You shouldn't have upgraded. The main purpose of minor updates is to break your installed root and disable all current root options known to the manufacturer. Software updates come second. It's best to let the experts update first, find a new root exploit and pass it around. Even when Gingerbread comes out, I won't install it until they have rooted it. So far no one has even started working on rooting 2.2.2, at least on these forums. The only other option is XDA but they're not known for working on the Opt M.

Yes, you can use lgnpst and use the 2.2.1 image.

Modify these instructions slightly
http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/364080-unbrick-phone-lg-screen.html

You will put the lgnpst to upgrade use the bin file he links to and if you want you can use the 3020 prl found

http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-m/388511-i-got-3g-my-lg-optimus-m-yea.html#post3049099

Then hit start and dont touch it till its done.

When I say modify I mean since your phone isnt having problems YOU DO NOT need to let the battery die, nor do you need to use the key combo to put the phone in any special mode.

I find it so funny that lg can come up with all these updates to stop people from rooting /appreciating their phones but can't come up with an update to put people at 2.3. Reminds me of microsoft how they completely ignore the ones keeping them at the top of the market. But as I complain I am one of the ones paying the money still.

If anyone want to make a write up on this, I think it would be a great Idea, I could give info, but I dont want to write it up, my grammer sucks.

If you want to pm details maybe step by step i will write it up as I know nothing about lgnpst, or if there is a link to a step by step for downgrading through lgnpst then I could link to that thread

2. Power cycle the phone and wait until the phone wakes up.
3. Plug the phone back into PC.

If the program is telling you to take those steps I hope its ok to do.

Have been working on the thread however, my lack of knowledge for lgnpst is making it difficult as I would hate to produce a tutorial with false or missing info so I'd be glad to forward the info I was given onto someone better qualified seeing as my good grammar doesn't make up for my lack of knowledge lol, the info provided was good enough for me to follow so it's complete.

hi, im having a problem with the market app, i wont update!, and i want the last version of the app, i tried downloading the app and installing it, but after 5 minutes it goes back to the old version again, any ideas??

you need to reboot between each component you install uninstall it then start again install just the first one, shown in the guide, then reboot, then install the second, reboot, etc.

Thank you so much! I upgraded my LG Optimus M from 2.2.1 rooted to 2.2.2 using LG Mobile support upgrade. What a big mistake! It's like they trick you into de-rooting your phone. But I followed your instructions to go back to 2.2.1 and then I did a "VOL DN + HOME KEY + POWER ON and now I am back to 2.2.1 where I was able to get root again. Thanks Again!!

So this puts it back in factory default correct? Which means all contacts, apps, etc will be gone?
yes, however your contacts are stored in gmail. you sign back in to gmail on the phone and presto they are back.
and your apps are all stored with your gmail id so you go to market sign in if your not, and hit the menu key and you will see downloads, or my apps, different version of market say different things, hit it and it will show you and allow you to redownload all your stuff.

This put it to factory of 2.2.1 so you can root it.

When you dumped the bloatware, did you dump MetroWeb also? If you did, try using Joneidy's recovery (or something similar) to reset your phone, and do not dump Metro Web next time. It is needed for some things to work properly (like Android Market, for example).

Somewhere in this forum is a list of 'safe-to-dump' apps, though I do not recall exactly where to direct you. Search around and you'll find it; I know I've seen it here before.

Hope this helps.
