So, flashed this to my phone. My first attempt to flash a rom.
Great work and thanks.
After flashing I restored my data. However, the background wall paper changed to the LG Wallpaper I was using. I didn't see how to change it back.
A few questions.
Does the 3G indicator change to 1X accordingly?
I'm curious why you left swype out?
Does restoring the data from my nandroid backup remove the apps that the rom included? It seemed that after I restored Juice Defender was no longer on the phone.
thanks.
As has been explained earlier in the thread, Swype was removed because it was unnecessary and also outdated. You can freely download the current Swype keyboard
from the Play Store (apparently no longer possible) that has been updated, if you wish to use it. There are better keyboards out there, though, but it all comes down to personally preference. Swype wasn't critical to the system, or compatibility, and was therefore removed, because Sleipnir is barebones. Which means you have none of what you don't want, and are free to install anything you like without being stuck with anything you don't.
If there is a way to change it back, I don't know how. But the wallpaper settings are in /data, hence why restoring /data reverted the wallpaper.
As far as I know, and was stated in other threads, while the icons may be correct for 3G and 1X, for some reason Android refuses to use the proper ones. This is the case for all ROMs for this phone, and IIRC for some other phones as well. No one is really sure why, and Android has a mind of its own (even LG has a note about this weirdness in one of the system files).
There are three apps included in /data for Sleipnir. JuiceDefender, Total Commander (which is currently, and likely will be for a long time, the best file explorer/manager for Android), and Flash. Flash is for compatibility, and is more or less unusable. However, yes, restoring /data likely will remove those apps. However, they are easily re-installable from the Play Store.
Also, I'm glad it works for you. Another advantage of the ROM is that the bugs found in the other top ROMs have been fixed, provided the bug was specific to the ROM. For example, the bugs specific to Tagged were fixed in Sleipnir. However, some bugs that are just a part of the phone in general, like a known Bluetooth bug, are not fixed. Most bugs for the phone have been fixed in this ROM, though.
Installed your rom. Very slick looking and fast. However I now only have 109 mb of ram free, when only 92 mb are in use. Where did 300 mb of ram go to? I formatted cache, data and dalvik cache before install. Reinstalled again just to make sure. Still only 109 mb of ram free. What went wrong? Any help?
Sounds like a memory leak to me. This would be caused by any other apps you've installed, provided you verified the MD5 sum and the build is correct for your carrier.
Should have mentioned I'm on Virgin Mobile. And rom version was 2401v. Hate to keep asking questions but also what is com.android.qualcomm? Patiently awaiting any assistance. And thanks ahead of time.
No worries. As Ken C mentioned, it has to do with the radio. All-things-Qualcomm have to do with the radio, IIRC.
So you are saying VM is screwing with our data before we have hit the monthly cap? That might explain the data lockups I have been getting even though everything reports a stable 3G connection. If true I find it completely BS I know our plans are cheap but that is only meant to happen if you go over the cap which I definitely have not been doing.
No. Not that I've noticed, anyway. Apps can and will silently use up data or send and receive data in the background to generate ads or perform other unnecessary and unwanted functions in the background. Angry Birds is one of these culprits. It's all in the apps, and while some/most don't, some do. Droid Wall prevents that if you choose for it to do so. Just take a look at what's running in the background to see the apps running without you firing them up. Maps is one such culprit.
And I agree with Leslie on this one. Apps running in the background without your permission, unless they are system-critical apps, have
no good reason to be running. Period. And therefore either manually force-stopping them or using a task manager is a good idea if you have any apps doing this (running in the background without your permission).
