Can you post how to do a complete system dump? If its something I can do would be more than happy to try.

WARNING! I dealt with another bricked device last night. YOUTUBE may not be your friend! DON"T FLASH THE PIT!!!! It will repartition your device leaving ONLY the bootloader.

On another note, my mother in law is coming to town so I won't be working on the kernel until she leaves. I am reviewing the code and trying to find another device with similar needs. As always, IRC is a good place to get help and read BEFORE you brick. Cheers to all and good luck.

It's fine to use the pit file. Most of us did.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are trying to say.

It's been a while so I am trying to keep the users updated a little. I am working on two fronts to achieve a custom recovery, which to me is higher priority than kernel mods. On one front I am trying to port/repair the drivers for the source code. I have 14/19 making properly now and the other five are all related to the BML and RFS support in some way so the dependencies are pretty complex. It's a carryover from Froyo...The second effort is on repacking the stock kernel with a custom recovery. I have reviewed the tools and have slowly been adding device specific files into the repack system. Once either of these methods produce a working kernel I will put the files on Github. Tonight I could use a tester on irc.

If anyone would like to flash this and let me know how it works that would be great. Also, a couple people seem dedicated to getting a dev device. If a couple more people would throw in it would be about bought already. An Attain sold on ebay a couple days ago for about $100. It was a refurb, but it was clean esn and grey...

To get back to working in the event tmy kernel doesn't work use this kernel: http://www.waywardpilgrim.net/Samsung/SCH-R920/kernel/attainkernel.tar

Thanks Shabbypenguin for that stock kernel.

Ok, good, um, bye now...

Root Finally?: How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G (SCH-R920) on MetroPCS - TheUnlockrTheUnlockr

A young guy at the Metropcs store near my house showed me this webpage when i mentioned to him that i wanted to root my wife's phone. I'm tempted to do it but its my wife's phone...that kinda says it all. So i'll settle for pointing the page out and maybe someone with tech know-how will give the nod of approval.

Looks to be the same deal as here.

;)

Just follow the directions completely and it'll work out just fine.

Keep in mind, after you load the pit file Odin checks repartition automatically. Uncheck it before you hit start or your phone will be screwed up. And you'll have an angry wife

With the help of thomasskull666 we got a working/booting fully functional repacked kernel. This is a good step towards a custom recovery, which means ROMS, nom nom nom. Heres a link : http://www.waywardpilgrim.net/Samsung/SCH-R920/kernel/sch-r920-voodoo-kernel-0.0.1.tar

Bear in mind this kernel only adds
ro.secure=0
ro.allow.mock.location=0
ro.debuggable=1
persist.service.adb.enable=1

so adb has su by default so don't expect much. This is more of a development guidepost than anything. but, whatever. I hope someone sees this message and sends a ship to save me.

Do we just load this in odin the same way we did for the rooted image?
