Root Root my phone for hire

not comfortable rooting, but comfortable enough to modify system files? Honestly if you're too scared to take the steps to root then you probably shouldn't be doing anything post root either.

It's much harder to spend three plus hours doing the guide, even for somewhat Tech savvy individuals who may not be familiar with the steps involved than it is to flash a ROM. Posting simply to suggest if the OP is intimidated by the guide he/she shouldn't enjoy the full benefits of having a rooted Ally, instead of offering to help, isn't beneficial to anyone.

Did you read that I am having him root and then flash a rom? I won't be doing anything but enjoying the benefits. :)

I just have to pop in on this thread real fast and point out. YES your having him do it, and YES you will enjoy the benefits, but even tho it will be awesome it needs tending to, my phone will shut off sumtimes...why? I dont ****in know, then it might get a boot loop randomly, or flash the blue fast boot screen...all these things will probably happen to you...but all in all the good out weighs the bad, its all very simple to fix...so i would say do it, but get familiar with the guys in the Ally IRC

It shouldn't take you three hours to go through that guide, and things will go wrong at some point that might require a reflash so why not learn now and do it at your own pace instead of being stressed as shit when trying to figure it out if your phone boot loops or anything other dozen things that can require a wipe and reflash.

Not just to go through the guide itself, but depending on ones internet speed and assuming none of the needed programs or files are already installed, by the time everything needed is downloaded and set up the first time it could well take three hours or more.

There is a thread about it. Long story short, it's not a great idea.

This is just Flicks and a several others oppinions. It depends on what you want to do with it and how apt you are at bricking devices. If you just want simple root functions and are not real Savvy.... SOC is a great way to go. If you are brick happy you may need fast boot so you will have to do Tridents method. Honestly Both methods Are wonderful options and anyone who says other wise is misinformed. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT FROM YOUR PHONE AS A CONSUMER. Not trying to offend flick but I Vehemently disagree.

Picked up my phone from the local guy yesterday - 1 hour service. Haven't had much time to tinker with it yet. Tried to reinstall my apps thru AppBrain with no success so I did them one by one. Didn't take too long. The phone is fast and seems like a new phone. All the Verizon junk is gone. Yea! Will have to see if battery life improves. But so far so good. Thanks for all the advise!
