Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

I think the issue is something about the backed up data going to my internal sd and not ext sd card or something like that.

Cwm does have an option to format /sdcard, under mounts and storage. I'm not sure if it formats the internal or external. I would save whatever you need to to your external card, remove it frrom the phone, then boot to cwm and format /sdcard. That way it can't touch your external. It might wipe the internal cad then.

I don't ever post much on these forums, but definite credit to everyone that worked on this ROM it is by far the best, I had 2 questions first was whats the difference between 2.3.8 and 2.3.9? the only thing i noticed was the messaging app was all white, too bad we cant get the lil contact pictures and have it dark themed, it looked really good in 2.3.8. Also i've looked around but i couldnt find any site, is there a way to get stock apps back on the phone? i wanted the soundrecorder.apk but i couldnt find it anywhere

Well I gave VM a call today and told them the situation. Long story short, Im getting a white replacement within 3 days. So, Im happy. I look forward to re rooting and everything. They asked for the one I have now back. It's going to be hard though considering about an hour ago the phone regained all functionality. Crazy.

The user app and system app configuration is done, it's bloat free and provides the most compatibility. Anything extra users can feel free to get for free from the Play Store, but everything 'extra' was removed. This means no one has anything they don't want, and can do anything they wish. And if they're looking for extras, they can download whichever they like, instead of including some and having other people have to deal with that because someone wants an extra in. So, all extras were removed. Now it's bone-stock, which was always the goal, for those reasons and more. Feel free to add in the soundrecorder manually or get one from the Play Store, of course :)

As for the rest of the changes, there were many reports of instability for v2.3.8, and as I said before releasing v2.3.9, there were miscellaneous changes made a few weeks back that I don't remember anymore (extremely ill for a week and a half will do that to you) for stability and performance and other things, so I released simply what I had on my phone at the time (which was stable). Since releasing v2.3.9, there haven't been any reports of instability, which is accurate to what I was experiencing (stability) for the couple of weeks I had the build on my device. v2.4.0 should be the final build, or one of the final builds. Now that I'm out of the hospital, I can resume dev work. So, if you're looking for a definite change from v2.3.8 to v2.3.9; it's stable :)

I'm glad to hear they're giving you a speedy replacement :) They asked my girlfriend to mail them her other OE as well, but they give you a wide deadline for doing so too (a few weeks). Better safe and having a reliable device than one that's finicky, I'd say :) But I would definitely return it back to stock with the dll and official tools, that way it's fully unrooted as well :P

ok thank u not going to mess wit that anymore. I'm gud I was able to extract TiBu backup I'm on 2.3.9 waiting for final version. Again thank u for all ur help totally couldn't done this without all ur (ANDROID DEVS AND MEMBERS)help.:)

Haven't flashed this Rom and I'm new to this phone, so plz correct me if I'm wrong.

If I backed everything up using tb, including system apps, and there was an app that I want in the Rom, but for some reason I couldn't find it in the store. Couldn't I just restore that backup (minus data of course) or would there be an issue?
Such as there being something removed from the stock Rom that was required for said app to run?

I wouldn't know what that'd be. Just wanted to play "what if" for second.

Quick note and question: Wi fi worked fine when I installed both 2.3.8 & 2.3.9 versions, but after installing my apps no wi fi has n e 1 heard of such weirdness? Again its not the Rom its something I installed. I know It's Not my games or launcher cuz I checked before I installed them.

To answer your question, yes :) However, if you want your apps and data to stick post-install, take note of the Installation instructions in the OP and read them carefully.

However, such a problem is no longer possible/has not come up as those kinks have been worked out. The only exception to this is Activation, which you don't need to do unless you've changed your number or are experiencing unrelated-to-the-ROM issues like MacFett. If you've activated before, you're good to go. In the final build, the Activation part (which I somehow managed to overlook) will be fixed.

As noted in the installation instructions, you shouldn't have to format your data and lose your data and apps and have to reinstall them if you're just updating. As for the no wifi thing, I've only ever run into that on older builds if I tell busybox to overwrite/update the binaries. This issue no longer seems to come up for me.

Artine on the final version will u make the mms theme a lil darker please. Thanks for ur help with all the issues I had I was able to get a new boot animation going but I think I may have made some new or changed directories is they're any guide to go over to make sure all directories are correct?

You can verify with a Nandroid backup, otherwise no there isn't (never really been a need, since no one's done that that I know of). Anyway, yes, provided it works and sends MMS properly, the MMS.apk will return to the v2.3.8 version in the final build.

Artine how would I go about removing Holo Launcher and adding the default android launcher? I'm trying to strip the ROM a bit so I can add another launcher and toggle around with things. Any info would be appreciated. :)

It's already stripped to the bone, lol. Anyway, just replace Launcher2.apk in /system/app with your Launcher of choice, as long as it's renamed to Launcher2.apk :)

not to jinx myself (as I am always wont to do), but I have not had one single intermittent reboot since installing 2.3.9! Granted I didn't restore any apps, decided to start truly fresh.
sleipnir is officially the smoothest piece of technology I have laid my hands on in a while. thanks, artine.

now it's back to installing the cornucopia of rogue ninja apps we are all have in our android arsenal.
:sly:

Got my brand new white replacment today. Over night shipping! I wasnt expecting that. Had the thing rooted, running cwm and 2.3.9 all withing 20 minutes of activating it haha. I didnt realize how easy it got. Two apks and a zip. Went a lot smoother than the first time. Awesome.

Someone have the ability to upload the Elite Theme Chooser.Apk? Would love to try various AOPK themes out.
It is still available in the thread by Hashtag about 2/3 of the way down the first page. I think Artine said something about it being old or broken, but I have used it a few times and didn't have any problems. It overwrites the custom sleipnir boot image, but that's no big deal IMO. Whether it has AOKP themes, I'm not sure. All I remember is GB, ICS, JB, and Tagged and Sleipnir. Enjoy!! :smokingsomb:

Still trying to figure out how to do this

Check out the Hydra thread, as it details a ton on various development related things, changing themes is one of them. This is why it was made in the first place, to help teach people in plain English how to do some/a lot of this. If you want to do it, you can. The status bar now is actually how it should have been ever since Sleipnir was known as

Super wickedly slick looking Rom, Artine my friend, just downloaded it for the first time. I just have one thing to note. Seems the native messaging app was acting strange when trying to type things into it. Not sure if that's an issue with Swype beta or a reoccurring issue for others. Thanks man

I will be swapping the Messaging app to a past version, though right now it's from Stock and I have had that issue in the past with different keyboards (I don't use Swype, but the JellyBean Keyboard by VLLWP, and I have run into weird issues when trying to type into the stock messaging app with it too). However, if persistent for others, it could also be a ROM issue that should be remedied with an app swap (which is going to happen, so either way...) :) One way to test if it's the app or the keyboard, is to try the default/stock Android keyboard with it and see if the problem comes up.

Regardless, thank you for the feedback and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it :)

Good morning, last night. I downloaded a few apps the jellybean keyboard being one of them. It was force closing so I rebooted and to my surprise sound came out of the boot animation and my camera isn't silent any longer, anyone kno why something like that would occur? I uninstalled the keyboard and there is still sound.

I've only run into that issue in the past with the JellyBean Keyboard from VLLWP if you move it to /system/app. Making it a system app causes problems, keeping it a user app shouldn't give you any such hassle (never has for me except when I tried setting it as a System app). As for sound in the bootanimation, there is a PowerOn.mp3 file that will play unless you've set your phone to silent. Setting it to silent will mute or prevent any boot audio. Otherwise, you could always try clearing the cache and dalvik cache and see if that helps with anything, but the boot sound itself was never removed.
