[ROOT GUIDE] Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2

actually ive been there more than i would like, but they all are roms for ics, most of them need a ics kernal could you help me out on finding the one i can use for jb.

To which JB are you referring? TW JB (IESamsung's ROM) or an AOSP?

Is there any technical explanation as to how my screen could be eating up the vast majority of my battery even on days when it spends it's time sitting on my desk untouched?

Okay first off, you can't go by the battery status screen as a strict reference. It is not fully accurate. Yes the screen is a power hungry item, but it is not the biggest drain you can have. The biggest drain actually doesn't even show up in that chart, and that is your data connections. I am not talking about cell standby which does show up, which is your cellular voice connection. I am talking about 3g and WiFi. Those are energy vampires. When I setup my phone to sleep the data connection when not actively being used, and wake the connection when I start using my phone, That gives me a lot more run time from the phone.

I use an app like DS battery saver to sleep the data connections and wake them for a minute ever 30 minutes to check for email, when the phone is not being used. This won't affect your ability to receive calls or SMS texts as they use the cellular connection.

i have this kernal, but when i want to flash a certain rom, sayyyyy touched by s4 it says i need
el26 and when i tried to do it on my jelly bean kernal it just kept restating i believe we call that soft brick or bootloop

Take your time and read the instructions dude. You are using EL26 for its custom recovery to flash the ROM. The kernel is replaced when the ROM gets flashed. You flash EL26 then boot into its recovery and flash the ROM

It will work just fine being that Boost uses Sprint towers. You just need to adjust your APN settings to get MMS to work.

What version of Android are you on (settings/about device)? Android 4.1.2 build GC01 is the current. Are you getting a notice for Android or a PRL update? On a rooted device OTA updates for PRL will work fine, but updates for Android OS itself usually break. You either flash a newer version yourself or unroot for an OTA update for that.

I am running GC01 4.1.2 build with a stock kernel/ROM and agats rec. v0.5.0, the update is from Samsung, and only says "System Update" that is all. under menu and about phone, there is a tab that says system update. if i click that will it break root or the stock ROM I flashed?

using a root explorer look in /cache it should be there on your phone waiting to install if you want to take a look and see what it is. I know PRLs were just recently updated.

Hello everyone. Was hoping someone could please help me. I had noticed on my phone it says that the jelly bean update is avaiabile for my device. I am rooted with stock rom. My question is, is there a way I can system update without having to unroot my phone, I just don't want to have to unroot it and root it all over. ota rootkeeper wont work. Thanks in advance......

That depends on what you mean by update. If it is a PRL or profile update then yes. OTA updates to Android itself break on rooted devices. Are you still on ICS? You can flash GC01 JB to your phone that is already rooted by using a one click install.

Yes im still on ics. when I go to boost zone, then my device at th bottom device tips and tricks I noticed it says software update android jellybean os upgrade is available for your device. I was hoping there was a temp unroot I could use. I see that superuser has a temp unroot but not sure how or if it will work.

I don't know if voodoo ota rootkeeper will work. I haven't tried I. does anyone know if it works with the boost mobile Samsung galaxy s2?

You could use framaroot to unroot then update then re-root with framaroot dl mobile Odin and flash a recovery kernel....that's what I did ...the whole process took me 15 minutes or less

Yea I should of used framearoot but I didn't use it to root. so would I still be able to unroot with it? I used SXTP_Agat_BSTFL24-v0.tar in odin and the installed superuser zip.
