I'm unrooting
I put he PC36IMG in the root of the card and restarted (after doing an unmount and wiped it). The phone dosen't seem to be picking up the file when it reboots. At least it isn't asking me to choose the file.
The only thing on the card is:
.android_secure
Lost.dir
pc36img
I was getting (yahoo) and (rhapsody) on there too but I uninstalled the those apps, and they're not going back on there anymore.
When I reboot I see that fast boot is in red I choose the option when Hboot is in blue. then reboot but I thought it should ask me to choose the file Up for one thing Down for another.
I assuming those 2 files are supposed to be on the card and the card has to be mounted to do this.
IS it ok for there to be apps on the phone memory?
ok I downloaded the file again and named it exactly what I was supposed to name it. I put my computer cursor in a blank area below the other 2 folders and right clicked to do a paste from the desktop of my pc where i had saved the file and renamed it to remove the numbers from the right as well as the .zip extension.
I unplugged the phone from the USB cable and did a reboot with the sound down button pushed
the screen has Hboot in blue above and fastboot in blue below the options. I then push the power button again. I see where the text says scanning for Pc36IMG then loading the same. Then is says no.img or something like that it moves so fast it's hard ro read itHowever I still get no choice. I have usb debugging on and the default opting is still on disc drive is that ok?
Now I need to check to see if S- is off now that I'm unrooted how do I do that?
Then where do I go to get re-rooted?
Do I run the sprint update to gingerbead, or just run some other instructions?
You suggested mikg2.5 for a new rom. Will that run pretty much any app? I use vingo for voice dialing in the car.
no problem with the edit. I unrooted because my phone wouldn't update the apps on my SD card anymore.
Do I now start at the beginning of Rooting for Dummies to root my phone? I found this page.
Download Links
But I have no idea which file to download.
This probably a newb question... Now that I am back on the unrooted ver. I believe I have to put something on the phone to get to the loader again. right? cause holding down the power and volume doesn't do anything now.
ok I am doing the "before rooting" section. I put the "superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip on root of my clean sd card. which is still unmounted. Do I restart the phone before I go to the point of putting revolutionary on the phone?
ok but what about the "superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip" file after I put it on the root of the phone do I restart before I do whatever with the next part with revolutionary?
OK I downloaded revolutionary and put it on my pc. Unziped it to a folder the ran the .exe and took the number it generated in the website to make the key. I put eh key in the web site and then put that key back on the dos window. I keep getting invalid key when I hit enter.
I got it to work. figured out the copy and paste. OK I'm rooted again, now on to flashing the rom you suggested. Anything I need to know before I move on to that step?
I suppose the next thing I need to figure out is whether to keep my apps partly on the phone or all on the card? I have a class 4 card right now so from what I read that might be too slow to keep all the app on the card?
Another thing, should I partition my SD card? Or is too late now that it has data on it. I know a little about partitioning hard drives, but not about SD memory.
The next thing will be getting my apps back on the phone from the back up I made earlier. Honestly I think there might have been a corrupted app in the bunch cause one of the app utilities would never count all the apps It would get to like #105 and quit. so maybe I should re-download the apps? I don't know. Sorry this is so long.
Thanks again for all the help!
