[ROOT GUIDE] Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2

Unless they changed something the update to JB wasn't pushed OTA due to size and probably the partition change too (JB has a /preload partition). You had to use the upgrade tool to get it or flash it in direct. Due to that partition change I do recommend doing a one click install to get on GC01 when coming from ICS.

Does anyone know how I can get wireless tether for root users to work. now that I updated from ics to jelly bean 4.1.2 it wont work. it was working fine till I updated. If not any other app anyone could recommend. Thanks in advance

I'm new to the S2, coming over from the ZTE Warp, it came already with Jelly Bean 4.1.2 but I want to root it just to get rid of the Sprint Phone Info as the device Manager and unbloat it a bit. But Im pretty sure I'll be flashing ROMs soon too!

I've been reading the OP and downloaded Samsung Kies and Odin 1.85. When I go to unzip Odin into C:\Odin it only shows 1 file. SymCCIS.dll--application extension-- 279 kb. Is this right and how do I use it? Does it open automatically when I boot into download? Or will I need to open it manually?

Also, I know I need to download SU, that's not a problem. My second question is about the JB Kernal I'll need to DL. Will it break my 4G service? More of a curiosity... I think I'd rather have no 4G then a very unwanted device manager that isn't me.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me and I look forward to being apart of the S2 community!!

** So I just looked into the JB kernel. I guess I grab the latest v0.5.0? Should I grab the TAR or the ZIP? Thanks again!

So what are the differences in the Odin versions? I seen in the OP to grab 1.85 but there's 2 other versions. Sorry, but coming from the Warp's 1 click root method, this is a little confusing to me. So many choices that im afraid i'm gonna brick my phone. Is there anyway you can walk me through the root process or have someone update the OP for the new arrivals to the factory installed JB 4.1.2 S2 ppl? Thx and sorry for being such a noob.

Just wanted to say Thanks to CodeGerm for recommending Jellyverse rom! I tried several others like Jellybam, Carbon, CM 10.1 and others with problematic results everytime. Jellyverse is running smooth and no problems as of yet going on 2 weeks now!

Hello everyone. Was hoping someone could please help me. I had noticed on my phone it says that the jelly bean update is avaiabile for my device. I am rooted with stock rom. My question is, is there a way I can system update without having to unroot my phone, I just don't want to have to unroot it and root it all over. ota rootkeeper wont work. Thanks in advance......

None that I am aware of. Go to Wilco12s Rom repository and look for GC01 Stock Rooted and flash that. You will be on the latest Boost Jellybean updated and Stock. Oh yeah, there is a choice to download save data or no data save versions also. He has choices of Odin flash, Windows .exe or zip to use with CWM recovery. I had no luck with the Windows .exe myself. You will also find the GC01 kernal and I think the modem there.

I want to apologize in advance but I have never rooted an Android before. Anyways I downloaded the latest version of Kies, Odin 3.09, and what I believe to be the correct version of the kernel that is to be used to root a Boost Mobile GC01 4.1.1 Galaxy S2(SXTP_Agat_BSTFL24-v0.2.0.tar). After using Odin to put the kernel onto my Android, I put my phone into the custom recovery as instructed. I had a problem, however, when I went to mounts and storage and then clicked mount USB storage. It gives me an error message that reads: E: Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)

I cannot figure out what to do or even how to get my phone back to the prior state that it was in. Can somebody please be kind enough to give a total noob some help?

The FL24 kernel is not for GC01 which is Jelly Bean. FL24 is ICS. Use this the kernel from here:
Rwilco12's Android Repository - Downloads

Version 0.4.1 or 0.5.0 of this kernel. (yes it says GB27 but that is just the build number for the Sprint labeled version of the same ROM).

Alternatively, you can use this kernel.

[UPDATE][KERNEL][SOURCE] JB GB27 v1.4.2 with AGAT tREC_v0.3.5 recovery 08/14/13 - xda-developers

Thanks for your help! Not quite done though. I managed to update to the proper kernel and now the phone is working again. However I did not do the superuser part correctly and I have a rather dumb question: Do I need to use an SD card? I only have the internal memory and that's where I tried putting the zip file too and using the AGAT recovery to install. I checked though and I still do not have superuser access. Should I go out and spend 20 bucks to get a card or is there a workaround to that problem?

Will installing a pre-rooted ROM mess up anything with my Boost Mobile settings or whathaveyou? I could always just go buy an SD card I just never needed one until now.

The One-Click Root Rom will bring your phone back to the day you bought it.... but with root access. I'm not sure it will work or not, but if you have a Samsung account there's an option to save data so setting might be included. If not, it shouldn't take you long to get your settings back where you like them.

It's a good idea to get a SD card anyway. You'll want to make back-ups of your phone b4 flashing different ROMs and stuff.

I managed to set it up properly thanks to everybody here =D Now i'm just trying to figure out why LMT won't respond to any gestures even though it's been setup
