Hmm... I try to flash the splash screen and it just goes back to the main recovery menu without any errors or any conformations that it was flashed. Any more help?

lets try this again.
do you have to be rooted to apply the s-off hack?

Can you flash a kernal immediately after custom ROM? Or do I need to reboot first? How about multiple kernals - one right after the other? or reboot inbetween?
Matlock, As I said yesterday I use both (app backup just saved a link for me???) but tried one more time using Titanium. This time instead of doing them all at the same time I went 1-4 at a time depending how big the apps were. Apps like pocket legends and angry birds as big as they are I did alone. Doing this I isolated the problem, Angry Birds Season was making the phone "angry" and causing it to restart. So I was using Titanium correctly. Calkulin's EViO 2 v1.6.2 is the first rom I'm trying. I had CM on for about 10 minutes before getting rid ov it. It looked too muck like my buddys Droid X. Battery life so far is MUCH improved...its only been 36 hours. Went to see Harry Potter tonight and went in around 82-85% and came out over 2.5 hours later at 75%. I saw a 1.5 hour movie 2 weeks ago and lost 40%. Thanks again!!!Did you use this App Backup, or Titanium Backup?
Unrevoked has not been released yet for the 3.30 software. The only way to downgrade is to root. XDA-developers.com has info on how to root this new software version, but it's a more manual process.ok i am new to this and kind of lost with everything that is going on. is 3.30.651.3 rootable with unrevoked?
if not is there any way to downgrade the software to a rootable version?
When the eff is unrevoked going to be updated?
I bought my evo 4g about a month ago (i love it). Ive tried to root my phone with unrevoked, and it wont root. i just read that if my Hboot 2.02.0000 or higher it wont work. my h boot is 2.10.0001 any word as to how to do this rooting stuff (im new to this, VERY NEW) using a different method?
Thanks!

OK - that is an excellent guide. And it's straightforward.
0. The instructions have two threads - take your time, and use the steps for your phone at 2.10 - read carefully.
1. When he says make sure usb debugging is on - home screen -> menu -> settings -> applications -> development .... click the box there
In fact - probably your best bet is to follow Matlock's Section 1: Pre-rooting steps.
This XDA procedure is basically replacing Matlocks's Section 2: Rooting
2. His link is broken for the Sprint Lovers ROM - it has an extra http in it, so use this one:
[ROM] 12/21/10 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.2 | 3.70.651.1 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One - xda-developers
if you want to see what you're getting. And yes, I've just now warned him on that one. One of our trusted compadres, dan330 has verified that ROM.
It comes with and without radio updates, I don't know which he's included.
When you're done rooting, go into your About phone -> Software information and tell me your Baseband version - if it's missing the radio update, I'll point you at that. (It's probably going to be OK - it should say 2.15.00.11.19)
The Sprint Lover's ROM is the rom his steps install - don't jump to that link I just gave you and start downloading - it's just informational.
3. Step 7 is cryptic and warns you may have to repeat some steps to get the # sign prompt instead of a $ prompt. This is ok. This is the point of exploitation - the $ prompt means you're recognized as a regular user, the # prompt is for the superuser, the root user. I've heard of people repeating this several times.
Do not panic.
4. Step 14 - this is your nandroid backup. Do it. At this point you have the Sprint stock rooted rom without the bloatware locked down.
5. I would tend to recommend the Amon Ra flashable recovery - that's in Matlock's most excellent guide, Section 3, option 3. Yes, I'm telling you to make a second nandroid backup at this point.
If installing Amon Ra is scary at this point - skip it for now. Never rush rooting.
6. You'll find that with this ROM, you can go into Applications and uninstall your bloatware like you would any normal app. Very cool.
Use your phone normally. Report any issues. If things seem the least bit tangled or something seems a little flaky - you may have missed cleaning your cache area properly.
Fix it with these steps - http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/141369-how-fix-froyo.html
Where I recommend Titanium Backup, check out Matlocks suggestion for App List Backup. I've only used Titanium, I know I can save Sense settings in that one.
Hope this helps.
Okay, I'm just getting around to flashing the latest Sprint ROM now from XDA. I've done a ROM Manager "ROM Backup", which is a NAND backup correct?2. You can use titanium backcup prior to flashing the new rom. That will save all your apps along with the data.
And make sure you have a nandroid back up prior to flashing the new rom if you have not done so yet.

What concerns me is this last paragraph - will I also need to flash the radio/wimax/pri/prl/hboot/nv files as they're not a part of the ROM itself?Changes in the new OTA v3.70.651.1:
AdobeReader.apk
Blockbuster_htc.apk
FlashLitePlugin.apk
GSD.apk
HtcLoggers.apk
Kindle-1.0.2.80600055-OEM-SingleSign.apk
PVMtpServiceStart.apk
PVWmdrmService.apk
Sprint_App_Installer.apk
Sprint_NOVA.apk
Swype.apk
nascar09-prod-release.apk
sfl-prod-release.apk
vtt-sprint.apk
Lots of updated files in /system/lib, /system/framework, and /system/etc
New kernel 2.6.32.17-gee557fd htc-kernel@and18-2 #15 (notice it's #15, however it's 2.6.32.17 which IS newer)
AS ALWAYS, radio/wimax/pri/prl/hboot/nv ARE NOT a part of this ROM and can be flashed separately is so desired. You can find them all HERE courtesy of calkulin.
I thought I could just flash this new Sprint ROM and have everything like stock - but rooted? No. If you want updates, you'll have to flash a new ROM with those updates -or- revert back to un-rooted and then receive OTA updates again. If I root my new evo, and don't install any custom ROMs, will I be able to receive OTA updates?
