Root [rom] miui4dx 1.8.19[updated 8/23/2011]

Well, I have always used LPP, but I was going to give the stock look of miui a test first and see how I like it. I can long press on any of the icons an drag them all over the current displayed screen, but I cannot get them to move to another screen...weird. In other roms, I would just long press and pull them over to the edge of the screen and then the phone would move over to the next screen, but no luck with miui. will continue testing it before throwing LPP on there.

Thanks!

i could have swore that this works on my test run of miui, are you grabbing the left edge of the app while moving it right and vice versa?

I'm not running this anymore, but I think you can long press the icon with a finger and then use another to swipe to different screens.

THIS!! Its a multi-touch launcher so long press the icon then swipe to the page with the other hand.

Yep, just finally figured this out.

You long press on the icon with one finger and then swipe the screen with another finger and that changes screens while keeping that icon active and then you can drop it where ever you want. Loving this rom, so many things you can customize and taking a while to figure it all out. :D

Still running 1.7.22 myself and so far this is a very sweet rom. Unbelievable at how much you can customize this thing. The only bug of issue I have had is I can't get my pop3 email to work. keeps saying incorrect username or password and those are correct.

Does the built in backup in miui create a backup similar to a nandroid backup with cwr? If you restore that, does it put you right back at that point with everything? Or do we still need to make a nandroid backup as well?

This is really my first time to use rom manager as well. From what I am reading rom manager allows you to basically switch between any release version of miui. Does it also allow for you to switch to Cyanogen and other 2 int roms?

I know...a lot of questions. But that is how people learn and get smarter, by asking questions.

Just to verify you aren't putting username@domain.com as the username right? And from what I saw the backup app does a great job. I restored one of them and it's like it was. Only advantage of a nandroid would be if you're coming from another ROM I guess since you already have to have the miui base before being able to restore.

With ROM manager Premium you can download ROMs and check for updates if your ROM has it setup with this in addition to the other stuff. The newest version of MIUI has a native updater app so that isn't necessary for those on the latest.

And you are exactly right about questions. Other people may want this info as well :D

Got the pop3 email working...right the opposite, now my isp requires the full email address as the username...forgot that. Good to hear the backup app works well. Guess I will start using it instead of doing a nandroid then. When I got this rom, I downloaded both rom manager free and purchased rom manager premium as well.

I have looked through all of the themes online in theme manager and do not see anything Star Wars related. Are there any Star Wars themes that will work with this rom?

I just flashed MIUI version 1.7.22. I installed Titanium Backup in order to restore my applications. When opening TB, an error message appeared which said that TB could not acquire root prvileges.

Here is the exact message:

---
Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work ! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again.
---

Can anyone offer any solutions to this problem that I am experiencing? Would greatly appreciate any help.

EDIT: Nevermind. I rebooted and TB works fine now.

I have 2 other issues/questions.

First is the icons. I did a factory reset and following a reboot, my homescreen/dock icons have changed. Most of them do not look like the iPhone icons when I first flashed MIUI. Is there a way to get those iPhone-ish icons back? Could I just apply certain themes that include those icons?

Secondly, I applied this zip immediately after flashing MIUI.

This was the name of the zip file: MIUI.us_Shadow_1.7.22.1_Framework43-signed

From what I understand, this zip fixes the market apps issue, correct? Does this zip also fix other issues, specifically the torch app? After flashing this zip, torch still does not work. I heard that you have to mount system before flashing the zip; is that correct? Is there a zip file that fixes only the torch app? Are there certain things that must be done, such as mounting/unmounting, before flashing the fix zip?

Check the theme manager and revert back to the "Default" theme. However, there are better themes out there if you want that "iPhone" look.

As for the zip file, I flashed it immediately after flashing 1.7.22. I did not mount the system at all. It fixes the market issue and the torch issue.

Perhaps its best for you to wipe data/cache and reinstall.

too many issues with MIUI, lots that I can't deal with anymore, I tried the new radio and the latest version....still loss of network mid-day. I am going to OMFGB until I see a major overhaul of this ROM specific to the DX.

Another question. I noticed that almost all of my ringtones and notifications are not appearing when choosing from the lists. Is there a certain folder in which I have to put ringtones & notifications in? I just browsed through my folders and spotted a file labeled "MIUI" with a subfolder labeled "Ringtones". Is that where I should be putting my ringtones in? And where should I be putting my notifications in?

When you get into settings>sound settings>ringtones and you select ringtones, then press the MENU key and that will give you a pop or OTHER then MUSIC, use that to browse for your audio files where ever you have them located.

Side note: I love this rom. Fast and you can customize everything. I am still running 1.7.22 right now. Anyone tried 1.8.19 yet? If so, what are your results?

In regards to icons, can you change the icon images (by means of third-party applications, etc., not through Theme Manager), on the stock launcher?

1.8.19 is a landmine....boom for my phone. I have had nothing but issues with it and cannot get back to 1.7.22. I am sick of MIUI after only two weeks of use, the camera quality seems worse even with the fix, and I want a 6MP shot for my desktop wallpaper on my PC.

Many other issues with it, including poor battery life. I am going back to 2.3.3 (.596) since .602 is a real pain to install.

I'll check back here until something more stable for the DX has been released, but until then, I'll just be on a standard GB root with BWC theme. Who knows, maybe that is the fit for me. I think it was and I should go back to that forever. I get a new phone in a year anyway...lol, like I can last that long w/o modding this thing.:p
