Quick question about stock evo 4 g kernel.
I just flashed chop suey v9.2.6-universal...did a nandroid backup before I did this. Would like to save a copy of the stock kernel to sd card in case I don't like this kernel. I am running MikG 3, h-boot 6.16.1002, radio 2.15.00.12.19, amon ra v2.3, ....
I did download the kernel for the OTA 4.67.651 to my computer...however, I have 4.54.651.1.
Will that kernel work for my build #?
I also have goldenmonkey v1.1-univeral on sd card to try later..I just want peace of mind with stock kernel on sd card.

I was a fan of recharged.

However this blows it away.

[ROM] SACS Kingdom v9-Updated [7.18.11] Everything...Perfect!

[ROM] SACS Kingdom v9-Updated [7.18.11] Everything...Perfect! - xda-developers

Everything including 720p works and works well.

Ok now hold on to your chairs.

Having said that...are you ready?

I went back to stock ota to take her in for physical repairs.

And the stock, while very ugly, has been working amazingly. I mean no glitches, no hanging, no problems at all. Working perfect and zippy.

I was about to root again but Im like ummm this is working pretty damn good. So Im waiting till I feel its necessary.

I know where you're coming from. I didnt have the stock kernal as a 'just in case' but I did have the ota rom on my computer which I downloaded from some site. that was so long ago you wouldnt want it.

As far as the kernal on its own, not baked in? Idk. I had the whole rom kernal and all as a back up. Though I never used it.I ended up unrooting and then using the software update to dl the ota.

Which you shouldnt do if you want to root again b/c its a pain in the ass.

i think there are a couple of ways that are easier.
1. make a nandroid backup before you flash a kernel. if you do not like it then just restore back.

or

2. in recovery wipe dalvik cache and cache and re-flash the rom. you will not loose data. but, it will replace everything back that comes with mikg3.0 including the kernel it comes with.

i believe that the 4.67 stock kernel should work as well.

Not long ago, I also flashed a new radio with pri only...

PC36IMG_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_PRI_2.33_003.zip....

You have ...2.15.00.12.19_PRI-2.33_WiMax_NV.zip...

Do I not have the new WiMax and NV? What is NV anyway.
Can I flash that new .zip file to get the new WiMax and NV from recovery or bootloader?

yes you can flash the zip if you want. it will not hurt anything and this file is flashed in recovery. and you know, i could never find out really what nv stands for or what it is.

Cool...I would assume since I did a nandoid backup last night, saving wimax keys included, I would not lose my keys with this new zip...also I should see some improvement in signal...not that I have issues now but newer is better?:)

well that depends on the recovery you have. clockwork mod will automatically save wimax. however, amon ra you will have to select wimax for it to back it up. so make sure your keys are backed up and you are good to go flashing the new radios. and with radios it will always be YRMV. so it might or might not improve. they new radios never seems to make a difference for me.

Gotcha...I always like to have the latest and best things but maybe I'll leave well enough alone...if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Just nervous about bricking phone with new radio .zip's:(

As far as the kernel thing..I will save the 4.67 kernel zip on sd card in the event I ever decide to flash back even though I have version 4.54.651.1.
Thanks again.:)

really the only way that i have seen someone brick their phone from flashing a radio is when they pulled the battery out while it is installing. so as long as you do not do that you should be in good shape. just make sure that you have plenty of battery before flashing them.

Thank you so much....:):)
There is so much to learn, so much lingo I still don't understand but slowly I do.
Where can I learn about scripts such as supercharger script that I see some people use....I don't know a thing about it, or what it does.

try and wipe dalvik cache and cache and see if that helps. if not you can try and only wipe dalvik cache and cache and re-flash your rom.

hello,

have you seen this guide? http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

Try looking at it and particularly at the Life after root section.

I am thinking you need to be edumacted on this rooted phone you have, make sure you have amon ra recovery, wipe real well and then flash a rom, I would suggest this one myself. MikG v3.0 [12/17/2011]

The guide tells you how to install it. Check that out and see what you can do with it. Let us know in here if you need help.

you have to wipe both dalvik cache and cache together.

go to setting>about phone>software info> and report back with what you find. also after software info there should be a more option that has more info report that as well.

Ok, noob question here. A while back I rooted my phone and flashed a new rom and it's been just...glitchy ever since. I've finally decided to start trying new ROM. My question is what's the steps for wiping my sd card prior to flashing new a new Rom, as I'm basically going to start over from scratch. In my newness, I'm wondering if perhaps I removed/froze something somewhere that shouldn't have been done. Thanks in advance for your help.

You shouldn't need to wipe anything on your sd card when hopping from rom to rom except for the ext partition if you set one up.

You shouldn't need to wipe anything on your sd card when hopping from rom to rom except for the ext partition if you set one up.
Why would you wipe the SDext when flashing a new/different rom?
If all you have on the SDext is your apps there is absolutely no reason to wipe the SDext. All you're doing by wiping the SDext is forcing yourself to have to reinstall all of your apps from scratch, which if you're restoring them with say TitaniumBackup & with app data is where most people run into problems.
Why? Because most people, IME, backup system apps because they don't know how to use the filters in TB to exclude system apps & wind up restoring system app data & borking their setup.
FWIW, I rarely, if ever, wipe my SDext partition. It's just not necessary as the data (apk's) in the SDext partition contains no system data, & therefore cannot screw up your setup on a new rom. When setting up a new/different rom all I ever do is this:
1. Wipe cache & dalvik cache once each
2. Run Calkulin's FormatAll.zip one time
3. Flash the rom of my choice
3a. Flash GApps if applicable
4. Flash the kernel of my choice
5. Flash DTa2sd install script
6. Reboot
7. Enjoy my brand new ROM with all of my apps already installed for me. It's that simple. It works every time.
I do restore my app data for all of my user installed apps (not system apps) with TB with the 2 exceptions being ROMToolbox & SystemTuner, those two apps I setup fresh after installing a new rom so that my CoD tweaks settings will stick the first time, every time, on a reboot. Done.
Here's how you filter out system apps with TB:
Open TitaniumBackup> menu> filters> filter by type> change from "all" to "user"
Like this:

It's as simple as that. ;)

Added new roms to the OP:
[ROM] NoLiMiT06's OTA 4.67 Slim and Tweaked v1.2.0 02/08/12

[ROM]Red Line v.1.0.1*Custom 4.67.651.3*Update 02/14/12

thanx granite. i have been sorely slacking on this thread. i want to at some point tweak the op better. maybe weed out some of the older roms that have bad links and such. any ideas please let me know. can't do it now, but maybe in a few weeks or so.
