Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

Yep. It depends on your location.
No, it can't be done without a computer.

Artine greetings to you and the rest of the sleipnir users, what's this prl you guys are talking about? My signal is so bad out here in Riverside county I get less than 1kbs when downloading except from 6:30pm to 7:30pm the average I'm getting at that time is 50kbs, if there is anything I can do to have this boosted without using a booster I have to purchase cause that's not possible please let me know

I picked up this phone yesterday, and after 10 minutes of using it stock (upgraded from an Optimus V running IHO, a CM-based ROM), I knew I had to do something! Rooted this thing and grabbed this ROM!

I'm getting some serious problems with Google Maps unfortunately (random reboots).

I've tried
-Reflashing the ROM after doing all of the wipes and formats (MD5 matches up)
-Clearing cache and reinstalling google maps
-Downclocking (all the way down to 806.4)

I *believe* the issue is with Wi-Fi location-finding, it seems to happen only when that is on, but I can't reproduce it at all when that is off.

Other than that, there were a few rare crashes here and there in the first hour, but it now seems very very stable (aside from the Google Maps thing)!

I didn't do a wipe since removing the program and doing the battery reset seemed to have fixed the problem but I may do it now that you mention it just to be safe. CPU settings are as follows: Max: 1.613 GHz. Min: 245 MHz. Governor: smartassV2. I/O scheduler: cfq

Haven't fixed the problem yet, tried updating to the newest ROM version and wiping cache and dalvik and fixed permissions prior to the Life 360 fiasco and it hasn't worked. When it goes into airplane mode it doesn't show the airplane on the radio signal, just a red X like there isn't a signal available. In the long press power button menu it reads as airplane mode: on but in the wireless and data connections menu it shows as airplane mode not activated. Not sure what to make of that?

That is extremely weird, and I honestly have no idea what would be causing that. As for your CPU Settings, the I/O Scheduler should be noop, and if you're getting weirdness I would try lowering the CPU frequency step by step just incase that might be causing the problems for some reason.

I'll be honest, I just ditched CPU Tuner because I kept getting an insane number of issues, and switched to No-Frills CPU Control, and I have my max clock frequency at 1.4GHz instead. Smooth sailing ever since.

My understanding is a Preference list of towers that the phone connects to for signal, in what order, etc. I'm not sure which PRL is the best, but I'm going to be changing mine in the near future as well. If you're experiencing issues, though, try resetting your data by dialing ##VIRGIN#, going to View, writing down your MDN and MSID, and then going to Edit, changing those values to ten 1s, hit Done, reboot, and change them back to what you had written down earlier, hit Done again, reboot again, and your data should be refreshed.

Did you wipe (format) /data in CWM before flashing Sleipnir?

I use No-Frills as well, just dropped it to 1.5 to see how that goes and switched to noop. I'll let you know if it solves the issue, thanks for the help! :D

Thank you very much! I will see how this works.
Here's the activation app. I don't know if this is all it takes to get activation working or not but you can make a nandroid, put this in system/app, reboot, and give it a try. If this doesn't work then we'll figure out what else you need.

I'm not familiar with this app, but there have been a few apps that I have experienced the same symptoms with--it seems like system intensive apps-- I believe one was Open Signal, and something similar, I don't recall the name. Using No-Frills CPU Control, it doesn't apply any settings on an unsafe shutdown (I don't recall the specific nomenclature used), so I didn't really think it had to do with CPU tuning settings. I thought it might have had to do with Auto Memory Manager, which I use, so I've removed that, though it has provided a boost in battery life.

Anyone try downloading the app Life 360? When I downloaded it and as soon as I activated it the phone went into a boot loop. The phone stayed on for about 10-15 seconds before restarting and I managed to uninstall it before the next reboot, but the only way to stop the loop was to pull the battery. Just a heads up to those thinking of downloading it, this might happen to you!

This has fixed most of the problems I've had. It's kind of the fix-all on this rom.

Did you try wiping the cache and dalvik cache, and fixing permissions, when it got into the bootloop? And what are your CPU settings?

So far for me, changing PRL has provided negligible boost in connectivity--and usually at the expense of coverage area, or phone signal.
I'm still experimenting with it every day though, if anybody has experienced a PRL that is working well in the midwest with this phone, please advise.

If you have root and Titanium Backup, you can backup and restore Bookmarks using TB.
Not sure if it applies, but it has worked for me.

Is there any way to import bookmarks into the browser?

That's weird. That's one thing that has consistently worked real well for me.

I think I've narrowed down the issue. Not a Sleipnir issue I'm happy to report :) Reproduced it on stock firmware (with someone else's Optimus Elite also), it happens with particular kinds of wifi networks and wifi location finding.

Artine, any ideas for where you want to take this ROM in the future? Any thoughts on CM coming to the Optimus Elite?

Just a feature request: is it possible to work in a volume button skip track (it's an added feature for a lot of ROMs, it's possible to skip to the next/previous tracks when the screen is off by holding the volume rocker for a second).

Glad to hear it doesn't happen on all networks!

As for the future, CM Swipe Notifications and INT2EXT4 among other things are some items of interest I would like to implement in the future, and what we can do until the kernel is modified for full init.d support, as opposed to the ad-hoc state it's currently in, is limited for the time being. And, as much as I'd like to, I get all sorts of bizarre errors when using the Windows-based tools for kernel modification, so it never works.

As for more on the future of this ROM, I'd like to take its current state and finished state and apply that to Hydra, and update Project Mayhem with the Sleipnir back-end among other things, because Sleipnir has the most bugs fixed and is the most efficient ROM currently available, so it only makes sense to have it as a base since there's few bugs, and massive back-end improvement compiled from all of the other top ROMs into one roof. I would love to see more ROMs based off of it.

Because Sleipnir is at a stable and functioning state right now, there may not be any updates in the near future, but I will be looking into other ways to improve upon it while keeping it barebones and efficient. A modified vold.fstab is a definite possible addition. And note that while there may not be any updates in the very near future, Sleipnir is far from being forgotten about. Hydra is going to take the forefront of Development until its updated to use the current back-end improvements of Sleipnir, and then Project Mayhem will take the forefront from there until an update for either Sleipnir or Hydra becomes necessary (from either finding something cool, fixing Activation, or something else). One thing is for sure, though: Sleipnir and Hydra are very close to being finished.

As for CyanogenMod: I would like to see CM come to the OE, as I've never had a device with it before (the OE is my first actual smartphone), so I'm kind of excited and am hoping that all of the good things I hear about it are true. If possible, I would like to do a Sleipnir type of build for CM, though I'm better at compiling and combining than actually creating when it comes to Android (which is something that is apparently lacking severely in all Android communities, is a compilation of information under one roof, much of it - though not all of it - appears to be scattered here and there), though I've done some creating as well.

I should also add that I won't be flashing CM, personally, until the JB version is ready. The reason is basically because ICS is a mess, and is essentially only bringing Honeycomb features to phones, but JB is really the next step forward for phones, not just bringing them up to speed. And I know that once the ICS version is ready, they'll be able to more-easily port of the JB version, and it'll be additional waiting time, but I'd rather be up to speed than just grabbing what's available.

So I installed the latest version of Slepinir and I'm now unable to install apps. It gives an "Insufficient storage available" error. I can't install from the market or titanium backup. There is lots of space available so that shouldn't be an issue.

I reinstalled Slepinir and it didn't help. Any ideas on how to fix it?

I experienced a few hangs and then a lock up with my screen flashing on and off. I had to set the clock lower to 1300. Seems to be running fine now.

Make sure you do the 3 wipes sometimes ill format system as well.

Try clearing cache and dalvik cache, and clear the data on google play store.

Thanks, I will have to try that. I seems it was only one app that was having that issue (TV Listings), maybe there is something wrong with that app?

Also...I replaced the default camera with the camera apk file with no sound now it won't show at all. I'm not sure why. I replaced the camera with the silent one several times before on my phone and my wife's and never had any issues. It's located in system/app.

Not sure about anyone else, but my /system or /framework didn't odex post install. And my SD card cache is set to 128 MB. I'll look into though

Personally, I've never been able to get that to work, even on Harmonia. My thought has always been that it simply got compressed weird, which broke the .apk, so it won't install or show up.

As for the app not uninstalling via TiB, that's weird. As in, very very weird. Try fixing permissions in CWM and see if that helps. I'm also going to be adding the fix permissions thing to the installation process in general.

Only /system/app gets odexed. Also, the ideal SD card cache is 2048KB.

Edit: Fixed my boot loop.

Personally, I've never been able to get that to work, even on Harmonia.

I've always used TV Listings and never had an issue.

It wouldn't install the backup I made of TV Listings.

I have no idea why the camera switch wouldn't work. I could see the apk file in system/app folder after I rebooted. Actually the phone first rebooted into safe mode on it's own (really strange right?). I got it out of safe mode but it was still acting strange...

My apologies, what I meant about trying it, never working, and got compressed weird and broke, was the modified camera.apk from Hashtag. I've never been able to get it to install, personally.

Man, where's that at? I need to learn to search better.

I've never had an issue with it before. I think I might try it again. Ideally I would like to have the sound disabled when silent and on when not in silent mode. Other phones manufacturers do this but it seems LG doesn't like that idea?
