[ROOT GUIDE] Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2

Okay, just got my phone, couple quick questions. it is the FL24 build. So can i update to GC01 thru kies and root before i activate it? also, during the rooting process which files are to copied to the SD card?

Most people activate their phone before doing any updating. Yes, you could update it to GC01 before activation. I would recommend rooting after activation only to avoid things needed by the phone for activation being accidentally changed or removed.

If you are following the root guide, you just need to use the recovery kernel for GC01 instead of the one for ICS if you are on GC01. Only the superuser goes on the phone's sdcard (either the internal or the external one if you have one), the kernel .tar file gets used by Odin on the PC to put it on the phone.

Follow Up: Codegerm all your information is spot on, I am now a proud owner of a rooted Samsung Galaxy SII (SPH-D710BST), running GC01 JB. Also, It was easier to just upgrade to GC01 thru Kies Lite before I even activated the phone. After the activation everyhting went like clockwork, I also used Triangle Away app to get rid of the yellow triangle at startup. Again, Codegerm thank you, much appreciated Bro. !!

after all instructions completed, my phone will not turn on. It gets to the Samsung screen and then goes blank and is off. What did I do wrong?

Glad you are up and working, What is your Android version number? Go in settings and about device and you will see it.

Hi lady1love and Welcome to AF :), if you looking to root your phone and keep your data, this link will get you started, just download, install, put your phone in download mode( hold power button and volume button up) with your usb plugged into your phone and it will install GC01 with root and you will keep all data, I would backup your data as that's always a good thing do when you do any rooting process....

Hey guys, can you help me?

I have a Boost Mobile Galaxy S2. I rooted it last year when it had ICS installed on it using the instructions in this thread.
I recently installed Samsung's Jellybean update, and then rooted the phone once again using the instructions listed in this thread...

For the most part everything is working OK, but, I'm having some serious battery drain issues. My phone's battery life is downright pathetic compared to what it was when I was running ICS. Looking at the battery stats, for some reason it says my screen is using up to 40%-60% of the battery... Even when I go the entire day without barely having the screen on! How is that possible?! Something is clearly wrong here, what should I do to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Ok first you rooted using Odin to flash a kernel and then flashed in super user? What kernel did you use?

@ Codegerm: SXTP_Agat_GC01-v0.5.0, it was linked here in this thread.

@ Doc: I've already killed all the major bloatware on this phone, including google now and all the samsung junk, and I've never had to resort to using a battery manager before and had great battery life even so... I don't think bloatware is the problem.

Did you turn of connection optimizer (it is in the network settings. It wastes power looking for WiFi etc. I run GB27 (the Sprint labeled version of the same ROM) and get good battery life.

When you installed GC01 did you do it via kies?

so i have the latest jb release, and i rooted it but i have on question are there any custom roms specifically for the jb update 4.1.2?

Okay well if your phone is stable as far as not crashing or anything, you may want to turn on the screen power saving under settings/power saving, also turn off connections optimizer it wastes power looking for WiFi etc. I would adjust your screen brightness down and also would get a battery calibration app. (I do ther when flashing to a new rom). JB for me has always been better on battery that ICS was.

actually ive been there more than i would like, but they all are roms for ics, most of them need a ics kernal could you help me out on finding the one i can use for jb.
