Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

I think I mentioned this before but I was not able to make any changes to Hydra. I haven't tried in linux, just windows. It tells me "the archive is corrupt." I can make changes to Aeneas in windows.

Neither the ROM nor the all-in-one .zip files work, from neither DevHost nor SendSpace?

I have only tried the standalone rom and I don't remember where I downloaded it from. The same thing happens if I try to tinker with Sleipnir pre-install. Using windows 7 and winrar.

This probably has nothing to do with the ROM but does anyone know how to fix those twitter t.co links? Any time I click on a link it just opens up my browser and goes to the t.co link "web page not available" instead of the actual link. Tried different browsers and still no luck

i have the same problem and i don't use the twitter app. i just view twitter in my browser (it doesn't matter what browser i use, i've tried 4 or 5) and none of the links will open successfully....

i've tried wiping all my caches and even reinstalled opera (my main browser) and nothing seems to work.

i wonder if it's a twitter issue? i've read before where their t.co server has pooped the bed but it seems like it would have been fixed by now.

you can cut and paste a lot of links into a new tab but any link that starts with the actual t.co ip won't work even if you cut and paste it.

i can open the t.co links with any browser on my laptop... so i'm thinking it's mobile specific.

maybe i will download the twitter app and see if the links work there...

anyway... i'm sure there are more process of elimination steps i can take before i give up i just don't know what those are...

meanwhile... other links from other websites seem to work just fine...

is it possible the rom adblock is effecting it?

update:
i installed the twitter app and it's the same deal. any link automatically goes to a browser which can't complete the address...

anyone has any ideas that would be awesome... thanks!

Hey sorry I haven't updated on my situation in a bit. I cleared the caches and my phone still goes into airplane mode when it feels like. Since it seems I'm the only one posting the issue I'm guessing its a hardware based issue or bad download... I have noticed it likes to go into airplane mode when I try to use internet sometimes. Not a ROM breaking issue but slightly frustrating.

Hi Artine,

Well i tried once again to flash this rom on my OE W and once again it did the random reboots every other minute, but i didn't want to bug you about it so i did some trial and error.

So i wiped cache and dalvik cache and rebooted and still nothing :(

But.. then i realized, when i traded my old Optimus Elite for the white one that whenever i would flash GiantPunes kernal it would do constant reboots.

So i went into Rom Toolbox lite (Good App by the way) i went into the cpu tuner and lowerd it to 1024max and no more reboots! :)
so i was able to go up to 1209max but any higher and i would start to get the random reboots again.

But this rom is butter so smooth! I can't believe it not butter! lol
So i really don't even need to go to 1.6max

So I had wanted to get your "permisson" if i go do a YouTube video showing off the rom such.

If of course its ok with you.

Do you normally flash giantpune's kernel separately? Because there's no need with Sleipnir, it's already got it. The most up to date one, in fact :) The instability may be related to the governor, not just the speed, however. Try setting the governor to smartassV2, noop for I/O if you can set it, and max frequency to 1209 or higher to see if there's instability (I would leave it at the maximum that is stable for you, so if it's 1209 I would leave it at 1209 - smartassV2 knows that that's the max, and it will rarely use it unless it absolutely needs to).

And absolutely, feel free to make a video :) I appreciate the feedback, and you bringing that up with me, thank you :)

Firstly, I want to say "thank you" Artine for a great custom ROM. I thought it is very smooth and nice layout.

Secondly, I ran into "heating" problem. This is my first custom ROM on the OE so I followed the instruction and got it installed and running but after playing "Draw Free" for about 5 mins the device got much hotter. Can you help to explan and what needs to be done here?

Lastly, how do I check the CPU? I think it is preset at the max but not sure.

Thanks!

I can't speak for the heating issue but the cpu is indeed set at the maximum 1.6ghz if you wish to change it you can use cpu tuner as if recommended or something like no frills cpu control both of which are in the market. Also when you do setting the scheduler to noop is also recommended.

In addition to what kenharkey7 said, note that if the maximum CPU frequency is set to the maximum possible (16xx), the governor (smartassV2 by default) will only use that when necessary. Which is almost never, but it allows better performance if necessary. Also, as far as the heating issue is concerned, the OE can and will overheat with enough time on resource-intensive games, just like any computer would. Have never played Draw Free, I'm not sure how intensive it may be. However, if this is the case with other games/apps, like Angry Birds or whatever else, then it sounds like a hardware problem which is a hardware problem that others have run into in the past. If this is the case, Virgin Mobile (if you have them) will replace it without much, if any, hassle, because that's a hardware defect and is covered under a 1 year manufacturer's (LG?) warranty.

Well see Imma scaredy cat when it come to flashing roms, so i just flashed giantpune's kernal instead of flashing a whole rom.

Which on my old elite it the kernal was fine was at at 16xx max but not on my new one, until i lowered the frequency a bit.

But I finally switched to T-Mobile and upgraded to the LG Optimus L9 so thats when i decided to flash your rom on my elite, which the funny thing is that my elite is almost as fast as my L9 now lol

And when i make and upload the vid to YouTube the i'll post a link in this thread in case you wanna put it in the OP so people know what to expect with this AMAZING rom!

Lol. I used to be afraid of doing something to my phone too when it came to flashing, way early on :p That sounds like a hardware issue though. But yep, as was mentioned recently, this phone is a little powerhouse - full of surprises - but so few know about it because of poor marketing and poor release date.

I appreciate that, thank you :)

Thanks Kenharkey7. I have downloaded Rom Toolbox and will adjust the CPU to what you've mentioned but with lower CPU (12XX) to see how it is.

Thanks Artine. I will have to keep an eye out to see if it is indeed the hardware. I remember when I was not rooted it was fine when I play "Draw Free". It only got hotter after I rooted, installed this rom but with 16XX default setting and not "NOOP". Will report back if I run into the same thing again. Thanks for all of the hard of this ROM.

Your welcome. I actually keep mine around 14xx myself

I was going to mention this too, just because 1.6 is the max stable doesn't mean that all elites can run it without issue, dialing it back a bit hopefully will help, the general rule of thumb I've learned is to try about 2x under max stable which would be 14xx, also when flashing a new rom try to reboot at least twice before setting clock speed to let the rom "settle", this might be placebo but I've always had good results.

Yep. Nothing wrong with running it lower - giantpune does too, and s/he's the one who modified the kernel in the first place :p I myself can run 16xx just fine, but there are those who can't do it stably, in which case I do recommend running it at the maximum that is stable, not necessarily the max that is available :)

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks to Artine for this Rom. I was a bit reluctant to flash it, since I feel like I will eventually try to exchange this phone for one that is not so problematic with data issues, but I am really glad that I did. The Rom has really breathed some life into the phone.
The only issue I have encountered so far is that I cannot get the Gmail app to work. I've tried installing it from PlayStore and restoring it from Titanium Backup and it just force-closes when I try to run it. Any ideas?

I think you have to move it to system/app and reboot.

Try clearing data on the app, I noticed that Google services don't like to be restored with data. If that doesn't work, perhaps a clearing if cache and dalvik in cwm. I'm running this rom with gmail right now and it's fine as a user app.

Hey, thanks. I tried moving the app to /system/app and I tried clearing the data and cache.. I'm not sure what else to try except a new email app.

Did you set the correct permissions for gmail when you moved it? Did you reboot after it was moved?

Only other thing I could think of personally would be with to uninstall, wipe cache and dalvik then reinstall, or try removing your account info then add it again.

I agree, fix permissions with cwm after you move it to the system apps.

Or delete it from the system apps if it is there, then reboot, and install it normally from the play store.

Thanks for your assistance. What ended up working was to wipe data as well as completely remove the files from /system/app, and reinstall from the play store. Unfortunately, I was hoping to hang on to the older version as it seemed to run more smoothly and consume less memory. Thanks again.

By the way, is this rom themable by rom toolbox? The ICS and JB schemes are a bit flashy for my taste.

The boot animations and fonts I have tried and should work just fine, I am not too knowledgeable about this, we should wait for someone with a bit more know how to confirm or deny before you try anything.

As far as i'm aware however, and now looking at the app on my phone. Looks like these themes are intended for cyanogenmod theme chooser which we don't have just yet.

Hashtag's Theme Chooser works just fine on Sleipnir, IIRC. Only the Sleipnir theme is outdated on it - so reverting back using the app gives you the older version before I revised it just a couple of builds ago. As far as ROM ToolBox is concerned - I don't believe there has been a lot of testing as far as the GUI is concerned. However, I can confirm that you can change bootanimations and fonts just fine (unless an update is stopping it from functioning properly).
