Root [ROOT KIT] OPTIMUS M 2.2.2 (Dummy-proof-3-click)

Okay, I've done this twice now and each time it says:
Code:
Installing persistent root... install-root.sh: cannot create /system/xbin/busybo
x: directory nonexistent
Unable to chmod /system/xbin/busybox: No such file or directory
Unable to chmod /system/xbin/busybox: No such file or directory
Done
What's that mean?

I can use J Pal's terminal emulator, get su status, and CD to /system, but there's no xbin directory in /system. And I tried "mkdir xbin" but file system is read only in terminal emulator.
Maybe the script should use "bin" instead of "xbin"? Just wondering as I do have a "bin" directory.

Uninstalling shows:

Code:
Getting ready to

  UNINSTALL persistent root (UNROOT)

And I'm worried about the "Installing stock VD recovery...: No space left on device" error.

Hi I'm new to this all so I don't know if im even posting properly but I just had to add to this one because I am experiencing the same exact issue with busy box not installing. Even got the full busy box from market and it tells me there are multiple (I tried the root process twice now) was there an actual way to fix this? Please help I want to set my device up so that I may begin learning how to develop apps. thanks

hey, i just now rooted my phone using this method, i went into recovery and it says on the bottom "Build: Ra-OptimusM-2.2.1-GNME:" Does this mean i dont have 2.2.2 installed? Mind you i just recently updated my phone to the 2.2.2 update that came out for the phone (software update) Still have to figure out how im gonna use this new feature out now lol, thanks

when installing the drivers again i have a failed install. error involves the following

Andriod platform Sooner Single ADB Interface

What is this and what can I do to fix it.

I just updated to the newest SW version...probably a bad idea. But we will see.

NVM...brought it to work hooked it up and ran root prog...took just fine. Thanks mate

Yes I had a successful root of my OM 2.2.2 and am happy as ever about it and working on making a copy of the rom on it as I plan to learn to make custom roms as well and try my hand at it, I had done some programmng and had worked some on the open source VLC media player, so now I want to try something new, and this Root fix for the OM is finally giving me the excuse I need to get started on the new endeavour, I am copying and saving the factory rom and getting ready to install Mikes custom 2.2.2 rom on it now.

I would like to thank Mike, Ben, Bob and the many others who helped me on some things, and for this great catch to finally Root the 2.2.2. Now if I can find an Adobe Flash Player app that works on it, then all will be well. If I can't find one then I may have to get one and crack it open and see what I can do to mod it for myself, then for others. I had read on here somewhere that someone had modded a 10.2 flashplayer, and thought I saw something on a 11 flashplayer, but I could have been mistaken on the 11 flashplayer.

Anywho, many thanks to you guys for the Root fix, as of now since I have removed all the Metro crap and the LG stuff, the phone works way better now, the LG Facebook app blew chunks bigtime, and I hated that thing, and installed the real FB app and was happy and now it is all to itself on the phone and is just as happy as me.

Thanks to you guys and the great and hard work you do here.

I gotta say i like the new root and the ROM u supplied mikekelso421...awesome work

however i did still seem to have issues with my market FC on its own. I found a gapps install and did that. Now when i go to create an acct it reboots. Is there a specific gapps that i need install that work with ur ROM or will any do???

sammyz has been helping on another thread i have specifically with this issue, but i thought i would throw it u and see what u think

Oh your using that ROM??? I don't think you need to flash gapps with it, its froyo........ I think you need to reflash and possibly need to redownload the ROM

Here is a side note for the rom from mikekelso421, there is something that was removed from the froyo rom of his that now allows the modified flashplayer 11 from xda forums to work on it now. which is kewl, it starts kinda jerky but smooths out after a few seconds. I may try the 10.2 veersion to see if it plays any smoother, I just thought I would put this out for those who, are still using the stock rom that is un modified to check out mkes rom, and if they want the flashplayer to work on their OM, and keep the froyo on it, then they should check out mikekelso421's rom out, it is debloated with a few extras in it, I personally love the ADW Launcher, because of the customizations you can make with it, it is a very versitale launcher.

No doubt for a modded stock froyo rom, mike has my cudos on it.

You may want to check the launchers settings on the market app and reset it for the app to launch, I had a similar issue with the camera app and readjusted the settings all you have to do is long click on the market app and when the menu pops up on the screen click on the edit option that is in the menu list, but make sure the desktop locked option is set for unlocked, you do that by clicking the menu button and selecting other and see if you have the screen locked or unlocked, if the screen is unlocked it will ask if you want to lock it. I hope this helps.

Hello,
I followed all the steps(downloaded and installed lg drivers, enabled debugging, phone screen unlocked, sd card mounted, etc), I ran the "RUNFIRST.bat", pressed "A" and did all the process, phone rebooted and I couldn't find the SU app, it didn't install. Did the same process like 5 times and still it doesn't get rooted
Could anyone please help?

Hey Mike & board members!

I recently downloaded the root kit to root my LG optimus M for metro pcs.
Everything seemed fine and i ran the superuser.apk to root. Afterwards it said my binary was outdated, and asked me to automatically look for one but it failed and told me to enter recovery mode and flash my own binary..

So I entered recovery mode via the vol Down, menu, and power button.

But this is where its strange now. Im no phone expert, but it doesnt seem like im in recovery mode. It seems like it did a factory reset? Ive lost all my apps and widgets, and it even asked me for my time zone and time/date info again.

And now I do not know if i AM in recovery mode or if i somehow did a reset. If i am in recovery mode can you PLEASE tell me how to go back to normal mode? And if this IS looking like my fone reset, then why and how? I do not even want to download your DEBLOATER rom because at this point i have no idea what is going on..

Any help from anyone is very appreciated, thank you.

If you never rooted then you can't go into recovery mode...sounds like it did factory reset. Make sure you follow ALL directions carefully....doing something early can result in another failure in trying to root... this cannot brick your phone. What you do after you brick is when people get the most problems ......always be careful and READ, READ, and READ. I can't stress enough how important it is to read everything.

What Sammyz said

Just do what Sammy said and you should be fine, but if it gives you the SU binary out of date again, try going to Googleplay first to update it, usually when you get the binary out of date it is because a newer version is out.

Thx Sammy & vulcan..

But I'm not sure why u say I'm not rooted.. after I first install the superuser.apk it showed on my phone.. but just when I ran it it failed n told me my binary outdated.

Why would vol down+home+power reset me? And here's the thing..although no stuff is showing on my fone.. my sd card shows only 880 mb free and the rest 29 gb is taken.

Guys pleeeease help however u knoe.. this fone is the fone of my girls friend. If I really reset her ima hv to leave town now LOL

The vol down+home+power should not reset your phone, it should put you in recovery. There you should have a few options available to you such as formatting the sd, flashing rom, backup of the rom and such.

As to your phone showing 880 mb free and 29 gb taken, that is a mystery.

How big is your SD card that you have? If you have nothing on it at all except the flashed root and recovery, then you may need to go to settings then to SD card and phone storage then scroll down to where you unmount the card and format the card, if the format card is darkened out then you may have to unmount the card then format it then mount it again to recover the space missing. For some reason some people have had to fomat their SD cards to get things to work right.

When you did the root, you did follow the instructions to the letter right? Just checking, cause if you deviate any at all things will go wonky on your phone. If you followed the instructions Correctly the phone is definitely rooted, and from what you are saying it is rooted.

When you use the SU apk it says your binary is out of date, okay, you will need to go to googleplay, or if your phone shows, the android market, and get the SU update fixer, and install it and run it, and if your SU binary is really out of date it will ask you if you want to fix this, you tell it yes and let it do its thing, when it is done your SU should be good to go, when you click on the SU all it will do is show you what programs that need SU permission has the permission, that is all it really does and it can grant the SU to the programs and it can take it away depending on what you do on its settings.

In order to really use the SU you need to download the apk's that need the SU access and run them, you will get a screen to pop up asking for the SU permission, here you have to be quick in granting that access, cause if that screen goes off while waiting for you to give the access, you will have to go to the SU and reset the access for that program and run it again and go through the grant access again, I know cause I made that mistake once, and had to go through a lot to figure it out. but soon as you see the grant access screen, grant the program access. The apk then will have access as root access and you can be able to do more with the program, depending on what apk you have for root, also depends on what you can do, some programs you have to be careful with when you grant them root access cause they can change root permisions, delete files in the system and such, so you have to really be careful with programs you give root access to.

I hope this helps you, and sorry the explanation is long, just trying to make sure you get as much info as you can to do what you may need.

after I first install the superuser.apk.......

How did you install superuser.apk? Through market, because that would be your problem right there.....

When you root, it automatically brings up the superuser app by itself in the app list....

Ok so firstly thanks for the replies and ur time Sammy & vulcan.

Basically right now.. the rooting and binary issues are my 2nd priority. Right now I NEED to try to get the stuff back on the fone.

I DID follow the instructions..on the first post on first page. I DLed the root kit and then wentin to install the superuser.apk. then after..the superuser showed on fone and I tried to run it and it told me binary issue. It told me to enter recover mode to flash my own binary. So I checked Mikes post again forinstruction on how to do recovery mode..followed it..and I'm here where I'm at now.

I need to find out how to exit this mode.. where my fine showin no stuff(pics, ctcs, apps etc) but on the sd card it hasn't veen wiped its still got the data on it..just not showin.

I didn't click format sd card because I've been told it wipes the sd card? Right now I'm tryin to atleast get my old fone mode back (rooted or not)

Thx again for replies

Go to market and update superuser, then update binaries........never wipe sd card!(unless you back it up to your computer first) always wipe sd-ext when changing ROMs as well as /data /boot /cache /dalvik-cache (which you should not do right now because it sounds like you want to stay on stock since you're trying to keep everything....flashing a custom ROM would make you lose everything again...unless you use titanium backup)
