Root [ROM] GingerSteem Extreme II for the LG Esteem MS910

hey ppl im currently using CWM Recovervy v5.5.0.4 on my lg esteem at first i used the gingersteem express v.04 and the wifi wasnt working so i had downgraded to gingersteem v.02 and it all works good but i tried activating the phone on metro pcs and when i got to manual programing part on the phone to edit the cell #, MIN #, and the home SID #, by dialing " ##626* " in the dialer bringing me up to a screen to enter the service code which is " 587846 " but as i enter the last digit the process stops giving a force close window saying " the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. please try again " and then the only option is to force close it keeping me from accessing the phone manual programing menu needed to switch over my service.

so today i visited this thread again and i see v.05 was released so i downloaded it and tried it on my phone to see if it will fix my issue but the manual programing menu still force closes on me. can anyone confirm having this problem thanx.

wifi works on v.05 awesome

Confirming processes dying at random on all current versions of GSE II. My feeling is rom toolbox has something to do with it. I could be wrong however there is no reason to bake a free app into the rom.

EDIT:
Also reporting the custom status bar icons (wifi, connection strength, etc.) not showing correctly in all situations. Would rather not have them at all. My $0.02.

Does the new v.05 still look the same as it did. or does it have a new look and theme two it. if it still looks the same. then ill keep waiting till you release the kernel and just slap that in my 1.5gse rom which is working perfectly fine on zvc

U know, u could make your own flash file with PG's new kernel all right on your phone. Just extract a kernel.zip file, download gse-c.05, extract it. Now go to the place where u have gse extracted, go to system -> lib -> module and copy all the files in there. Now go to the extracted kernel.zip file and go to system-> lib -> module and paste all the files there to overwrite it. Then go back to the extracted kernel file and zip it, flash it, and enjoy.

link in OP updated for v.05, all should be good now ;)

Give it about 8min from the time I post this to finish uploading!! ;)

Thank You PG Much appreciate found that Donate Button in Rom Manager for you, wasn't much but wanted to let you know I said thanks and I know you must put alot of time into all this.

Ok...here is a step by step guide.

1) you are gonna want to download an app that can scale the size of the animation...i use absolute system i'm sure you can google it and find one online if you don't want to buy it. Scale it to the size that looks best to you.

2) download an app called root explorer i'm sure you can find it online too.

3) place your resized animation on your sd card where you can easily find it.

4) open root explorer and find it on your sd card and copy it.

5) press the menu button and choose bookmarks then root folder

6) open the system folder then the media folder and you will see bootanimation.zip

7) now look at the top of the screen and make sure that it says mount R/O which means that you have read/write access.

8) then press paste (finally lol) and it will ask you if you want to overwrite the original file. Press yes

9) reboot and watch an Android pissing on an apple lol

Sorry for the slow reply I'm pulling double over time and all i wanna do is go home drink a beer and sleep. Worked GREAT man thanks a lot, i took your "as for the sound, it is located in system/sounds/power and you MUST rename your replacement file to MetroPCS_PowerOn.mp3, then same thing just push it via adb." and just moved the sound file to the sounds main folder. works great without having random sounds shoot out of my pocket. Thanks again!

I couldn't get GPS, WiFi, or 4G network going when I installed earlier today. Thought u should know. Looking forward to updates...Also, if I want to donate how should I go about that?

installed .05 last night. seems a little quicker. maybe it is maybe its just me thinking it is but ether way i like it. havenet had a chance to test my battery on this rom too much but so far it seems good. thanks PG! but one thing i was wondering about in this version you said homeless setting was integrated but i cant find it. its not in the option for governer in setcpu. im assuming this is where it would be. any help would be great.

Well i confirm that it works. Jusy try it yourself. And if for whatever reason it doesn't work, u can reflash the rom, the original kernel, or your backup. Just allow it 2 mins max to boot up. If it bootloops, take out the battery and try it on last time.

The homeless setting is not a governor. Its some codes from kainaida's homeless kernel to improve battery.( hence why no matter what i do on this kernel, my battery drains. It doesn't like anything kanaida makes.. )

I am pretty sure that I screwed the pooch in my process, but maybe it is a redeemable issue. I finally decided to make the leap to GSE-C this morning. I did a nandroid backup, and have successfully installed CSE-C v1.5. I did a restore, and up came the boot animation, etc, from my previous GSE 1.5 (the version with the Driod boot animation). I never got a chance to see what changes were made because I ended up with a boot loop.

Back to recovery and no problems there, but I am curious about how I should go about reloading my data and apps without messing anything else up. Should I do an advance restore and just restore "data"? Or is there something I missed when I was doing my backup?

Thats how I do it.

Is there a way to extract the kernel from this rom and install just that kernel? from a .zip file like some of the other kernels that you have out ?
