Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

Trying wipe and re-ROM now. I've done the factory reset, formatted cache, and cleared dalvik.

ETA: I think the Play problem was also IOHS. During the initial setup, I had skipped setting up with my Google account, then done so after some other activity (I didn't want it to start downloading all my apps, as I've had happen to me with other ROMs). I recommend against skipping over that step when it shows up in the setup sequence. Just do it when it comes up, it doesn't start downloading everything. :)

So is everything working that you were having problems with?If you got anymore issues please let the community know as that 1 we can help and 2 so it can be noted as something that may need to be fixed.

Sorry to say, I'm giving up and heading for CM9. I've spent too long battling with only about half my attempts at touch input actually working. When I cannot install an app from Play Store because the website thinks it's already installed (with at least one complete wipe and re-ROM in between) and it's apparently physically impossible to get the Play Store app to accept touch input on the Accept button for permissions, some crucial functionality just isn't there for me. Rebooting doesn't help the touch input problem, either.

which app is it?I've been running the May 6th version with no touch screen issues. And you can always have it sent to your phone thru your computer.

Not if the website is adamant that the app is already installed on the phone, and the Play Store app I was using was in the Gapps I was using. I'd assumed it would update itself on connecting.

ETA: Besides, Play wasn't the only app with poor touch screen responsiveness. Even Gallery was having problems.

Well if you go to google play online you can look up Motorola WX435 and see if they have the list of the apps installed.Motorola WX435 is the PA ICS name for our phone. And like I said touch screen has been working no issue since day one so idk why it's acting up on your end.If you got it up and down you could have tried flipping it to see if it would work cause in the past with other ROMs I had to do that to get the screen to work again.

I'm on this ROM and it was working fine yesterday. Does anyone know a reason why mobile data would stop working today? Heidi's VM phone works fine on mobile data. Text and phone still seem to work for me, and so does WiFi, but mobile data isn't working today. The mobile data connection icon is present (but it doesn't seem to have any way of identifying 3G vs 1x). Are there any apps, or menu options I can use to see my mobile data status?

The only setting I think I changed recently is to set the MAX CPU to 1401 (which is what I used on CM7), but I didn't even set it to keep the setting on reboot, and I've rebooted a couple times, and confirmed the Max CPU is back at the 1024 default.

To diagnose, I would make a couple of nandroid backups and load another ROM. One that you know is good. Maybe even the same ROM, just remember to wipe. You don't even have to do the gapps as we are looking for just data

Yes, I will probably do that if it isn't magically working in the morning, or if nobody here comes up with any special ways to fix it before that.

I agree with the touch screen problems my back button was useless, but I seemed to fix it with some idc & init.d tweaks. Hopefully this can be looked into...

The back button issue is a hardware issue, as far as I can tell. It is the same on all ROMs and kernels. It even happens in recovery.

I have been doing some reading on touchscreen implementation and have reworked the touch drivers. I have put together 2 versions. Nothing has changed from 06MAY build except touch screen drivers.

BSydz_Pa-Touch2-kernel-CM9.zip

BSydz_Pa-Touch3-kernel-CM9.zip

I need detailed comparisons between touch1 kernel included in 06MAY ROM, touch2 kernel, and touch3 kernel. Please only provide relevant info pertaining to the touch screen please. This is not gonna break GPS or make your favorite app fc, only one thing has changed and that is touchscreen.

I did all this from my phone, I'll clean it up when I get on a PC.

What did you do to fix it?As BSydz stated the back button has been a pain in just about every ROM.To me that's not a major issue cause when I tilt the phone it works. And it's been a known issue for ages.

Guys, guys!
Hardware button workaround

Something you all should try out, is use the tablet status bar, the one that goes at the bottom. Not only does it give you more features, but if you enable hardware acceleration it has made an improvement on the bar. Now why would you?
Well, if you go into settings>system, and you enable soft keys, it combines them into the bar, so that you don't waste both top and bottom parts of the screen like you regularly would if you used the phone status bar. Why does this matter THIS much?
If you're having trouble with your back, home, or whatever key, it adds them on the screen. This way, you don't have to tap the actual hardware button 10000x times before it works.
Truly great work around, and doesn't eat up your screen estate. You will have to get use to typing with the bar at the bottom though, its very tricky. Sad part? The DPI you have to choose from is only "Phone UI" or "Tablet UI", any custom DPI will not work. I can confirm this.

You're welcome, in advance ;)

I did something that definitely helped the back button I'm trying to trace it back.....
I know this was one of them.

multi_touch_enabled=true
ro.product.max_num_touch=2

Touch 3 for me.... Nice job. I left the Evo & Galaxy to come back to your work and my Triumph. I never realized how good the color quality is on this Phone until I made the switch all the other phones looked washed out.

Now it gets really weird. The "no keyboard in text entry fields" is now even an issue in the CM7 I wound up reverting to to have a usable phone for today. It's also not consistent, in the sense that some apps behave correctly while others don't.

Well, if you go into settings>system, and you enable soft keys

I have been running the Apr 17 version and cannot find where to enable soft keys. Is this not in the 4/17 version? Anyway, here's a few observations on my experience with this.

First of all, I LOVE the new default interface. Sure, the icons & text are smaller but I don't mind at all. I do have some touchscreen issues but I've not gotten around to flashing the updated screen drivers. I'll probably be switching to the May 6 update when I have enough ambition to backup everything, install, restore apps, etc.

I have read a lot of complaints about GPS taking forever to lock in. I've used Maps and Navigation several times on this ROM and had no problems at all. Even driving down the Interstate at 70mph the GPS locks on within a minute or two. Perhaps of note is the fact that I've always had good luck with the GPS on my Triumph since Day 1. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who got a phone with a "good" GPS receiver.

I am running the "regular" (non-symlinked) 20120429 ICS Gapps. I have absolutely no use for GNow, so can anyone tell me what - if any - benefits I would gain from using the symlinked Gapps vs. the non-symlinked?

Finally, on my current ROM (4/17 build) the battery life is absolutely ATROCIOUS. Battery drain is as expected in standby mode, but when I am using data - be it 3G or Wi-Fi - the battery drains about twice as fast as when I was running MTDEV CM7. My battery is a 1400mAh Rayovac replacement from Batteries Plus and is only about 3 months old, so it should be in pretty good shape. Checking my Facebook & Twitter feeds and sending some text messages can easily drain my battery 30%-40% during a half hour lunch break. Can anyone tell me how the battery life is on the May 6 build?

Overall thoughts: I don't do much video recording so that's really a non-issue for me. Aside from the battery life and the occasional wonky touchscreen response, I am very, very pleased with this ROM. Everything else seems to work fairly well. As always, thanks for keeping the MT alive.

The keyboard problem still exists, after reverting to CM7, then trying another rebuild. No text entry field will bring up the keyboard at all once I'm past initial setup. So, I cannot sign into any apps that require an account login, cannot use typed search, cannot send texts, cannot use a web browser, etc.

Looks like a great ROM (although the post about battery life worries me), but it's at this point not usable for my needs. :(

Hey there! Just wanted to say this rom is AMAZING! I have the may 6 version installed and its super smooth and more responsive than the April version. It's perfect as my daily. It's great that you guys were able to get both cameras working even if its just for taking pictures! A great accomplishment! :) if I may ask though, can anyone help me on how to get the auto-brightness to work? I have it set for auto but the screen doesn't light up that bright in the sun. Is something wrong with the default values? Thanks in advance! :)

I don't see anywhere where anyone else has had this problem. So leads me to believe it's a user error with flashing, maybe a bad dl of the ROM,or the phone itself is causing the issue.

Repeated flashes haven't helped, and the keyboard finally got its act together for me with CM9, so I don't think it's a device issue at this stage (and yes, I do know how to flash a ROM).

Bad download is a possibility, granted.

.

System settings> system>navigation bar>soft keys
Then
System settings>system>combined bar>Enable hardware accel

Then configure the soft keys to match the same order the triumph has it's hard keys :D

If you don't wipe the phone correctly coming from CM7 to PA then the libs for the CM7 keyboard can still be there which will cause the libs for the keyboard for PA to not work. Now if you do the same for PA to CM9 then it's not going to affect it that much.Yes there will be issues if you don't wipe correctly but less if you are staying with same android version (2.3 to 2.3 or 4.0 to 4.0).When you change from like a 2.2 or 2.3 to a 4.0 you are making MAJOR changes.I'm just putting out there what I KNOW will cause the issue seeing NO ONE else has reported this.Keyboard works flawless on everything I use(Skype,KiK,Texting,Words with friends,ooVoo,GMail,TextNow,Facebook, and Maps all have working keyboard)

So doing a factory reset, formatting cache, and wiping Dalvik on EVERY attempt is not good enough? Would be nice if anyone had actually mentioned a need for unusual procedures on this install.
