Root [ROOT] 2.3.6 Update

Thanks for the Answer... Actually I have an Iphone 4s under sprint, I learning android programing thats why I got the Samsung Online for testing only, but now some friend just come to visit me from another country and I just wanted to give him my phone for a few months and metro is the cheapest option... and I'd like to learn how to flash it also.. I already load it with the metro pcs MetroPCS_R720_Admire_simple_upgrade_tool_FF18 ...

So any advice in how to flash it.. will be welcome.. thanks in advance..

I have no idea on how to flash it or even begin flashing it over. You might have to take it over to metro and get them to flash it or let someone who knows how to do it flash it for you

Also after updating all the .apks and moving them to /system/app the old fashion way plus added my paid apps to the system folder including hd widgets, i walk away with 157mb free, of course that is boo boo compared to my beast. ;)

Moving everything to system/app frees up memory? What all can be moved?
 
i installed the 2.3.6 on my admire thinking it would make it better but all it did was make my phone unrootable i cant even put CWM on it what can i do or what am i doing wrong? please help :(:confused:

wait what??? you should be able to root the 2.3.6 with the the stuff provided here. it just isnt that stable as the other one. you have to be careful or youll lose root and will ahve to do them again. also CWM is installed the same way it was with 2.3.4 my friend. i have installed CWM onto 2.3.6 before so it can be done.
 
Yo pg? The attain took on the same update as the admire. Do you think that exploit would possibly work with this device?
 
hey Y'all, been awhile
I messed up by upgrading before I rooted. I installed Odin and it appears to be working. I am now in the cwm based recovery v5.0.2.7 I scroll down to install zip from sdcard, enter that then scroll down to choose zip from sdcard enter that then scroll down to META-INF hit enter(home button) and I get a - com as the only line on the menu I enter that and I get- google/ I enter that and I get - android/ enter that and get file not found. What am I doing wrong?As always any help would be greatly appreciated

yeah um i cnt eaxctly understand what you mean but you are definitely doing this wrong. you are getting you steps mixed up with other steps for other things
 
Followed directions from PlayfulGod


  1. Download zip
  2. Copy zip to your sdcard
  3. Boot to CWMR
  4. Install zip from sdcard
  5. Select zip from sdcard
  6. Confirm
  7. Reboot
What am I doing wrong?

i'm running 2.3.4, i did it and now i'm rooted :D
but i have an issue, superuser isn't giving permission to any apps, its not asking just crashing. also busybox says it can't work because of something with superuser. help? :(

Looks like you're unzipping the file on your sd card. Flashable zips don't need to be unzipped. Keep them the exact way when you downloaded them. Then you'll be able to flash the rom/theme/whatever :)

Assuming you're on Windows, make sure your on USB mass storage mode. If you're 100% sure its on, then uninstall the drivers and reinstall. Sometimes, your computer just needs a reboot and it works

you dont need to turn on the storage mode to root with this??, unless they are just transferring the file to the phones sd card
 
when this first came out i think i was the first to try it and it didnt work, of course i didnt actually try to see if root apps work. i just went with what one of those root verifying apps. however, i am currently rooted with this and it is still rooted even after a factory reset. superuser remained in the system apps, and rooting access is working. ive been on the 2.3.6 for a few days now ijs i preferred the 2.3.4 but i just felt like updating it again lol
 
is there a way to get and flash a rom without the phone working?
i can only get the clockworkmod recovery screen. if i reboot or boot it i get stuck on a screen that says ANDROID in a smaller font. i didn't make a backup before cuz i didn't know where to go for it, now i see it but i've installed a rom so i don't thinkbacking up would do anything :(
