Has anyone been getting ALOT of force closes with the 11-10 build? Its been working fine for me up until today. I can't give you info on what is force closing because it pops up and disappears right away, but I haven't installed anything new lately. I've had some fc issues with my launcher when I was overclocked but I rebooted and haven't messed with any of the performance settings since reboot. The launcher fC's have stopped, but I still get that "phantom" one that doesn't even let me press a button before it goes away.

If I need more info, lemme know and I'll get back once i'm on my break tonight.

If it just started happening, then it's most likely not ROM related. If you can give us any more information as to what's happening before the FC, we might be able to help. With what you've told us so far, it could be anything.

Sorry I was so vague, I was at work...also, i was wrong when i said i hadnt installed anything. I noticed that my google music wasnt the most recent but couldnt update it so i searched and d/l'd google music beta from the market. That gave me two google music apps on my phone which i thought was weird so i uninstalled the older one. I opened the new music app and it force closed once, but thepopup disappeared before i could click on it...apparently thats been happening since yesterday and indidnt notice it till earlier.
anyways...an uninstall and reinstall fixed that issue from what i can tell atm.

Glad you got it fixed. The Google Music app has to be replaced by:

1- Manage Applications>> Music>> Clear cache>> Clear data>> Force close
2- Use a root capable file explorer, rename original music.apk to music.apk.bak
3- Copy new music.apk to the same folder, and set permissions identical to the old
4- Reboot recovery and wipe cache/dalvik (especially dalvik in this case)
5- Reboot, and enjoy ;)

Im pretty sure i remember reading about that in a previous post now that you put it up again -__-
Should i clear my cache/dalvik just in case?
 
Yes, the old music apk still has some things stored in cache, and the dalvik cache builds itself based on installed apps. If you are replacing an app in a non-standard way, then you always will need to wipe cache and dalvik cache to insure there are no artifacts left over from the previous version.
 
Ill get right on that. It still amazes(and scares the s#@* out of)me how one little thing done wrong can mess up so much stuff if you arent careful.

Amazingly easy to do. I followed the instructions exactly as written and it was painless. Phone has been going non stop for an hour, trying to make sure everything works, no problems thus far.

A BIG THANKS to JerryScript and everyone else that had a hand in all the different pieces of this tutorial and/or files. You guys have made me very happy with my OV.
 
As I understand it, the OV has no tuner for FM. I just use Tune In Radio, does the job well enough plus I can listen to Podcasts with it.

Just an update after a full day in the life of....

Still rockin'!!! Battery life has been unbelievable. Usually lasts all day, but didnt charge it overnight as i usually do, still holding 20%.

Changed from Green Machine to The Blues, not that that bit of info is important to you guys, but, it is a testament to the fact that you guys did a good job of teaching me how to make changes without problems. I appreciate that.

Have the CPU set to 864/480 interactive and it is blazing fast, waiting for it to "randomly restart" to set it back a couple of steps...lol.

Overall, it has been a "WOW" experience. I have not enjoyed this phone this much since I got it in June. Everything is moving quick and super smooth. All of those old Virgin Mobile Apps are gone finally. It finally feels like "MY PHONE".

side note - I was having trouble using apps I had purchased from Amazon before the root. Simple fix, deleted Amazon Appstore App, reinstalled and logged in. Everything was back as it should be. Just incase anyone else is having a problem with previously purchased amazon apps.

The radio hardware included with the OV does have FM specs, but doesn't appear to be hardwired. No antennae hook-up to be found, and there may be some sort of switch engineered in that has not been enabled (a resistor, or jumper, etc). Blarf spent a few weeks attempting to get it to work via software before opening up his phone and determining to the best of his knowledge that the FM tuner cannot be enabled.

(I'm sure he wouldn't mind being proven wrong ;) )
 
Hey Jerry, I wanted to ask, is there a possibility we just didnt have the right driver in our kernel, or the kernel wasnt set up for the FM tuner? Just a thought. Id like to be the first to get this working haha. Anyways, I got my build environment set up. Fixed all the errors got a build going, i want to say thanks for that by the way. I am now moving to ICS AOSP though, keeping gingerbread on a flashdrive to save time. I got ICS to boot, standard kernel, but i got to find or build a driver for the GPU for hardware accel.. If you ever need any help, let me know. for a newb, lol, i have learned alot in the last week

The VM670 has no radio hardware.
Actually, I just looked at my conf file and it still has:
CONFIG_RADIO_ADAPTERS=y
from when I was testing to see if the radio would work.
So the current kernel is set up for radio, so your welcomed to build and test ;)

I agree, bigsupersquid and asadullah, have made some good progress, and judging from the commits to bob's repo he is cooking away too. You might be able to get farther in your build with some of what they have posted, and I'm sure that we can all benefit from what you've discovered. Let us know your progress, and thanks for offering to help out! ;)

search the optimus s section at android central for zefie's work with the fm radio if you want, too; he tried quite a while to get it working, and gave up as well. The OS and OV have identical hardware boards.

when you say got ics to boot, how far do you mean? come on over to the ac thread and elaborate!
I started a special new thread just for ICS building.
my ics generic build boot loops at trying to start power manager (just after system server comes to life.) it hangs a lot sooner if I drop in proprietary files.

Okay I will be on there as soon as possible, with school and my SO I'm buisy all the time. I will have alot more time on Wednesday. And remember I am running off a 100 kbps connection.

I noticed Bob added a custom carrier label option in his status bar tweak settings. Will we be getting this also in your next build? Would be kinda cool to change the text like that!

Oh, I finally got Google Music. I ended up wiping and re-flashing, and then it installed as it should. Googles been uploading my music since yesterday.. 2,191 out of 8,118 songs (I have another TB hard drive full of music but haven't put it in my pc yet!). Dang slow lol.

Yes, I did add the custom carrier label option in today's build. Testing out now, lots of cm commits to test. Should have it up in a few hours. ;)

I only uploaded 18 or so songs and it took like half an hour. It definitely is slow, but hey maybe youll get to listen to music with it sometime before the new year! Lol
 
Note- There is a problem with the bootanimation, it appears frozen, be patient, it will boot up. Sorry.
