are you using the downgrader from this guide?
[HOWTO] Downgrade Froyo (2.2) to Stock 2.1 (ANY HBOOT | WIN/LINUX/MAC | ROOT) - xda-developers
you need a gold card for this anyway but you MUST use this method to downgrade

the goldcard tool website is gone ive just realised

however you can use this which is the same tool
Goldcard - Root Your HTC Hero

it gives you a small guide how to create one, its quite easy

the download link provided on that page is one of those stupid download sites that have download linked all over the place
the one you want is right at the bottom "download using basic"

good luck

Hi just came back from Turkeys for advice and they seem adamant they my Desire is unrootable due to corruption within the device, they seem to think you cannot downgrade from froyo to stock 2.1
Have tried that one rastaman and downloaded it even that wouldnt work,im gonna wait and find some one in cornwall who thinks he can really do this,im all tired out trying this....thanks...

im pretty certain you can downgrade using teppics downgrader regardless of misc error
what error was it giving when you tried it?

did you make the gold card?

im working at the mo so unable to work on phone,i ran the teppics 2.1 but it got to the part that a gold card is required, this is where im struggling,i,ll try again when ive got more patience:o
wondering if its all worth it:confused:

ok making progress, have managed to make the gold card, wll try reinstalling the downgade and hopefully it will progress to installation :o

Eureka ,Downgrade worked like a charm, ran unrevoked 3.21 and its NOW rooted, taking johnnybravos advice and maybe go for Leedroid rom.once i partition the sd card, fingers crossed

ok im gonna use amonRA 2.0.1 to partition, ive read you can partition ext from recovery in amonra which you cannot do in clockwork.hopefully this one is ok , once partitioned will run it 512 ext for leedroid with a2sd+,is this ok? guys just checking before i move on.......

good job, glad you are finally getting somewhere with it.
partitioning shouldnt be an issue if you rooted with amonRA as custom recovery
all you do is boot to recovery, go to partition SD card > Partition SD. select "0 swap" and "512 ext2" then click to continue
it will format the card to the correct values
once done you should then flash a froyo radio (you are running 2.1 atm) which you can get from leedroids site (i can recommend the .27)
once done do "wipe > wipe all user data" flash his a2sd rom. and wait patiently
as this is a massive change from 2.1 to leedroid based on 2.2 the build will take about 5-10 mins on first boot do not do anything with the device at this point. make a cup of tea and browse some forums.

best of luck

Well done! The thread reached the end of my knowledge many moons ago but I've been keeping up with developements. You did it. Be Proud. Stand tall on the shoulders of giants, (Rastaman, SU Root, Lecter et al) and enjoy your new rooted rom..................................................Leedroid?

;)

well played mate, glad you persevered with this.
another one for the tick sheet, misc errors that cannot be fixed must be downgraded for rooting
