[ROOT GUIDE] Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2

HELP!

When I try to choose a zip from my sdcard in AGAT Recovery to try to install Superuser, I tryed opening both of the folders, system and META-INF, but it says "No files found".

How do I find this Superuser folder. I did put both of the system and META-INF folders in my sdcard.. but it still says No Files are Found in AGAT Recovery. Maybe I have to put it somewhere else in my sdcard, I don't know. P.S And I did choose the option "Choose zip from sdcard" and not "Choose zip from internal sdcard" From the AGAT Recovery

PLEASE HELP ME! THANK YOU.

OK.. so if you already have agar recovery then your finished the hard part.. you don't need to mess with meta or any other system folders. If you downloaded the super user zip from your phone then it will most likely be on the SD card in a folder named downloads.. it doesn't matter where it is on your SD card or which SD card its on as long as you know where it is to locate it after you hit install from zip in recovery.. I would suggest going into recovery then hit install from zip on internal SD. Then click on the folder downloads and if the superuser zip is there then flash it.. then reboot system and it will be in your app drawer meaning your now rooted.. keep us informed

Had no problems with the tutorial untill the recovery process...i go to "mount usb storage" and get E:Unable to write to ums lunfile ( No such file or directory)...i followed step by step, no getting the whole move the superuser binary over to the sd card. Also i dont have a sd card only a internal sd, is that why?...Also i tried to put the zip on the phone and install from recovery and it ends up "intsallation aborted"

i flashed this and got it working pretty easily. however im noticing issues with netflix. i dont know if its just the app or what. seems like netflix app will only work over wifi and not 4g. youtube will work over 4g no problem. also i have both 3g and 4g still. i think the speeds are still the same. i would like to go back to stock to test, my stock version was also fl22 (the link on the dev forums is dead). i notice the stock version in this thread seems to be fg31, does anyone have a stock version of fl22 i could use to flash back to stock?

Try the repository you can get kernels, modems, and even ROMS (leaked repository)

Rwilco12's Android Repository

cool thanks, can i flash this the same way as above safely or do i need to flash it the way it says on the page? also could this kernal mess up netflix over 4g? i really think that doesnt sound right. its the only thing giving me a problem. im able to do every thing else and paypal app isnt working either. im getting ssl error. but this works over wifi also

yup, just as i suspected, as soon as i went back to stock it works again ;\ it seems like i am still rooted though... lol and no triangle is there so i guess im good? seems like im better then what i was ;]

If other things are working over 3g/4g I would say the problem is with the app itself. Try clearing data on the app or uninstalling then installing it again. I would try this first before changing a kernel, modem or ROM

As far as flashing a kernel make sure you flash one for your ROM (stock being a TW ICS). There are also repacks of stock kernel with recovery available. Depending on the file you use it would be either zip (cwm flash-able), tar/md5 (Odin flash-able), or OC (One click with its own installer)

i can confirm that it was the agat included in this thread. as soon as i flashed back to the stock kernel everything started working right away. my phone is still rooted too and there is no more yellow triangle so i am happy :) my 4g speeds are also faster then they were with the agat.

So I shouldn't follow root method of installing agat? which version did you use?

I followed all of the instructions and I rooted my phone. I don't know why I'm rooting, i just know the phone doesn't work well. I can't find this superuser thing. I don't know if it's important or if the rooting actually changed anything. can someone help?

follow the root method but after you have rooted flash back to your stock kernal and everything should be fine.

i flashed back using
Rwilco12's Android Repository

my phone came with FI22 so i used that one. and when i flashed back to it my 4g speeds were restored and the yellow triangle was removed. I dont use custom roms so theres no need for another kernel imo.

OK, so when you flashed the kernal back you lost AGAT but kept the root right?

I was planning on doing the FL04 but am now curious if it disabled 4g ..

noob question here anyone else notice 3g and 4g drop off when trying to update a UNROOTED phones firmware(which i assume means android 4.0.4)ive rooted the prevail from boost, but am holding off on my s2 was a gift you see.have build FI22

Yes, most of the ROMs out are sprint ones. They work just fine. You do have to change the mmsc server settings for mms messages, but that is not hard to do and only takes a moment to do.

Thanks, I'll look into that when or if I buy this phone next week. I can go to xda for the roms?

Hey guys,

Long time lurker. Fresh new member to post on here. The guide posted on here for the Transform Ultra was about the only thing that helped me successfully root that phone, and I've greatly appreciated the use of adfree, even if I couldn't run Wifi tethering with it for my Nintendo 3DS. But thanks to a freak accident, that phone is no longer mine. :(

So after being so dismayed with the frustrations of the HTC Evo Design 4G, I ended up getting the Galaxy S II 4G from Boost. First thing I appreciated immediately was the fact that its touch keyboard respects the auto-correct settings that the HTC didn't for some reason. Further, this one actually supports extended batteries and isn't too shabby on the stock battery as is.

I posted a thread on this other forum with a screencap of the relevant information... this phone came out of the box with Android 4.0.4; and my google-fu has only come up with tuts regarding when this phone started out with Gingerbread. I see AGAT mentioned and the like, but I'm still a bit leery, if anything because the builds that were posted were different than the one this one is on... and I also understand that Samsung is expecting to roll out jellybean for it next month, even.

I want to root as simply as possible, because that's just how I was with the TU and I was happy enough with Adfree installed, and being able to take off the nuisance stuff when I needed to. Is using a different build of AGAT okay for the purposes of rooting? Or should I wait for a newer build? At least when I go into town, I can actually use the 4G signal, which I've come to appreciate then. :) This is one reason I was hesitant, since I saw mention that I would need a 'repacked' AGAT to retain that functionality.

I've been reading through this thread, but I still feel fuzzy on the details... so before I took the plunge, I wanted to be safe and ask. :)

Welcome to the forums. Yes you can use the AGAT kernel for rooting. there are also repacks of the existing kernels. 4g speeds are reported to be better on the repack kernel as opposed to the custom source built. If you havend upgraded past build FI22 you can root via the Exynos abuse exploit app as well with out having to mess with the kernel. You also could do a One click install of the leaked Jelly Bean builds, they come in the Rooted and un-rooted variety.

Exynos exploit? First I've heard of this. Is there an app out already for this?

Phone still shows my baseband ending with FI22 along with the build number.

Where should I look to get this, good sir? ;)
