick around for now but not sure.

Will there be an update of this to add one the reboot and recovery options. and the extras on the buildprop tweaks ? for now there's only LCD Density and VM Heap???

So my LG Esteem is ZVC and has not been rooted...I've rooted an Ascend 2.2.2 with superoneclick before but still feel new to understanding what I am doing...I feel stupid even asking this but I guess to learn anything you have to ask the stupid questions...To do all this above did I need a root at ZVB or can all this be done to a stock phone with ZVC? Is the Mod something that can only be done to a phone that has been rooted or is this a work around? Your feedback will be very helpful in my education going forward...Thank you in advance.

i wasn't on c, i was on b... i cleared everything, then installed rom, then wiped as stated by other users... at first my location for weather and anything gps wasn't working and the time was off... i fixed the location by just constantly refreshing on the weather app (somehow that worked...) the time fixed itself somehow... i have no idea how...

everything works amazing! great fricken rom!

hey pg, was curious if you knew the answer here lol i tried following a guide to add reboot and recovery to gb roms and i noticed it requires editing android.policy which i thought is what contains the lockscreen.. and the stock esteem lockscreen does not have the needed files to edit.. so do i just skip it? lol or am i screwed and thats why you used aosp lockscreen for gse?

I installed from ZVB and all is well. what lock screen is that ? I like the plauge looking skull guy. THANK YOU PG
Its the stock metro one, all i did was change the default wallpaper.

"I tried too n it wouldnt load." -PG

Having performance Anxiety, can be a b*tch! Lmao. :D Sorry PG I Couldn't resit! lol, ;)

Well I'm back on ZVB. For no apparent reason i was getting random reboots not sure cuz of this them itself or C. Version but all i know it wasn't doing that on b. so I'll wait till LG fix the reboot problem for good, and when there's root for the new version I'll give it another go.

After I install the ROM I go back into recovery and clear data and DON'T reinstall the rom? Also do I clear both cache? Still can't get this to work and I don't consider myself anywhere near being a noob... lol just a little confused.

Once you installed the rom let the phone boot up as normal. Then go back to recovey and do another data wipe. And cache then reboot. Try installing an app. This was some fix find by some other dude here.

Don't remember his name but it worked for me when i was on this rom. ;)
