Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

Hey where can I fins the bootanimation.zip in your ROM? When I install the ICS Theme from Hashtag's Theme Chooser, it deletes the boot animationci believe and now it has the same style hut instead pf sayin Sleipnir it has the basic Android one. I can't find the bootanimation anywhere in the rom .zip so where is it???

Yes that's the new Swype but it's not in the play store as you had previously stated

Also I didn't know that about activation, I thought you had to have the ssa apk installed for it to work

Last time I checked it was readily available in the Play Store. I've even installed the beta from there before. Though upon checking, it looks like it is indeed no longer available. Weird. My apologies. Anyway, as for activation, the SSA app may be required, but there are two reasons why I believe it's tied to the Settings.apk: Activation on Aeneas works fine, though it does not have an .apk file named SSA, and when activation crashes it says that it has to do with com.android.settings, which is the Settings.apk.

It's a legacy boot animation, which means there is no bootanimation.zip. The files are located in the framework-res.apk, under Assets -> Images. The shine slides behind the mask, and I have a transparent lettering for Sleipnir in the mask that I made in photoshop with the Android font, and the shine is a blue with an angled lightstreak, also done in photoshop, that slide behind to make it look like the text is more or less shiny. When there is no bootanimation.zip, Android falls back on those two files to make a bootanimation appear - which not only saves space, but is easier to load as well. Plus, it gives the developer a chance to put a more personal touch on their ROM.

When the theme chooser works its magic, it alters both the framework-res.apk, and the SystemUI.apk, and so erases the bootanimation.

Thanks for the answers, I was pretty sure I read the whole thread and didn't see anything about swype.

That said...

I like the ROM for the most part. But, I seem to have troubles with WiFi. I can't connect to Play Store, Facebook, Twitter, Mint.. just keep getting network errors or connection errors.

Is anyone else having WiFi issues?

I solved that problem by going to -settings, apps, manage apps, all apps, scroll to google framework services & clear cashe & data, then reboot

Okay, so I gleaned that in order to use QPST, you have to dial ##DIAG# and enable diagnostic mode. (For other newbs out there, I'll point out that the MSL is in /sys/devices/virtual/lg_fw_diagclass/lg_fw_diagcmd/msl). So I was able to use QPST, back up my settings, and put on a new PRL. (Data remains horrible. I guess that's for the data thread, though.)

Still can't use LGNPST in anything other than emergency mode, but I guess I don't particularly need it at this point.

I also found a "delayed lock" app, by the maker of the Notification Toggle app mentioned above. Working well so far.

It's interesting coming from the Optimus V. The OV has ICS/Jellybean ROMs available, so there are more bells and whistles. And data was seemingly much better (although I'd be interested to get exact speedtest numbers, but now that I activated my OE, the OV doesn't even boot -- BTW, is that normal?)

However, the OE is much sleeker both in terms of size/weight and how it runs. The screen seems nicer. And most of the bells and whistles can be replicated by apps. (Also, the OV ICS/JB mods generally had disadvantages -- bad battery life, stuff like camera & mic not working well, etc.)

Overall, I think I will stick with the OE, mostly due to this ROM! Thank you!

It seems the clarinet notification sound is not included in this ROM. Does anyone have the file?

The audio was entirely overhauled and the clarinet was left out.

However, I just whipped up a CWM-flashable .zip file for you to get the clarinet back. It's attached to this post.

Thanks awesome. I assume I install zip from SD card just like a ROM but not need to clear cache and stuff?

Artine, a few questions:

  1. Is there a way to get the stock News & Weather app back in Sleipnir? I could probably live without it, but I'm curious if there is a way for me to get it back. Restoring it from Titanium Backup did not work (TB just froze up with a "restoring News & Weather app" message).
  2. I liked the stock battery icon which gave me a clear indication that the phone was charging because the icon had a "battery charging" animation. The current battery icon with Sleipnir doesn't do this. Is there a way I can get that icon back? The other suggestion is to implement a battery charging animation into the current icon.
  3. I also would like to see if there's a way to get the stock notification area icons back, since I actually liked them. No idea if there is some way to get a choice between those and Sleipnir's defaults.
  4. Features list indicates a feature of the ROM is "Silent Camera." This was not the case when I tested my camera, as the shuttle sound still plays when a photo is taken with the stock camera app (no sound with Camera360). I prefer the stock app and you've mentioned that you managed to get the sound not to play by just removing the sound file from /system altogether. What was the title of that file or its location? Using Total Commander I found many system sound files, but could not locate the camera shuttle file (maybe I just didn't look hard enough).
Thanks for all your hard work!

As far as I know amaranthine, you can find some of the camera sounds in /system/media/audio/ui........ However I'm unsure but you might have to go into /system/app/CameraApp.apk/res/raw, and delete the proper .ogg files in there.

Unfortunately, restoring anything from Titanium Backup after a ROM switch will fail, and potentially cause other problems, but there is a guide, found here, for restoring data post-ROM-swtich.

  1. IIRC, the News and Weather app is part of that Mobile-ID bloatware pack that starts installing ASAP on stock. I could be wrong, though. There are plenty of News & Weather apps out there, including the Weather Channel's app, Local News, Weather, and More, and News & Weather (beta). The reason I say it's part of the Mobile-ID bloatware package is because there's no .apk for it. If you'd like, I could whip up a flashable .zip for you to install Mobile-ID, though. The other News & Weather apps, however, should be up to date and still maintained, whereas many of the stock apps are not.
  2. Interestingly enough, the current battery icon does have a charging animation, which is simply telling you the current percentage amount. A large part of the reason the stock icon was removed is because it was terribly ill-designed and very inaccurate. It would look full and really be 80-90%, and look higher than it is or lower than it is, leaving you guessing. The current icon replaced it because it was quite clear as to how much battery life you have. I could see about making a different charging animation for it, though, absolutely :) I've actually been considering this for some time. Anyone else want a different charging animation, too?
  3. As for the icons, they're a cross between the Ice Cream Sandwich UI and Jelly Bean UI, to make it more modern than Gingerbread. However, there is a theme chooser made by Hashtag that can allow you to switch the theme if you'd like :)
  4. You can remove it by deleting the associated files from /system/media/ui, but this was actually already done in Sleipnir in each build. However, this is a known case of Android having its own mind, where - despite the exact same conditions - the camera may or may not be silent. The stock camera for me, for example, is silent. The stock camera for you, oddly enough, isn't. Not much I can do about this one, but you're not the only one this happens to. It's silent for many, for some it isn't, no one's too sure why. Hashtag once made a modified version of the stock camera app without its own audio files to prevent shutter sound there - it seems that Android decides at random which to go off of - the system audio files, or the app's.

  1. Here is the news and weather app (I think). I pulled it from Aeneas. Stick it in system/app and then reboot.

I haven't had any issues so far restoring my apps + data from stock to Sleipnir. I've even been able to restore the stock Swype and Google Talk app without much issue. We'll see what happens given more time.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give the other apps a try.

I agree that the stock battery icon was inaccurate, but I did like how the stock icon had an animation where the battery was "filling up" when charging. I don't know if that's possible with the Sleipnir icon given the current percentage amount is already an animation. I'm looking for a clear indication that the phone is charging without having to wait and see if the percentage amount goes up or opening up some menu/app to see a "charging" status.

As for the icons, they're a cross between the Ice Cream Sandwich UI and Jelly Bean UI, to make it more modern than Gingerbread. However, there is a theme chooser made by Hashtag that can allow you to switch the theme if you'd like :)

Cool, will take a look at that theme chooser.

I'll flash Hashtag's app to see if that removes the sound, and if it doesn't I can live with it.

Thanks Dark One! I'll give it a try if I can't find a third-party replacement app.

In either case, the proper way to restore from a ROM switch is to restore the entire data partition :)

It certainly should be possible, looking at the Aeneas one. In this case, it's simply expanded out to 101 images rather than just 6, and each image has a percentage with them. In theory it could be easily done.

First off. Thank You ==> Dark One and Artine for your time and help with my problem.(low ram) I wiped cache partition, wiped data/factory reset, formatted cache, system, data and wiped dalvik cache.[All three times, to be certain.]

Re-downloaded the rom. Verified md5 with AFV. Re-installed the rom. Rebooted phone. With no new apps installed, I checked running apps and saw 85mb ram used, 199mb ram free. :)

Just wanted to ask you guys, if this is the correct value for free ram.

And commend Artine, on an excellent rom. Thank-you.

It will fluctuate a little bit but it should hover around 300mb.

Is there any reason to think that your phone is not charging when you plug it in? Also, the lock screen indicates it's charging as well.

Cases where the phone might not be charging if it is plugged in include if the charger is dead (or the power strip/socket it's plugged into isn't working) or if the charger is not the correct voltage (when using a third-party adapter). Since I use a PIN on my lock screen, it does not indicate charging status.

Thank-you Dark One, for the quick response. You no doubt demonstrate the knowledge, and help fullness of the strong user community that resides here. I rebooted my phone, to allow the ROM to settle in. Upon reboot I am greeted with 86mb used, 220mb free. :)

Excellent ROM. Buttery smooth. Wonderful work Artine. I Love it. Put the elite back into this optimus. If you've got an optimus elite, I would definitely suggest installing this ROM. Thank you for the ROM, and help. Once, I obtain more knowledge on these subjects, I will try to help contribute to the community in the future.

Is there a way I could ask you to make a bootanimation.zip of the Sleipnir animation for me? My gf dislikes seeing "Android" when it boots after installing a theme from the Theme Chooser. Like you said it's in Framework, which is replaced by the themes in the Theme Chooser. xD Thanks ahead of time if you can!
