Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

I was having the same problem with the Face unlock using the other Gapps, (face unlock cannot start) then I tried using symlinked-gapps-ics-20120429-signed and BSydz ROM now it work like a charm.
BSydz, thank you for the ROM

This rom works flawlessly so far. Thanks for the port BSydz.

It's literally been a year without a camera on my phone. I don't know if I'll even be able to remember that I can take pictures of things now - at least for a little while.

I haven't tried navigating yet but WOW!! Touch screen works perfectly and never misses a touch. I also installed all of my crap and it is still mostly lag free. The last version i would sometime count to three before things opened or responded. I would like to steal the code name "project butter" from jelly bean and apply it to this rom!! I used my friends triumph CM7 and it felt so slow compared to this rom. Great Job!!

Hey Bsyds, just a question, no rudeness or ETA's involved. Do you ever plan on making an AOKP ROM for this phone? You've done such a beautiful job here, and IMHO AOKP dominates the heck out of PAC, PA, and CM9.

Guys, Guys, Guys... the facelock issue is because of the intall-optional.sh in ver2 symlinked Gapps, as I already stated. I edited it to make more room in /system. And more than likely the errors with regular Gapps is the space issue and not having all needed files. I'm not too good with scripts yet, so this may take a minute. I got the script worked out to get everything in the right spot, but now for some reason the symlinks for /system/vendor are not being created. I think that the folders need to be created for the symlinks to be put there. But, if that were the case then how does Ver2 make the symlinks but after changing the install-optional.sh it won't make the symlnks. I'll get it all figured out, just give me a little while. More than likely Ver1 of the symlinked Gapps should work for now.

I think it may have to do with the optional script in the symlinked Gapps. We didn't have camera when I made them so the optional stuff never got tested. I'll look in to it.

My gapps version is 04-29-13
I don't know if I have an outdate/updated version, haven't checked. It's the Gapps for sure, with GNow+regular Gapps, I do get the face unlock. But with Symlinked I do not. I think it has to do with Gapps, I'm so sure it's actually scary. GNow is not the problem.
Guess we gotta put a warning label on the Symlinked gapps for now, saying that it will break the Face Unlock feature.
Also it's not tablet mode/phone mode, tried both. DPI isn't the issue either, tried that also.

I don't think it stems from Google Now, I used M7 with CM9 and Face Unlock was present, switched to lennyv4 and it was still there.

I've only used the symlinked Gapps with PA (and only used the regular with CM9); I don't think I've ever seen Face Unlock in my PA security settings. I assumed it was the Rom, but that's ruled out now of course.

I think Bsydz is on the right track, as always :)

Look on the bright side, at least you've got a ton of happy testers on your side!

Also, anyone notice how generally nice the staff of this site is?
I posted a carrier question in the Motorola Triumph all things root section, and I had it moved by a guide, they sent me a message in a very kind attitude telling me they moved it, and they gave me a link to it.
Compare it to another site, which I won't mention their name -Cough- XDA -Cough- where they would just bash you with negative comments.
Another time I changed my name from firecrotch666 to Lobster, since there's no way to do it on your edit page, I asked a mod, and he asked an admin to do it for me, they worked with me so smoothly and quickly, and they were very nice about it too!
Gosh I love this place. :D

I just have to say WOW, after testing the April 19th version I was planning to go back to MTDEV-CM7.
But the May 6th version is LOADS better and I'm going to keep it as my daily driver for a while.

I installed in the following manner:
1. Reboot to recovery (CWM 5.5.0.4)
2. Wipe system, cache, data, dalvik, sd-ext, battery
3. Install ROM (May 6 2013 version)
4. Install Gapps (no symlinks, no GNOW, JUST apps)
5. Reboot and setup apps and Google accounts.
6. Reboot to Recovery
7. Installed the BSydz-PA-Stock-CM9-Mode-Changer.zip (forgot to do at step 5)

It is very stable and usable, including the following tested items, tweak free:
It's been up for nearly 24 hours now without random crash/rebooting.
-Front and rear camera both work. PANORAMA also works: Skype crashes.
-Wi-Fi works: occasional disconnects, but reconnects fine.
-Battery life is decent: I got a day of average use out of it.
-Internal GPS works: installed fasterGPS and GPS Status for assist
Tested it with Google Maps and My Tracks and it is functional.
BUT locking sucks, to the point of being virtually unusable.
I've previously accepted that the Triumph is not a stable GPS device.
-Bluetooth works: External GPS works flawlessly with my paired Qstars 818XT
-Scrolling and selections are fairly smooth and fast, not quite perfect.
-I had GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G all on at the same time STABLE!
-Headphones work: tested with Pandora.
-Text is clear and legible: the garbled text problem seems to be gone.
-Phone works: LOL, had to test it.
-Proximity Sensor works: Auto-brightness works, in call dim works.
-Netflix works: I know people care.
-Swype works: They finally released it to the Appstore, WOOT!
-Virgin Mobile Minutes works: Check this app out, $25 is why we use Triumph.

Negatives?:
- Touch screen is not quite 100% responsive: still way better than last beta.
occasionally have to touch items two or three times to register.
- Default screen fonts are too small: install the Mode_Changer.
- Internal GPS sucks: Higher value to me than video recording.
- No Video Recording: it loads, just doesn't start when you click it.
- Face-Lock did not work: "Face Unlock couldn't start"
- Wi-Fi disconnected a couple times, once with Skype, once with Netflix.
- Skype failing: not sure if system or App related.

For me stability, phone, 3G/Wi-Fi, Camera are good enough for daily use.
touch performance, GPS and Video record would be the only things that could be readily improved to make this a no-brainer ROM. I say give it a go.

Bsydz: THANKS for this ROM, best new work I've seen in a year.

I noted that Verizon released official ICS 4.0.4 for the HTC Thunderbolt ADR6400L
... Is that where a lot of these recent Triumph ROM updates are getting pulled from?
Thanks for the detailed feedback.

I haven't even looked at the Thunderbolt, I did take some stuff from the Xperia Play ICS kernel though, since it is the same version as ours.

Maybe, I just haven't given it much thought. I started PA, just so I could get more familiar with ICS and try to start fresh, since our CM9 has had sooooo many hands in the jar.
Look on the bright side, at least you've got a ton of happy testers on your side!
Yes. A big THANKS for all the feedback

Yes. A big THANKS for all the feedback

Don't sweat it BSyds.
It'd be cool if we got AOKP, in fact I think we already had it but it hasn't been updated in so long.
I'd do anything to relive the AOKP experience, or at least have a newer version of Paranoid Android, this one's a bit old now. Either way, I love what you've done so far :)

Been using the May 6 build for a few days and I really like the overall performance! I still am noticing a touchscreen issue. I have to hit the icon a few times to get the app to start. But, I notice that if you push just a bit to the left of the icon, it seems to work better. Almost like the screen calibration is off. Is there a place in the settings to calibrate the touchscreen? I thought that option was available to us before, I could be wrong.

Thanks!!!

How is everybody getting face unlock? I can't see it in the settings. I get all the other options, but not face unlock.

Try switching Gapps, ver2 is causing the issue.

Thanks a billion. I hadn't checked that thread in ages...

EDIT:
Wi-fi hotspot still solid, but USB tethering is a no-go for me. Starts up and drops right out.

While testing I found that there is not enough space on /system for even the regular Gapps, by like a MB or two. Facelock would open but not work so I looked and there was 2 MB free on system and system/vendor/pittpatt was a couple MB less that what it should be. Pittpatt is were the facelock stuff is stored. CM9 is lighter than this ROM so regular Gapps shouldn't be an issue with that. I have fixed the syminked Gapps now, just find the link in the OP, or it just got bumped when I updated it, so it should be at the top of the forum for a minute.

Symlinked Gapps is now updated, I fixed the facelock issue. Details above and in the symlinked Gapps thread.

Pittpatt paddy wack give a dog a bone...

Thanks again for all your work Bsydz, gonna try and download and test it out before my lunch break is over

Long story short Facelock requires you to log in to an account, to even show up in lockscreen options.
Does anyone else find this a bit creepy of Google?
I wonder what they do with all those photos of your face when you unlock your phone.
I also find some features in Google Now a bit scary, useful but scary.
Such as, it knows when a package is coming to your home, it gives you an ETA on when you'll arrive home from say a friends house. It's just.. weird, anyone else agree?

I have and app I use, phone tester

It has a part for touchscreen testing.

I found this, and used it on my dev phone, dunno if it really did anything, but didn't seem to hurt.

[APP] Touch Screen Calibration App - [G-TABLET\ZPAD T2] - SlateDroid.com

Finally installed this last night.

Space Junk Lite freezes right after starting. It eventually gives me the not responding message, and I can kill it, but then if I try to run it again, it freezes again (obviously), but the only way out is to pull the battery. (The app worked on CM7.)

A similar app, Satellite AR works, though phone movement tracking is very sluggish, but it often was sluggish on CM7 too.

Google Maps is working fine, and I used GPS navigation tonight, and it was fine. GPS lock speed was reasonable, though it's no Optimus V in that regard. I took some pictures too, so the camera seems fine. And I tested about 30 other assorted apps, which all worked fine.

I don't know if touch response is much better than CM7. I especially have issues with the back button, and also seem to have difficulty with in-app buttons if they are near the bottom of the screen.

Also, I miss the lighted soft buttons. But it mostly seems nicer than CM7.

Great job on the 6 May ROM!

I was wondering if anyone else was lacking voice on Navigation. Also I keep getting a message that Google Play has stopped working, but I can log onto the Play Store and download and update.

BSydz you are the MAN!The May 6th ROM is rocking out with it's well you know what out.I haven't had any random reboots at all.Skype video calling is working FLAWLESSLY.No disconnects from Wi-Fi as of yet.The jumbled text has only happened once when I was in file manager trying to move files. And speaking of that file manager likes to keep freezing when I'm transferring multiple pics from one folder to another. And I've only gotten 1 force close message and that was on GAPPS when I first booted up the phone.Otherwise everything else has been silky smooth.Touchscreen is really good tho at times it doesn't want to work if I don't flip my phone to the side.I've only had that issue using KIK messenger.ooVoo works great.Words with friends works smooth.Like I said this ROM is rocking. Thanks again BSydz! And when I get some more money in the kitty I'll drop you some more coffee cash.

This Rom is still super fast and great but i am having trouble getting the auto brightness to work in the sun. When I go outside I can't see anything.
