Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM7 build 2013-03-03

Surely the answer must be somewhere already, that I just am not seeing, but I have a question.

I understand that when switching to a new ROM, it is necessary to do a factory wipe, install the ROM, and install all your apps and data over that.

For the first time, I am looking at installing a newer version of the same ROM I already am using, having installed the 20120819 version of this ROM not very long ago. Do I have to wipe my phone before I install, this, and restore all my apps and data afterward, or can I just flash this over my extant earlier version of the same ROM, and expect everything else to work?

You can try, but keep in mind that our phones seem to work more like Windows 9x. It shouldn't matter, but because of the way the system works off of cache, we can have problems.

If you do have problems, the first thing we will suggest is a clean reflash.
I build this thing like three times a week (more when I have major issues) and beleive me I know what it is to start over. I have forgotten what usernames I used, passwords, and lost settings.

On a good note, I get to ROM my wife's phone.:D

OK, remember that the thunderprop mod replaces the build.prop of our phone.
Basicly it just makes our phone show up as a Thunderbolt from HTC. I have yet to have someone repond weather or not this helps/hurts them.

I'm on one of the old CM7 builds, it was the most recent build of the g60/TG build. I'm debating whether or not to switch, what do you guys think?

Of course, tons of new features and more stability.

I had issues with WiFi/Data in 08/19 build as whenever I turn off WiFi and later when I turn on 3G, it wouldn't work unless I reboot it. 09/15 build solves this issue for me and looks very solid.

Thank you and all the other devs who put together this awesome ROM. In the last few hours of testing, I am very impressed and feels very stable and highly responsive. Thanks again.

I seem to have got away with it this time. I just flashed the newer version over the old, and it seems to have worked. My phone has been up for about seven hours now, and appears to be as stable as it has ever been. I am inclined to assume that if there was going to be a problem, I'd have seen it by now.

I wonder if I'll get away with the same result next time I try to install an update of this ROM.

Thank you. Also, the longer the test it ran the better. 3 hours doesn't show very much. I'd like to see something like over a week.

I'll try. That's a long time to not swap batteries or otherwise reboot :D

edit: and I think CPU spy is better suited to posting screen shots.

i switched back to stock to see what itd be like, and it seemed alot faster, like scrolling and all, just wondering what you guys think about this

Fyi to anyone with the same problem, I think I might have a fix for it.
Also I'm not sure if its directly related to this specific rom but I dont recall ever experienceing it with any others.

I've been having some serious issues when it comes to restoring sms from backups. Originally when I flashed this I encountered it & just yesterday when I DL'd the update it happened again. I will do a clean flash & sms restore, then I will get constant FC's from the stock app & 3rd party apps. I am under the impression it is from having backups with froyo base sms, CM7 & MIUI all mixed together in the same file. I've always used sms backup by riteshsahu.

After spending hours restoring & force closing I accidentally came across the "FIX PERMISSIONS" selection in APP EXTRACTOR by Handy Andy I believe. I read what it does & selected it although I was not restoring from that app directly. I exited & opened up the stock msg app & wallah, it worked. No lag no FC.

(Just so there is no confusion, I did try "permission managment" in the CM & setting & it didnt work, I'm not sure but they are probably two different things.)

IDK, just thought I'd put it out there for anyone having the same prob. Maybe it will work for you maybe it wont, I'm no pro & havent tried this process again, but Im pretty sure that was the reason it worked.

Oh yeah , one more thing. Is there a spot or a listing of a semi detailed breakdown of what all the different setting mean & do in these CM7 & CM9 roms?

There was a "fling" limiter put on the system. I think it's in the build.prop. That can help with smoothing out and giving more control to the long menus and stuff.

Does rebooting reset the data? I was going to test out some more settings for the installer script.

Yes, unfortunately.
And I blew it already.
Didn't realize how low my battery was and after a flash photo it went to the low battery shut down thing.

Dag nab it!. I have been running for a couple of days at least. Maybe some interim screenshots so that not all is lost. I just did mine. I do appreciate the help.

I would like more data points (hint hint everyone)

after going from MTDEV-CM7-20120909-test-1.zip to MTDEV-CM7-20120915.zip my data went completely in the whole. highest 176kbps down, 18kbps up; slowest 27kbps down, 12kbps up. im getting at the most 1 bar as well, was rarely 3.

i tried reflashing 3 times(w/ gapps and talk), cleared everything every time, same thing.

edit:
disregard. after flashing back to 20120909 had same issue, same in 20120810 too. must be the weather or something in the area.

I think it's Sprint's network, I've been having the same issues for about two weeks myself, regardless of which ROM I flash (I'm in NC by the way). I wrote to Virgin about it and only got a form letter saying "Sorry for the inconvenience."

Hi, I just installed this ROM yesterday, and it is fantastic. However, my GPS doesn't seem to be working. With my navigation app, I get the "searching for GPS" message indefinitely. Can someone help me with this??

Thanks!

I upgraded CWM to 6.0.1.2 and followed MTDEV's proper instructions on how to upgrade. I also flashed gapps before rebooting like normal.

I went from 8/19 build to 9/15 but it's been a little weird. Upon first boot, I wasn't brought to the regular Android setup screen as I expected - it just booted to the home screen. Also, my home and search softkeys are not working. Haptic feedback works on them but no action occurs on screen.

I did note that I received an error in CWM as posted in the other thread.

I'm going to try going back to 8/19 and see if it's back to normal. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Not up on the version numbers but make sure you are using a Triumph supported version of CWM,

Also if data was not wiped coming from 8/19 you would not see the setup screen.

It's a new version just posted in these Triumph forums. http://androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/617215-cwm-recovery-v6-0-1-2-triumph.html

Yep just tried reinstalling 8/19, same issues. It's the new version of CWM. Will roll back to the previous version (5.x.x.x?)

Wow I royally screwed up. I was using gapps for ICS, not GB! (Now you know what happens when you use the wrong one)

(Sorry for wasting your time guys)
