Root [ROM] ZV4 updated stock ROM

Whoops, I started associating download mode with recovery since that's how I booted CWM. No-go, however ):

Then I realized that I had to put the file on my laptop onto my "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" folder in my Program Files (x86) directory (I did not create a separate folder like Sands207 did in the c: drive). That solved everything.

Big thank you to danhalen1 who guided me to his posts (when I was in my inattentive state) and his ongoing development hopefully into a permanent CWM recovery for the LG Volt. I am still stumped as to why the LG Volt still does not have its own dedicated thread in XDA.

I put the cwma1.img file in my adb and fastboot folder in my user folder & created a dedicated folder because the how to i read on Xda suggested it to be tbe easiest method and it did help since i was confused early on. Thanks for pointing out that i didn't help at all. Good luck on the volt development guys. I appreciate the people that helped me here too, couldn't have done this without ya ;)

Did you wipe /cache after you flashed the radio?

So I couldn't find a way to extract anything from the radio.img, and after looking through the manifest, I realized that there was a whole lot more in there, so I went ahead and flashed the zip, along with a new SuperSU 2.02 zip, then cleared the cache and dalvik through cwm before powering off, then cleared the cache again in stock recovery before rebooting (yes, I'm thorough :P). Baseband is updated to c8, Superuser is intact, and I didn't have to reactivate the phone. LTE & Spark were functioning at boot. :)

After messing around with this a bit you only need the lgupdatecenter.apk and when you put it back you have to run it again to install it again, and it will prompt you to install the update since it thinks it's installed already, just click yes to install it.
 
do i need to rename the cwm file? fast boot isnt detecting anything....just sits and does nothing.i have files in all directories,just to be sure...anyone else?
 
I could be wrong but I think that's not fastboot. You have to backup the laf partition then wipe it, then you will get to fastboot screen.

To boot up cwm, you'll need to expose fastboot. To do this, download terminal emulator and grant superuser permissions.
Back up your laf partition:
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf of=/sdcard/laf.img
Nuke your laf partition:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
When that is done, turn off your phone, and when completely off, hold the vol+ button and plug it in to your computer. After fastboot loads up you can let go of vol+.

So I was rooted, then took the update and the phone seems to work better all around now. What do I need to do before following the guide in the first post? Will I need the radio update?
 
Without zeroing out Laf partition

1-Download and install rom installer...
2-Save this fastboot img to sd card ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzsQwTUZjTO5eHVPRDRiNXBpSzQ/view?usp=sharing )..its really just a trwp recovery that doesnt work on the Volt...
3-Using Rom Installer, make a backup of your recovery...
4-Now in Rom Installer, flash the fastboot img to recovery partition...
5-Reboot to recovery...Should give error but fastboot should be working

If you want recovery back just boot into phone and reflash your backup you made back to recovery partition using Rom Installer.
 
Just wanted to point out that I seem to be getting better indoor reception since updating the radio. Not sure about travel coverage yet. :)
 
So i got everything working great, thanks. I only had one problem. After flashing the rom and radio i didnt select yes to fix a maybe broken root. After booting up i had no root but i took a chance with Towelroot again and it worked!!! So now i have ZV4 software and c8 baseband with root! Thank you so much for this!
