Root [rom] miui4dx 1.8.19[updated 8/23/2011]

.29 did this with me. The latest seems to work though. I don't think you can flash a backup of a previous build on the latest build either.

I have my SMS sound change from within the sms app. and i have 3 gmail accounts with 3 different sounds. they are changed within the gmail app not MIUI.

this is all I see... and I can't remove the drocap stuff from that app either...

Ok so I'm a partial noob but I'm efficient enough at following directions to have flashed all the liberty roms after 1.5 and am currently running apex rc2 without ever having an issue. Basically, I haven't been able to find a clear set of directions for flashing miui. Would the following be correct?:

Sbf to 340
Z4 root
D2 bootstrap
Wipe data, cache, dalvik
Install miui

I have never flashed a 2-init rom before and have read that I can't use bootstrap once I have. My question is do I have to install ROM manager from the market before I do any of this?

Thanks in advance!

That is the correct process.

No, you can install ROM manager after you do all of this, then just "flash recovery" at the top and choose DroidX (2nd-init). From MIUI if you want to get into recovery you have to boot to recovery from ROM manager. The reboot menu still isn't working properly last I checked.

your install method should work fine. just install rom manager after MIUI and flash droid x 2nd init CWR and use the boot to recovery from within rom manager to get to recovery from miui.

you don't need to do this, or install rom mgr (if you don't want to)
just install terminal
su
reboot recovery

no 2nd init flashing needed

but to take full advantage of the newer CWR you will need to flash 2nd init since miui is a 2nd init based rom.

what do you mean by full advantage? my CWR works just fine
i can backup and restore. wipe.. etc anything i want.. i've had no change in functionality

My updated 2nd init CWR runs much faster. it is also nice to run backups from within rom manager so you can name them before hand (lazy step). Also the MIUI updates show up in rom manager first most of the time so if you are an early bird like me its nice to get an update notification.

I had given up on rom manager since i did everything myself within recovery. But since flashing MIUI the little advantages are nice. Also nice to get the updated recovery flashes when they come out.

This dropping of data/connection is really starting to piss me off. I love this ROM and will probably never go to anything else, but this really needs to get fixed FAST.

I switched back to 1.7.22.1 after I started noticing this. Now I have a not so great battery life lol but at least I can enjoy the phone with a random airplane mode

I look forward to the next update that should fix that bug.

ok i was wondering if i was the only one experiencing this, i thought that my bill wasnt paid so called vzw to get the status on my bill (which was ok) so then i remember even if it was cut off i still have a signal, so i tried to place a call, says take it out of airplane mode... but no airplane mode is active, i can only figure out cutting the phone off and on is the only way to fix this issue, but problem is you never know when its going to pop its ugly head up.

but does anyone know why it just all of a sudden started happening?

It is a problem in the current 1.8.5 build. I have had it a few times, but it is so random like you said. I went 4 days with no issue and then twice again yesterday. I was thinking it was an issue of dropping coverage and it not coming back when you reenter a coverage area, but it happened to me at home yesterday, which I normally have 4 bars and 3 if coverage is bad. I know there was an issue with having a problem when dropping coverage getting it back, I think that was back on some of the CM7 releases.

Hopefully when the new build drops this will be fixed!

Welcome to one week ago. Lol.

trooper, this only started to happen to me yesterday when i awoke from my deep sleep :p

and kev it would be pretty awesome if he could get this rom working on the gb kernel for sure!

I had to move away from MIUI due to this connection issue. We've been at the beach all week and the signal here is marginal. Every day the phone would loose connection and not reconnect (at least that is my assumption). The only way to get it to reconnect is to reboot. The phone acts like it is in airplane mode, but you cannot turn it off or get out of that mode.

After missing a couple of important phone calls the first day or two, I switched to another ROM. While I never experienced this problem at home/work (I must have a strong signal and no chance or disconnecting there), I won't be returning until the issue is solved.

Thanks to everyone that helped me out and I was able to flash Miui without an issue. I love the rom and how easy it is to customize everything.

I've got one issue though. Under my google account it only has an option to sync mail, contacts, and calendar. It is missing the options for picasa web albums and more importantly music. Any fixes or ideas?? Thanks

go to settings, applications, wipe data, then enter into the program IE music (its the only way i can get it to work as well) and hit your menu button, the settings button will then appear, and go to settings and verify the email, then your account should begin syncing up

My biggest gripe is that the rom seems to have random bugs. Plug it in to charge overnight and the next morning its already on. I shut it down, plug in and it turns right back on.

not a glitch...the powered down charging is something Motorola adds to their phones that is not generally supported by Android
