Root [S-Off] Facepalm S-Off for HTC Evo 4g LTE

ocnbrze

DON'T PANIC!!!!!!!!!
hey guys,
so it looks like we have another method to get s-off!!!!!!!! now this just dropped today so i do not know too much about it yet. you need to be at least unlocked with a custom recovery.

here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163013

as i know more i will post it here. but for now like with team unlimited i will not go into exact detail of how to use facepalm. please refer to the link above for more details.

faq's:
  • you will need at least the su file installed and flashed so that you get root permission to add in superCID.
  • you will need adb and fastboot for this method to work. but since you have to be unlocked first you can use the same folder and adb files used to unlock the bootloader. if you do not have it, then you can go here: http://androidforums.com/5389081-post2.html. extract the .zip file into a folder (i'd call it android)
  • download the two facepalm files(do not extract them) and move them to the android folder.
  • open the command window from that folder and enter the commands as shown in the facepalm op.

this will work on all hboots and software versions!!!!!

SO NOW THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR YOU NOT TO BE S-OFF!!!!!!

i think at some point i will add this to the dummies guide. but for now i just want to bring to everyone's attention that there is a new way to get s-off now........so folks should have no excuse now not to be s-off....LOL

I kind of wish they wouldn't have released this until we needed it.

We already have an S-OFF method, and its only a matter of time until HTC patches it. We just gave them a freebie showing them another exploit.

EDIT:

Just saw this is multiple devices, so we might as well enjoy it while it lasts. I'm going to test this out

that's good point. but for now at least it looks to be so much easier to do now then using dirty racun or baby racun.

Yeah I edited my post as you were responding it looks like :)

Since its multi device its already out there "in the wild" so it most likely wouldve been patched for our phone as well.

I've downloaded the files and am going to try this out.

You have extra phones? Our s-off is permanent, how can you get it again??

You can undo the S-OFF with regaw's tools. Not just the S-OFF but display S-ON customizer but theres an actual S-OFF to S-on tool.

Edit: maybe I wont. I would have to go through the unlock process again before being able to try this and thats more than I have time for today

I didn't know that. I won't even speculate on the pointlessness of going back to s-on.

This is great news for the gang with Macs and other hardware incompatible with the other methods.

They do warn of a chance of bricks, not sure what's up with that. I've been following this for other devices but haven't heard of those cases yet. Wonder if that's a pebkac disclaimer or a real one.

PS to ocn - what's not working in the mini-sdk instructions??

there you happy now?:p:D

I couldn't tell what you changed but after reading this repeatedly since last night, I finally got my problem, so I fixed your post like this -

"download the two facepalm files(do not extract them) and move them to the android folder."

I've been trying to figure out why they would download both mini-sdk files and not extract them. :p

you most likely do not. the first few commands is what gives you supercid.

Gotcha, I don't know if it's just me or the instructions are just not user friendly for those of us that just can't grasp this stuff to well.

it assumes you have a basic understanding of adb and fastboot.

what parts are you having difficulty? we can guid eyou thru it if you like.

I know how to use the command prompt in Windows, and have gotten unlocked with the HTCDev method and I am running the ViperROM.

I just dont understand what the actual first step is...do I open command promt from the Android folder and then just enter this?

adb shell su echo -ne "22222222" | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=20
