Root [ROOT][RECOVERY]{Touch/Non-Touch} Optimus F7 FX1

Is it working now thodol?

gwilgenbusch, NEVER (not shouting, it's to emphasize it's importance) try to boot into recovery from any app even a custom ROM's power button menu unless the dev of the project specifically says it's okay but Always ask first if the dev didn't explicitly say so in the notes or change log. Is the CWM ROM that you installed this http://androidforums.com/threads/rom-beta-3-unofficial-cyanogenmod-10.839551/? If not, please let us know where you got the ROM from before you attempt anything else.

I never actually flashed a custom ROM - I've just been using the stock and modifying with Xposed modules. What I installed was the Clockworkmod "Non-Touch" (from the first post - ZV5_CWM.zip), created the nandroid, and haven't done much with recovery since (not too adventurous in that aspect). I guess I did install the Freedom Kernel (with what I thought was no issue) shortly after this, but nothing else.

Here I am a year(ish) later and thought it would be cool to check out the Simplicity ROM, but I can't get back to the recovery boot to install.

Not a big deal if you've never seen it - everything on the phone still works...just trying to take the next step in rooting.

Yeah, as it goes, the Freedom Kernel is an anomaly. I would simply recommend not using it unless you're a power user. As you see in Freedom Kernel thread, users are having varied issues upon flashing. The Xposed modules are the same so, be sure to check with the community for bugs etc. to save your time. The biggest issue with Xposed on the lesser known phones is just that. Rooting alone is shared by a very small group, stacking changes upon changes with tools Xposed modules brings its own set of challenges when only a handful of people can troubleshoot with you. With that, I can't help much with the Xposed as I don't use them; Titanium Backup is the sole reason I ever got into the scene. But, hopefully someone else here will be able to help. Feel free to PM other more informed users here if you feel the need. But, keep in mind that not everyone can always reply. But, with my current knowledge set of Xposed modules, I can at least attempt to help you track this bug.

What modules do you have installed? Post the name of the modules along with the links to the pages you got them from.

I'm going to assume you installed some advanced power button menus and button re-mapper modules or at least that's what it sounds like...

What issues are you talking about? The kernel is 100% stable. The only issues were when I first made the kernel and it was in the testing phase, but that was a long time ago.

There's no bugs or issues. As long as you're on the latest zv5 firmware there won't be an issue.

Ah. Last time I looked into it, some users stated they were having issues. Glad you fixed it though.

I don't know if it's been said, but another way to get root is via TowlRoot and install SuperSU afterwards.

Yeah, getting root on any phone can be done by any tool that supports your phone. Doesn't matter the method as long as the developer of the project says it'll work with your phone.

Sup folks? this aint rocket science just follow the instructions and all should be good.

TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Requirements:

1. You must be running software version ZV5, to check go to Settings-> About Phone-> Software Information and check to see that Software Version says LG870ZV5. If you have a US Cellular Optimus F7 Disregard this message and continue:)

Root:
Go to settings in your phone and go to security and make sure "unknown Sources" is checked.
Download Framaroot.apk <-XDA link
Install it and select Gandalf exploit
When it says done reboot your phone you are now rooted

CWM
Download 2nd Init recovery

Download Whichever Recovery want Clockworkmod "Non-Touch" or Philz Recovery "Touch"
Install and Open it 2nd init recovery
Tap on "recovery apply"
When the popup says success
tap on reboot.
You are now in 2nd init recovery
Install zip and select from internal sdcard go to download and select the recovery you chose, if you downloaded cwm it will be called ZV5_CWM.zip if you downloaded Philz it will be called ZV5_PhilZ.zip. After you found it, flash it and reboot then if your phone booted fine shut it down and do the following.
hold volume button down DO NOT LET GO
hold Power button down DO NOT LET GO
wait until you see press power button to reboot into recovery screen
Press power button obviously lol
Ya got a custom recovery if it booted into it Now make a Nandroid backup.

Bugs:
Sometimes when you reach the screen to press power button to reboot into cwm the screen goes blank and the led home button flashes, just pull battery and try again it will work eventually.
DO NOT ALLOW ANY APPS TO AUTOMATICALLY BOOT YOU INTO CWM!!!!!! YOUR DATA WILL BE WIPED. YOU HAVE TO BOOT INTO CWM MANUALLY WITH THE BUTTON METHOD IN ORDER NOT TO HAVE YOUR DATA WIPE

Does this still work?

Great thanks! Ill try it

Although I should warn you that this is a 2 + year old phone that's no longer being supported by corporate nor indie dev. There are no custom ROMs. The most you'll get out of rooting this phone is uninstalling bloatware & backing up apps etc. But, even then, every game now fully implements Google's sync API so, that's not even a good reason anymore. I mean it helps restore app & data faster than Google's servers will so there's that.. But, just want people to weigh the full pluses & minuses. There are no real downsides to rotting; that's not what I'm trying to say at all. My point is simply that there isn't much extra advantages these days. Users who still root mostly do it just cause. The indie scene has taken a nose dive since 2012.. Happy rooting.

So in your oppinion its not worth it anymore?
If you only had those options would you do it yourself?

Well, do pardon me but, allow me to explain a few things first. Google's home is The United States of America. Yes, Microsoft, Google & Apple sell products in other countries but, not as much as they do in America. A lot of what these tech companies sales are based on is American temperature, i.e. economic, social & political issues. It's kind of hard to care about the next Samsung when your people are being gunned down in the middle of the street. It's kind of hard to care about how Intel is investing in faster CPUs for consumer products when they create exclusive hardware for the US military so, I'm supporting a war machine I don't approve twice; first by paying taxes then again by supporting a company that supplies the US military. I know it seems strange but, this is what we think subconsciously only now more and more people are becoming enlightened to it. Simply put, you can't sell shit to a sad man. American morale is low whether white people want to admit it or not.

Since CyanogenMod went retail, every other reputable indie dev wanted to do the same. Unfortunately, without a solid hardware vendor, it's not happening; even if you get the hardware, there's no guarantee you're going to take off. If you have an idea for a car that tops the Mercedes Benz, doesn't mean you're gonna get a contract. That said, there are cars that top the Mercedes Benz; not too many people drive them but, they exist. If you do land a solid hardware vendor, how do you decide who gets paid what? In an already fragmented environment, consumers don't want an over-saturated OS market with already lackluster and gimmicky hardware market.

These are arguably the best of what Android custom ROMs can offer:

As you will see, most these projects have gone on a hiatus or are seemingly abandoned/poorly marketed. Simply put, the magic is gone. Every benefit in having a custom ROM in the first place has been replaced with Nova Launcher & Xposed Framework. Yes, there are still some custom ROM teams out there but, most of them are just remixes of past projects; there isn't much of anything new going on.

I do have my phone rooted but, that's because I want to get rid of the few bloatware this phone has. It's not 2011 anymore. People don't install loads of apps anymore. So, you have to take into consideration what you mostly use your phone for. If you could use the extra space for apps, go for it but, if you don't even reach the storage limit, there honestly isn't much more benefits to rooting this phone aside from a few neat customizations; keep in mind Nova Launcher doesn't require root.. Because phones are getting better hardware these days, app developers think it means they can use it to store larger block chains of data on your phone to track you and everyone you know (DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING BY FACEBOOK ON YOUR PHONE ! ! !) so, app sizes can get larger than they use to. If you clear cache & that still isn't helping with storage space then yeah, root & uninstall bloatware.

Alright i appreciate it! Thanks

What do you mean exactly? This is a root thread.. Exactly which file are you trying to download?
At the beginning of this thread there are two files to choose to download for rooting; the zv5_cwm and the zv5_philz. I am trying to download these so i can complete the root.
