Root [ROM][PORT] Sharp ROM 2.2.2 for the Triumph (Updated: 12/16/12)

In my case, with wifi on but not connected, and with GPS on, I don't even get the 1x icon. I get the four grey bars with a cross on top.
I have tried every thing I can think of to replicate this and I never lose any signal beyond it dropping to 1x, I've tried at home and on my hour long drive to work and it never drops past 1x and most of the time it doesn't even drop to 1x. I am running a dirty install and just can't get it to kill any radios, even with bluetooth on. If I could replicate it I might be able to see what is happening. Sorry.

Hey-no need to apologize. It's not a big deal for me, and I can always shut off the wifi if need be. Thanks for looking into it.

So i wanted to update on my Camera FC isssue. I went to skype and camera worked. So then i downloaded some camera application from play store and its working just fine. So for me the original camera app was FC.... Weird but im so glad that i fixed it. This rom is almost perfect (only if it was as pretty as ICS...)

Was probly just a flash issue, I've seen other people have the same issue, or they'll have it with Google play or wifi or music

Sometimes it seems everynow and again things wont take 100% during flash like a PC failing to install something, then it knows what its supposed to do but it just can't lol

BSydz, it said on OP this rom has init.d support. however i dont see an init.d folder in the etc folder..am i suppose to make one?

Yes, you should just be able to create the folder. Since I had to modify the kernel, I just added support for init.d, and forgot to add the folder. I'll keep that in mind when I start over from scratch, possibly this weekend.

Would it be possible to add status bar toggles to the next release? I can download the one XDA made but it just doesn't work as well as a built in one.

I was wondering if there is a way to be able to overclock in this ROM? Thank you

It is pretty snappy and real fast working without overclocking. I am using my own spinoff - the sensified version. I'd put a link up but so far it's just for me cuz I haven't asked bsydz yet.

So, it's my second day of the Sharp Rom heavy run and I must say I am impressed.
First of all, I removed everything that I didn't need (including Launcher) from the ZIP bringing it down to 80mb. With Launcher removed I kind of lost all the widgets and Home Screen goodies, but I'm minimalist so I don't really care.

1) First things first - GPS lock in this ROM is fantastic ! I tested it inside, outside, in moving car, between tall buildings .. GPS locks 2-3 seconds in a good days, 5-7 seconds while I'm moving.
2) I constantly watch movies on my phone and that's the main reason I can't use CM7 or CM9. Both ROMs have video frame freezes, this is the only ROM besides stock that plays every format as it suppose to.
3) Camera app is better than stock with more options. No FC for me, the only thing I noticed is a very loud noise coming from the lenses for autofocus. It doesn't really bother me, and I don't really use camera a lot.
4) Headphones work, not very loud though, but I'm not sure if volume bug got fixed. I listen to the music and watch movies mainly in the subway and there no signal to get any notifications.
5) I Skyped yesterday over Wi-Fi and the phone froze when screen turned off. Again not a big deal. I had the same problem with CM7. I think what's happening is W-Fi turns off when screen is off and Skype freezes. It's easily fixed in Wi-Fi settings. I will test it again.
6) I didn't test MMS, Bluetooth calling, Bluetooth streaming, HDMI. That weird flicker when you turn screen on is still there - again, don't care. Battery life is good, but I try not to use anything running on the background.

Overall great ROM, and great job BSydz ! Thank you for bringing fresh breath to the phone that most of us thinking of dumping for Evo V :D
Definitely keeping it for a few more days for more testing.

p.s. Is there anyway to change 1x 3G icons on the status bar - they are really ugly :)
p.s.2 May I suggest to re-write the first post of the thread. It's really confusing with all the "edits" and "notes" what's working, what's not. Somewhere in the middle I lost count of the things to install first, second and last, mods, MMSs and etc.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be changing the OP soon, I wanted to have the info there because of the issues at first and different versions, but now that it is almost complete, I'll smooth it out. I just wanted as much info as I could put out there, so anybody who wanted to help could, but nobody seemed to have much interest in working on this ROM besides me. I just started getting in to the android system stuff a couple months ago, I was hoping for some help from some of our more experienced members, but most of them are working on gingerbread and ICS, but it's not a big deal. It's not like I asked anybody to help, so I'm not talking trash about any of the devs or anything like that, I'm just explaining. I plan on rebuilding from scratch this weekend and after I get a final version I will edit the OP.

I just posted a GB system theme that you can just flash and reboot, in the MOD section.

I played with this for a while yesterday. Pretty nice aside from a couple mostly minor annoyances:

- Tons of bloatware. Several language packs for a keyboard that doesn't even seem to be included, Sharp corporate name badge scanner(?), etc. I think I've finally burned through most of it, but it's hard to tell what's what because of some core app filename changes that only pull up Chinese search results on Google.

- The contacts apk looks to be very heavily integrated with Sina, which as far as I can tell is a Chinese Facebook. I love the new dialer, but the contacts app has got to go. Is it safe to replace it with the stock VMU apk, or is there a better option?

- References to "Wifi" in the settings menu have been replaced with "WLAN." Not a big deal, but this meant that I had to re-enter all of my saved hotspot data which normally syncs over my Google account. Again, not a big deal, as it seems to be a one-time thing.

I think I'll keep this for a while and I look forward to seeing what else you do with it! Thanks for your efforts. :)

Btw, bsydz,

You mind if I make available a customized version? All sensified?

Looks good man.

The only thing I ask, for anybody wanting to theme this, for now, is if it is just a system theme and not a full blown theme, is that you allow me to put it in the MOD section, and make it flashable like all the other MODs. You can just PM me the link. I will always give credit and link to your screen name. I just feel it would be better to keep all the Sharp stuff in one place til it is better recognized and completely finished. I know people want to customize their phones, but alot of Triumph stuff won't work on this ROM and it is very confusing which ones work and don't work for this ROM. Also, a little credit goes a long way. I am thinking of making a Sharp MOD thread, that will just be a collaboration of everybody's work on the Sharp ROM, in one place. I have gotten so many questions about Mobstergunz revision, and can't answer them because I don't know what all he did, so it has been hard for me to keep up. I released this beast and it is my responsibility to make sure everything is working right, and everybody who has a question, gets an answer, but that's just me. I hope you understand. Plus if you release a themed full ROM now, you'll have to redo it as soon as I get the kinks worked out and release hopefully the final release, and you'll have to deal with the install process. Just my thoughts, but you are welcome to theme this, and release it.

I released this for all you guys to use and do with what you like. I left the original releases just in case somebody with advanced skills wanted to look in to the bare almost unmodified system files, and maybe work some magic or get some ideas on how to make improvements. When I first released this, it was more reference material than a ROM.

Thanks to everybody for the feedback.

I wiped data and did a fresh install. I flashed ver 2, let it boot , then flashed ver 4. Now, when I turn on the GPS, with Wi-Fi on but not connected , I don't lose my radio signals. But now, I do not get a GPS lock any more. I have ticked the aGps option, but no gps lock even after 5 min.

For some reason since flashing the Gingerbread theme, my wallpapers have been in very low resolution. They're all blurry. :(

BSydz, can you please provide a technical rundown of how this ROM came about from Sharp? I mean, is it released in source or just binaries, etc? If the Sharp phone is just an Ideos X6 or whatever, does that mean that 2.3 roms for all those phones would work or we just got lucky on this?

I'm trying to get a handle on what can be done for this phone from using this latest development. If we can get something that works reasonably close to G60's last ROM, then I think that's something the community can rally around.

Thanks.

this..im very curios how u ported this great rom from the sharp phone...did u build it from source? what? im really curious..

From what I can find out the Sharp phone is a combo cdma/gsm variant which is great as the Triumph was the only cdma unit leaving it as a step child.

Through his bravery Bsydz flashed a gsm rom and RECOVERED it all on his own.

In this process he found and modded this rom, which makes our phones rock. The source is hard to find or non existent as it is sold only in China and Taiwan. He stated framework and other things are different also. Thus making some Triumph mods incompatible.

There is a GB rom but the differences and no documentation make its port a pipe dream without a guru to help. I can barely flash roms so no help from me but I will donate to this man who made our phone usable. All who use this rom should do the same if you can. I mean Motorola got two bills for barely functionality.

Donated!

I've been too busy to try getting MODs working on this. Give it some time, this is like working on a new phone. If you would like to try your hand there are some great threads on this forum. It's gonna be like when the phone just came out, the more people that use it the more MODs available. I try to put as much info as I can in my posts so if you have a question about this ROM or any X6 variant, it is probably some where in one of my threads as most of my threads have to do with the X6 variants and the Triumph.
I was wondering if there is a way to be able to overclock in this ROM? Thank you
I was thinking of trying to modify one of the more modified kernels to work with this ROM but again just not enough time in the day. I was trying to make an OC kernel but couldn't get it to overclock. But, I'm not a kernel guy.
For some reason since flashing the Gingerbread theme, my wallpapers have been in very low resolution. They're all blurry. :(
Mine are fine. Are you using a custom wallpaper? This is also my first time trying to theme anything, so I may have missed a few settings and stuff.

All of this info can be found in my posts, it is kinda scattered as people asked different questions but it is all there. The back story can be found in my Triumph experiment thread. The ROM is extracted from a nb0 file that I found on the internet after exhaustively trying to find any other release that I could find for the Sharp phone, because I basically tried everything to get the 2.3.5 ROM to work since I figured out how to get back from flashing an nb0. None of the other X6 variants have been able to get 2.3.5 to work with anything but the new kernel, and there is a divide between ROMs that use it and those that don't.
EDIT: I tried looking for a CM7 or anything along those lines as that would probably be easier to port to our phones. Anybody that can dig up some relevant info on ROMs for the Sharp phone are welcome to post it here, or start a new thread. Just try to make sure it is not a Sharp ROM on one of the X6 variants, or links to the 2.3.5 nb0.

Hope this answers your questions. Thanks again to everybody.

Thank you very much!

You basically covered it, none of the X6 variants have CDMA, except the Sharp, so they don't need it to read their partitions for CDMA stuff, cause the GSM data is on a SIM card. Also, most of the info available is for the Sharp ROM working on the GSM versions. There is not much on the actual Sharp phone running 2.3.5, it's all the other phones. I don't think anybody has the source for the Sharp ROMs, only person I could think that would have it is tj_style, but his work was for the other X6 variants. So I think he was just working from the Sharp nb0s. Plus many people have already asked him and there was no real clear answer about the source code, so I am only assuming he was working from the nb0s.

Thank you, you just made my decision to look at some used phones on ebay today, to use as a dev phone, a lil easier. People have been getting mad at me for missing calls and texts while I am flashing between test zips. Again, THANK YOU very much!

On Craigslist I saw one for 100 bucks (maybe a scam), I am thinking I might try that my self for the same reason. Well that and I don't know where to begin. :)

Yeah they have some with bad ESNs for around 50 bucks on ebay. All I need it to do is boot to download mode as a bare minimum. I saw a few for as low as 5 bucks, but not ended yet. I am fairly confident that I can get just about any issue taken care of as long as it is not hardware related. So I was just looking for a diamond in the rough earlier today. I have a lot of ideas about getting a gingerbread ROM working on our phones, but everything takes so long to just get something to boot, let alone find/fix any issue. I was actually starting to look into the WIP gingerbread data, but found the 2.2.2 nb0 and have been busy with this since. Thank you for everything.
