Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Just remember what a prl swap does. There are Sprint towers everywhere, but VM only leases some of them. The PRL swap will allow you to access more of those Sprint towers. So if you are in an area with a non-VM leased Sprint tower, a PRL swap will give you better reception. However, if you are in an area that VM leases all the Sprint towers, then it won't make a bit of difference. ;)

Im pretty sure its letting me access the tower thats south-ish of me, maybe like half a mile away. Theres another one like 2 miles away and at a lower elevation than my house that i was connecting to before i did this. So as long as my signal isnt crap at work (which is very close to the second mentioned tower so it shouldnt be any different i assume) im happy lol. Even if the only place i have improvement is at home, im gonna consider it a success then just wait it out and hope for no long term issues

Jerry can you implement the ics lock I've tried third party apps but they drain the battery because it never fully sleeps

I'll look into it, if it's just a matter of theming directly in the build it shouldn't be a problem. If it's a matter of porting specific functionality, it will depend on the required frameworks.

Have a link of an example app that does what you would like?

Widgetlocker does it best. However it does cost. Go locker just made a ice cream theme as well.

Does the latest gapps need to be flashed when you're updated to the latest build?

I just installed the 11092011 build with the latest gapps a week ago or so

Only if you do a full wipe.

Installation

---Updating from a previous BACKside-IHO build

1) Download the newest build, and GreenMachineTheme zip if you like, and place them on your sdcard

2) Boot into recovery and make a backup (imho, not optional ;))

3) Wipe cache and dalvik cache

4) Flash the BACKside-IHO zip file

5) Flash the GreenMachineTheme (optional)

6) Flash gapps (hopefully not necessary anymore, ymmv)

7) Reboot and enjoy

Is step 3 a 'full wipe' ?

Google is your friend ;)

The first link when searching "Sprint tower map"
Wireless Tower Locations from Sprint

I pull this out once a year:

with the new update the button on my headphones doesnt work anymore. how can i program it so that 1 click plays/stops music and 2 clicks skips the song?

I'm pretty sure this was covered already but I can't find it anywhere in the search. I can't send MMS. The message just gets stuck in "sending..." mode. Any fix besides using SMS pro or some other market app. I'm using the stock messaging on the latest Backside ROM.

Can anyone tell me where the setting is to lower the volume while I'm on a call? The call volume is so loud it sounds like it should be speakerphone volume. And the speakerphone volume is blaringly loud... so loud it sounds like the phone speaker will pop and break.

I also tried the Call Volume in the Quicksettings app and turned it all the way down and it didn't change the call volume or speakerphone volume at all.

Edit: not sure if it makes a difference, but like MacFett I had to disable the camera click sound because it was so loud that it sounded like the speaker would break.

The buttons are on the side of the phone. There is a bug in the rom where even though the volume shows its at the lowest it is actually at the highest. Whenever I make or receive a call, I press the volume up button, then the volume down button. This will correctly change the call volume to the lowest setting.

Sucks having to do it every time but it isn't really a big deal. Try it out.

Thanks, pressing the volume up and then down key did indeed lower the volume. :)

I hope this can be fixed soon. :(

I asked Jerry about this earlier in this thread. IIRC, he said it is a problem with the cyanogenmod port and he does not like to mess with the actual phone script.

In other words, a fix is not in the works.

I've learned to just do the volume trick. Doesn't bug me anymore.

:( Unfortunately I may have to either revert back to a previous build or switch roms. :(

Any Iho will have the same issue they are all cm7 based and cm7 is where the problem is not in the rom itself. The only other option is go back to froyo

Hey Jerry, I've been very buisy lately. Sorry I havent been on here to work on anything all. Well, I have my OV still but I bought a HTC Wildfire S. and might i say, its so easy to root and S-off it is worth it. Im bout the only dev for it, so im on my own. And im ambitious, im porting ICS to it lol. Well, i found this. The ported apk for activation on gingerbread i think, someone can try. I still have my V but no time to test im always testing on my Wildfire. Its in the wildfire stock, which ships with gingerbread. any way to upload it here?

Sorry for double post, but I have a question I think is best for you Jerry. Do you know how IHO got the Dalvik on the cache partition? the app space on Wildfire is very limited and i want to include it in my rom im making

This ROM is great however with all the Bloatware the bat life sucks balls LOL. I am using Reborn ROM with the Bumblebee Kernel and my bat life is 1% drain every 3 hours "just power on, no talk". I have tried this ROM and my bat is about 5% drain per 1 hour. Also everything works on Reborn including the new market unlike a lot of the other froyo Roms. Don't get me wrong, this is a beautifull ROM it is just a bat pig!!! I would be happy with 1% per hour but 5% per hour just does not cut it when when your phone is doing nothing more then just being powered on. Anyway, please remove the Bloatware and fix the power button so it does not kill a call when you press it to kill the screen to save bat power. I know you can remap the keys and I have but it would be nice if you didn't have to, I tried all the options to fix this but it is for sure a bug and a key remap is the only fix...

Reborn ROM is a hacked down version of the stock Froyo VirginMobile OS. It was designed for maximum battery life, among other things.

CyanogenMod is a hacked up version of Gingerbread. It is not designed for maximum battery life, but instead for maximum options. There is a bloatware removal file available on the wiki, and you can follow the barebones cyanogenmod link I posted in the OP if you would like to trim it down even more. ;)

If you don't want/need the extras that CM offers, feel free to stick with Reborn, it's a fine ROM itself! If you think you can squeeze more battery life out of CM7, submit your changes via gerrit. ;)
