Root [ROOT][RECOVERY]{Touch/Non-Touch} Optimus F7 FX1

SHOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did everything you said verbatim chev and Im still on the LG screen after flashing the rom. Everything went well and at the end when it said setting permissions it said some permissions failed! What should I DO? I installed the version of cwm you told me to but after I flashed it and rebooted and did the hardware keys it looked identical to pgcwm.
I wiped cache. Then I flashed the recovery. What do I do now? Install my nandroid back up or try the rom again? Please answer soon somebody pLEASE!
This is crazy, maybe I need to start with version 1 then move my way up the latter?
HELP

I tried to use both the recoveries...niether one will work.. i got root tho.. i need a working recovery so i can flash thr rom.. please help

Okay so, I'm using the ZV5_CWM.zip variant and trying to make a nandroid backup of my rooted stock ROM and everything goes smoothly and then suddenly I get a "Can't mount /data!" error. Any suggestions? Would the ZV5_PhilZ.zip variant give me better results?

Did you wipe data before doing the backup?

I did not...But, wouldn't that delete something I need? I'm not going to run the Simplicity ROM just yet so, if I wipe data, wouldn't I have to setup all my apps settings again? Also, do you mean mounts and storage, format /data?

No, usually when data is wiped in this recovery it won't mount it again until you reboot to the system and the back to recovery. Try Philz recovery and see if it mounts data. If it does not, just do an advance backup and only backup system, & boot. Use an app like titanium backup to backup only your apps datas.

Thanks for the tips. I finally got the chance to try the ROM. I caved in & just went forward without trying the stock ROM backup. Ended up having to flash with LG Flash Tool. Not too upset though.

I do like Simplicity but, I must admit I'm a little upset there isn't much customization to it. Do you plan to add more features in the future?

No problem, and no Simplicity has been on its death bed for the F7 since June. I'm tired of working on 4.1.2 Jellybean plus I have no time between work, classes and newer projects that I picked up last month for newer device.

I discovered another boot mode lol. When you press volume up instead of volume down when trying to get into recovery, it will come up with a screen asking you to wipe data. I have always wondered if we could (re-)partition it to have a dual-boot. I don't completely understand the partitioning on Android phones, but I do on a (Linux) computer ;)

I recenty bought the LG optimus f7 from Textnow and was wondering whether this root method would work?.. I dont want to end up bricking my phone, i doubt there's an unbrick guide for the texnow version of the phone so it would be more riskier attemping this.

Yes this method works. Are you new to the scene? Because if you are, there's some basics that need to be covered.

Ive got some of the basics, just now I relized my phone was already rooted. Not sure how, but it already is. Also can I install clockwork mod?

Was just gonna say that you should change:

"hold volume button down DO NOT LET GO" to "hold down the Volume Down button DO NOT LET GO"
This way people will know the first time to use the volume down key instead of misinterpreting which volume key to hold down.

And add DO NOT REBOOT TO RECOVERY FROM INSIDE ANY RECOVERY (CWM/PHILZ) to the bugs section as I've noticed that rebooting to recovery from inside recovery will indeed wipe data. I have a Samsung Epic 4G & I never had such an issue. Also, other phones do not have this issue with rebooting into recovery from inside recovery so, it may be worth editing the OP. JM2C!

With that, if everything is setup right, "reboot to system," the first item that's highlighted when you first boot into recovery, should work just fine and reboot your phone normally into your home screen (the place where you actually use your phone, apps, phone calls, etc...) each time.

Just keep in mind that if you go into "Advanced>reboot recovery" from either the CMW or PhilZ recovery, you will lose data and you'll have to start from scratch.

I hope this will benefit future readers. Happy Rooting!

Downloaded framaroot on phone, tried to install, then got " There is a problem parsing the package" error. Got the right software, unsupported checked, how do I get around this?

Are you fully updated to ZV5? Do you have USB debugging checked?
