Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

I have a ? About the new update sleipnir 2.3.9. can the mms messagin screen be changed to another color besides white?

It is still available in the thread by Hashtag about 2/3 of the way down the first page. I think Artine said something about it being old or broken, but I have used it a few times and didn't have any problems. It overwrites the custom sleipnir boot image, but that's no big deal IMO. Whether it has AOKP themes, I'm not sure. All I remember is GB, ICS, JB, and Tagged and Sleipnir. Enjoy!! :smokingsomb:

I use that elite theme chooser app after each Sleipner update, then I apply the ICS theme and that makes my status bar solid black each time...i haven't run into any problems using it with this ROM.

Whats different about 2.3.9 the "whats new" section in the op has been the same for the past few updates??? :dontknow:

Just take a look at the posts on the previous page. Everything's already been explained about v2.3.9 and the MMS.apk a number of times.

Just to let you know about my previous keyboard issue, Artine, involving the text entry in the native texting app. I do believe it has to do with the native messaging app or compatibility of it between certain keyboards or something, because I haven't had problems with entry anywhere else. Now I'm using handcent and with no issues.

That's what I was thinking it was, because that's how it was for me too even on the stock ROM :/ I'm glad it's not happening anywhere else, though, and thank you for the update :)

I stopped the dalvic and the sound is gone now thank u Artine,I actually wiped it in TiBu but it had no effect so I did it in cwm and that did the trick. I actually have su permission to another app store and that's how I downloaded the jelly bean keyboard I didn't place it anywhere just regular download. I have Swype but it's heavy on the mb's so I was hoping to lighten up the storage for the keyboard.

I'm glad that worked out for you :) I figured it had something to do with Dalvik. That pesky thing :p

Hi, Just updated to 2.3.9. Had some random reboot issues with 2.3.8. Hope the update will help with those.

Great work and glad to hear you are feeling better Artine! :)

I noticed reboot issues in 2.3.8 as well, but truly only when I used an additional CPU overclocking app like CPU Tuner or CPU Master. I know everyone likes to have fun tweaking frequencies but I found it clashes with the kernel quite a bit.

Since 2.3.9 I've not touched any app that changes my frequencies and battery life increase a ton along with overall ROM stability. So just a notice, if you happen to use a cpu tuning app, just remove it, theres no need.

Just in case you were using one lol. :D

I used to have random reboot issues starting when I was using Tagged. Like some others I traced it back to restoring apps from titanium backup after flashing the rom. Even just restoring the app without restoring data would sometimes cause the problem.

The only solution for me is to go back and reinstall everything from Google Play, or if I installed from a third party source I keep the apk in a folder on my sd card. Now I try to keep from wiping the data partition all together, that way I only have to replace any system apps I may need when flashing a rom, which lately has only been when updating Sleipnir.

I couldn't say if that's the only issue, but since then I only experience sudden reboots when an app is glitching out on me and even that happens so rarely I couldn't say when the last time it happened. All in all Sleipnir has been very stable for me.

It should :) And you're welcome :)

I wonder if that could also have been due to multiple profiles. I haven't had that problem with CPU Tuner that I know of, regarding random reboots or anything else, and that could be because I only have one profile, which tells it to run between 245 MHz and 1.6 GHz, from 100% to 0% battery life, and only using the smartassV2 governor. It never has to switch governors or profiles then :) Even on v2.3.9, I haven't stopped using CPU Tuner but haven't run into any problems :)

However, since I also wasn't having any reboot issues in v2.3.9, that's another reason it was released because v2.3.8 had that problem, whereas v2.3.9 does not.

EDIT: What were the graphical issues you expressed in your review? I would like to correct those, but I haven't run into these (that I know of, maybe I've overlooked them), or were they corrected at some point (unintentionally, but a good thing nonetheless)?

I'm glad it's been stable for you. However, a way to circumvent those app-restoring problems was found and has been included in the very installation instructions in the OP for Sleipnir itself. Wipe data, flash, reboot back into recovery, and restore /data from a Nandroid, reboot normally, and done :)

The graphical issues seemed to relate to overall lag when switching apps so nothing related to the ROM, I believe there were artifacts I noticed on the drop down for notifications at one point but I haven't noticed them since updating past the revision I had when writing the review.

I'll go ahead and correct everything and update my review in just a bit. :D

The wife is running 2.3.8 version the first few days it had a few random reboots but like any ROM give it time to settle, now no reboots.Just curious I know the battery sucks on this phone but how's the battery on 2.3.9?Any tweaks made? Thanks for any reply just trying to make things better for the wife battery wise.

With Sleipnir you can get up to 60 hours of battery life. That's better than can be said for most devices, and far superior to the phone's if-you're-lucky 18 hours of battery life when it first came out of the box. Anyway, the majority of improvements made in v2.3.9 were stability related, not battery related. v2.3.8 was having random reboots because it was, for whatever reason, unstable to a certain degree. This was corrected in v2.3.9, and as such, I guess, it has some battery improvements as it's not randomly rebooting :p

Also I highly recommend installing and configuring JuiceDfender, and following other battery life recommendations that are located in the original post of this very thread. All together, I only have to charge every other day or every two days. And unless you're using a GPS app (such as Maps or GPS Status), does GPS really have to be on all the time melting the battery? I wouldn't think so ;)

Yea I keep mine off unless I need to use it she does use juice but we both are on our phones a lot I don't need juice with mine but mine is a totally different phone :-) by the way great job on the ROMs you have put a lot of time into.

On a side note, and this is for everyone, turning the phone off to conserve battery life, if on Sleipnir and it's only for a short amount of time, will actually cause you to lose more battery juice than if it was just left on. I noticed that in battery tests where leaving it on for a few hours consumed the same amount of juice versus leaving it off for an hour and then turning it back on. Talk about efficiency.

While I agree that the GPS should be turned off as much as possible, I think it's worth noting that even if GPS is toggled on it isn't using any juice unless an app is actually using the GPS, because it isn't connecting to anything. Leaving GPS on does leave that connection at the discretion of any apps that decide they want to know your exact position, including any advertising apps or tracking software, i.e. google.

And if I may add putting it on airplane mode helps when not in use cause the phone isn't constantly searching for signal.

I find the battery life on the stock rooted rom much better (using the same settings) but the performance of Sleipnir more than makes up for it. If you want more time just do some of the things suggested.

On the stock rooted ROM, with GPS, Wifi, Data (3G), and Bluetooth off, not playing music, barely using the phone, and paired with JuiceDefender, and screen brightness as low as possible, you could maybe get 18 hours of battery life. That was the most I ever got, anyway. Now I'm getting two and a half days' worth with all that's been put into Sleipnir. And I'm using wifi and 3G, GPS on occasion, moderate use and occasionally heavy, and still only have to charge every other day or every two days. So how you would manage to get more than that on the Stock ROM, I don't know but I'm sure we'd all love to learn a thing or two if you can do it :D
