Root [Root] Venice Rooted - Details

OK, I am not sure if my phone is rooted now or for sure 100%. What I can tell you is that I do have the following apps installed and did run Root Checker from the market. It did tell me I have root access.

Installed -

Root Explorer
BusyBox
Superuser

All of which are telling me that they are rooted.

Ok now with that being said here is my problem. When I go into rootexplorer and copy/paste any apk file to my sdcard it works when I look for it inside my phone. But, when I plug my phone in to my computer and look for that same apk file on the sdcard it is no longer there. It is only there when I look at it inside the phone.

Is this because I am running ICS or is my phone not really rooted at all?

Here is what I used to gain root.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460

Now the last phone he roots is the LG Optimus G from Canada which has the same build number as my phone both running android 4.0.4. When I ran the program it ran thru everything the same as his and told me I had root.

Do I really? Can someone please comment on this problem? If I do have root thats great but why can't I see the apk's on my sdcard outisdie the phone?

The more I play with this phone the more I think it is rooted finally. I was able to get to the apks and decompile them. Still gonna be a while before I do any kind of themeing to this thing. Right now it running a back of apps with TTB. All of the above apps and TiTB have told me they were granted superuser permission.

Well my phone is rooted for sure. I found out when I went to use an app for watching TV on my phone and it told it can not be used with a rooted phone. So the above link for rooting this phone does work.

Now if they will make a CWM for it that would be great.

Gosh, I was JUST going to ask if someone has found a way to root this phone & lookie here! Pure genius I say

Didn't work for me. Can you give a walk through on how you did it?

first download USB Drivers from here:
LG LG730 Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA
Install phone drivers

enable USB Debugging Mode on your phone (system settings-> Developer Options

enable installing from unknown sources (system settings -> security)

download root kit (also linked in original post)
Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry…zip (4,14 MB) - uploaded.to

unzip above file into c:\LG_Venice_Root (you can use a different location, but will need to modify the next step accordingly).

Open a command prompt. windows Start Menu, type [CMD] (do not type the brackets] in the search/run area

within the command prompt that opens
[C:] [enter]
[CD LG_Venice_Root] [enter]

Verify that drivers are installed properly and phone is connected. Within command prompt type:
[stuff\abd devices] [enter]
your phone should be listed. if not re-install drivers

Run script to Root Phone. In command prompt type:
[runme] enter
[1] enter (for normal root)

Turn on phone (if it went to sleep) and select RESTORE ( i believe the button was on the bottom right of the screen).

Phone will reboot once or twice. When it loads back up you can verify it worked by opening your Apps. If you see SuperSU you should have root access.

Update:
DO NOT UNINSTALL GOOGLE MOVIES OR GOOGLE BOOKS. You will brick your phone. You can try removing other pre-loaded software at your own risk.

Did you Brick yours doing above removal you mentioned? It doesn't seem right that being rooted it would brick from removing those 2 programs. I've taken them out on other phones without a problem. I wonder if that is part of LG's twist on having their own version of Ice Cream Sandwich?

Edit: Thanks MykeHawke and Ghost915!!! It worked with this walk through! I don't know what I did different when I did it before but this made it easy. Root Checker says I am rooted and I have Super User. Next hurdle is CWM.

Yes, this is a problem specific to LG phones. They put some check in at boot and if certain programs are missing it will brick. Based on what I've found by searching online for other LG phones, the 2 apps I took off (which of all the apps on the phone i figured wouldn't be a problem) appear to be the only problem ones on other phones. However, I'm not sure I am going to risk it until there is a way to unbrick the Venice with a new set of base firmware.

I asked Digital Controller to add this Guide for rooting the Venice to the All things root page and he just responded that he did. Maybe this will help get the ball rolling for some devs to help with CWM and roms. Thanks Digital Controller!

Sorry I have been away working guys, but I am glad to see you guys got your phones rooted.

MykeHawk Thanks for the heads up on the apps about not removing them. i had no idea about this problem. I never got around to removing them so i am glad I read your post. I was thinking of getting rid of some things but not now. I can live with them for now.

Thanks for this. I'm going to try it out later when there is more to do with it. This is my first andriod and it's great so far. Should of switched years ago.

Just a heads up about the bloatware - some of it can be disabled. It will remain on the phone taking up space, but will never run and won't show on the all apps menu.

I'm not sure why it all cant be disabled, but to do it go to "App Settings" then find the app. The top right button will then disable the app (if any updates had been installed you need to uninstall updates before the disable button will appear)

Nice find:)

Yeah without a working recovery I definitely would not remove any bloatware, just freeze it using Titanium Backup or something similar.
