Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

The Mms.apk only affects the Mms.apk, nothing else. Mount the /system/app directory to R/W instead of R, copy the Mms.apk over to that directory to overwrite the existing one, reboot your phone into recovery, clear the dalvik cache, reboot the phone normally, and you're good to go. This process has been mentioned many times in the past, and is how you replace one /system/app with another properly. Any other issues you are having is likely something you're doing, or the result of an app gone rogue that you have installed. In which case, I suggest removing suspicious apps and following the steps on reporting an issue that are outlined in the OP of this thread. That should help.

If you have any questions after following those steps, please detail what you have and have not done, and what exactly is going on if it is an issue that can be replicated and not just a weird or random glitch. That determines if it is an issue with the ROM, a mistake you may be making, a fluke random glitch unrelated to anything, or an app gone rogue that you've installed (not one that came with the ROM). This is in place so that people, especially the developer of the very ROM you're on (me), can actually help you with the problem(s) you're experiencing. It seems like you're the only one experiencing these problems at the moment, which tells me from the total feedback that the current build of the ROM is indeed sound, solid, and stable in all directions (versus a problem that is repeatable for more than one person, and occurs not as a result of user error). Which then tells me that something else is going on, and I'd like to know exactly what the problem is so we can see if it can be fixed, if I can help you, or if someone else can. Also feel free to create a thread about the problem, that's much more helpful to keep everything on the forums more organized and localized topic-wise.

So please, follow those steps, and get back to us ASAP if you can't figure out what's going on. Help us, and myself, help you. And that goes for everyone.

I'll try to figure out how to start a new thread, it's not ur rom build cuz before I started messing with adding apps from 4shared and trying to put a different bout image in place of the other and backing stuff up there was no problems, it bearly reboots on its own until I started doing all that but I don't have a reboot issue the stock version do it too. Ima have to study on wut u said to do with the R/W stuff I think I tried that a week ago for the honeycomb boot image I might of did something wrong cuz it worked but then went back to the legacy boot image... can I send u the error list wut the phone says is wrong cuz it actually says no such file found in cwm

Just tell me what you're doing - already a lot of it sounds like stuff that wouldn't work or we'd need a dev or someone to do some extensive reading before expecting some of that to work, but I could be wrong - and I might be able to help you. As for error logs and codes, I leave that up to the guys who understand it (giantpune, ktb, I'm looking at you two at least).

Alright, I got one for you guys...

As of about 20 minutes ago my soft keys at the bottom lost all function.
The touch screen is acting finiky as well. I have to press on it with a bit of pressure to get it to respond. Or press it with my nail. Even then it acts up. No screen protector or case. And hands are clean. The other day the soft keys would randomly press themselves. Out of no where it would go back to home or open up quick search. Now Im not getting anything from them. Pulled the battery and reflashed the rom. Im stumped. And a little anxious. As a new phone is not in the budget. To say the least.

Any ideas?

Looks like the OV I have coming in the mail tomorrow that I purchased to do nothing but toy with is going to get some use after all.

Any moisture or condensation on the screen can cause that to happen

Hate to say it, but that's what was also happening on occasion to my very first OE even before rooting it. As in, before I learned anything of Android. That device is sadly dying, it seems. If you tell Virgin Mobile this, they should send you a replacement for free. It happened to my girlfriend, and she's on her second OE (since August) without problem, as well. She emailed VM, and got a free replacement. Me, I have a Geek Squad replacement plan through BestBuy, $20 for a year and I get a replacement at no additional charge (other than the $20) if anything's wrong with my OE. I recently had to use this, and didn't have to pay for a second one. I just bought the year's replacement plan again (another $20, since replacing it once meant the other was used up). And I understand about not being in a position to purchase a new one, I'm there myself :D

I was afraid of that. Gosh dang it. I would rather have no phone than deal with VMs out sourced customer service. Ill call them tomorrow. Thanks for the speedy reply, guys.

Soooooooooo.. any body need a parts phone?

I'm right there with you, but they didn't give my girlfriend much hassle (actually, none at all, she sent them one email, and they replied that they would sent a replacement). Actually, you could even try to restore it back to stock using the dll tools and such (which leaves it unrooted, if done by that method), and say that the device starting going funky after you tried installing the official firmware update, lol. But, a hardware malfunction/defect is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, so all should be well anyway. It took her three days and she had her replacement, hassle-free, so hopefully you'll have similar good treatment :)

I'd try giantpune :) Send him a PM to see if he could make use of it :)

Its official. The phones fubar. Those soft keys are not doing a single thing. Not even in CWM. I emailed VM. See if that does anything. I would be ecstatic if they just ship one out to me. That would be really awesome, actually. Then I can re live all the fun of rooting it! :D

And like I said, I stole a brand new OV off of ebay the other night for $21. So its not horrible. Looks like Im going back to CM7! At least until the OE situation gets resolved. Tis a shame. Despite its creepishly similar resemblance to.. (pardon my french) the iPhone, I kinda liked the ol' Elite. Time will tell, I guess.

Isn't Pune more of a software guy? I don't think he's going to rip a phone apart and solder it to his own to give it double ram and dual CPUs.....I could be wrong though, that guy probably has a Tesla time portal in his basement:D

of how to back up and restore, my internal memory is maxed out so I wiped data to start fresh b4 I did that I backed up user apps all that lights up in green in TiBu after I did that it looked like when I did it for the first time version two three nine If ur wondering why I'm spelling out numbers its because numbers are not showing up on here when I type then in.they use to work.any ways(Wi-Fi was working again till I restored my apps than it stopped again. f ur wondering why I'm spelling out numbers its because numbers are not showing up on here when I type then in.they use to work.any ways(Wi-Fi was working again till I restored my apps than it stopped again. Then I turn my phone on this morning and I look at the memory it says I have like the mb's in my internal memory something is wrong, than I got to look at the stats in TiBu and it pops up with a warning it says This devices Android I.d.has changed then it gives the new id and the previous then it says This normally happens after a device replacement or factory reset.the Android ID is the most common way for apps to identify the device.any app that relies on it for security/licensing purposes may stop working or need to be reconciled unless u restore previous Android ID now. Then it gives me #choices restore now ask later ignore. Wut do I do to fix my internal memory and the issue in TiBu about device ID?

Are you restoring large apps? A few games of 300-400mb will eat up most of the Elites 1gb for user data. Also when restoring apps (since your having issues) don't restore app data just the app itself, and don't restore system apps or data. If need be, download a fresh copy from the play store. I would suggest a full wipe and reinstall the latest Sleipnir. Wipe data, cache, davlik cache, and system. Then restore apps only, and see if you have any large games or apps. Also make sure whatever you can keep on the external SD cards is moved there. Like your pictures, media, and your titanium backups. Clearing app caches with a cleaning program like history eraser will help free memory too.

I don't know y this friggen piece of crap cant type a simple damn message. Ok this is wut I need to do HELP ME PLEASE START FROM SCRATCH I DON'T CARE ABOUT MY APPS I WANT TO TOTALLY RESET EVERYTHING AND INSTALL 2.3.9 I NEED MY INTERNAL MEMORY BACK IT SAYS I HAVE A FEW KB's

Download a fresh copy of Sleipnir, just in case it wass aa bad download. Boot to cwm. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache. Go to advanced, wipe davlik cache. Go to mounts and storage and format /system and format /data. Install sleipnir, then clear cache and davlik cache again. Boot the phone. Let it sit for 10 minutes while it creates file and moves stuff around. Reboot the phone and then enter your Google acount and set it up. I would then suggest re downloading your apps from the play store, but stick to well known apps and look at how big the apps are you are downloading. So you caan see how much room should be taken up in the internal space.

Ok thank u very much for ur help. I'm going to try now.one more thing what do I do about TiBu saying the device id has changed?

That normally pops up after a flash, I normally use the new one. After a quick Google, it seems split on people who restore or use the new one. It shouldnt make much difference.

I followed ur steps in recovery, after installing 2.3.9 I cleared cache and dalvic when I go to boot the. Phone it has abunch of no options and 1 option yes disable recovery flash. I chose yes It rebooted fine wifo works but I checked my memory its saying the internal only has 480mbs out of 1.9 so it didn't wipe the data frim there so I went back to recovery did all the steps again but when I get to the yes no optins for reboot I chose no and it rebooted but still same thing. It didn't clear my internal sd. What do I do to clear that?

I think the issue is something about the backed up data going to my internal sd and not ext sd card or something like that.

The CWM Menu and features have all been detailed clearly in the CWM FAQ-Guide, as well as how to backup to your internal or external sd card. Did you check that stickied thread? Also, CWM is not going to wipe your internal or external sd cards, that isn't a feature of it. It's called a manual cleanup, since you have to add things manually to the internal or external sd, so I would take a look with a file explorer and manage your storage space a little better if the space being taken up is a concern, or invest in a microSD external sd card, they have much larger capacity and are cheap.

I followed. The cwm guide when I first installed, I have a 16 gig chip. I'm going try to use total commander to move the data/apps to external sd. Thank u.

When u get a chance can u please take a look at my screenshots so u can c wut u see and I dint know hiw to move the data from my internal to ext sd Total commander
