Root [S-Off] Facepalm S-Off for HTC Evo 4g LTE

I got an S3 as a replacement for now and am just worried Sprint will determine my problems are self inflicted after realizing i had root.

well if you want we can start a new thread and trouble shoot what is wrong with your phone. there might not be a need to take it in.

or you can continue here and we can try and get you s-off first before you take it in......but that will be up to you how you want to proceed.

I already got my S3 and I just want the splash screen to be normal i have to send sprint my Evo within 14 days. I know in bootloader it will say relocked but that's the only sign. There is a zip script that sets your main version to generic 1.0.0.0 and supposedly lets you run the 3.15 RUU if you are 3.16 like me. You never heard of this?

yes i have.....its just that you need to be s-off for that to happen.

Yeah, relocking with a custom recovery causes a Security Warning in the bootloader which won't let you do anything but flash an RUU. I told him that (because it's true) ;). But feel free to try it and see what happens.

And misctool simply changes the main version on the misc partition. The misc partition isn't protected, and is writeable even while S-ON, as long as the device is unlocked.

Noob here when it comes to rooting and s-off w/ a question. If I already have unlocked bootloader and root can I use facepalm for s-off w/o losing my data? Would suck to reload phone again.

welcome to the forums!!!!!

i'm not sure if this will wipe data. if anything since you are unlocked and hopefully have a recovery you can just make a nandroid backup and then use facepalm to get s-off and then nandroid restore back if data was wiped. or you can use tb to back your apps data as well and then restore if need be once s-off has been accomplished. i do not think that it does wipe data, but i'm not sure.
 
Hey guys I'm trying to do the Facepalm s-off method, but for some reason everytime I try thr first step i get denied. I've flashed 4 different Roms from stock sence with root to CM-10.1 no mater what i do i get the same outcome. heres what is says.

I thought you had to be on a Sense ROM, but that might not be correct. It looks like you're not getting superuser(admin for those that only speak Windows) permissions. Are you making sure to enter the password 100% correctly? The $ at the beginning of the line will change to # if you get superuser permissions.

After typing in su, hit enter. It will look like nothing happened and the cursor will be blinking on the line below. Enter password now and hit enter. Now you can proceed with s-off. This will save you from typing sudo too.

so if i understand right after i type "adb shell" you want me to type "-" then hit enter? sorry...

I'm not really sure what your talking about with the password stuff. As far as the roms go I'm pretty sure its not only sence roms, but I could be wrong. I really cant get sence roms to boot anymore through so i hope i don't have to go back .... :(

To get a sense rom to boot you have to fastboot flash the boot.img before flashing it.

Some will have an s-on kernel installer that will prevent you from having to do the above.

Once I get home I can dive into this problem more. Its been awhile since I tried this method


Question: is the phone booted when you arw trying this? Or is it in recovery or fastboot?
 
ok have you flashed su? i think you should try and go back to a stock rooted rom first before trying facepalm.

if su is getting denied then you are not on a rooted rom.

Well i did that with the stock sence rom and with another moded sence rom and the flash boot.img went through fine but when i was flashing the rom it cut out half way through . and on the ones where it takes to its own flash sort of thing it gets to about 1.59% and the screen cuts out and goes to htc devloper screen, then gets stuck and won't reboot untill I hold down the button. Also on occasion when i go back to the bootloader the screen cuts out and i have to reboot back to the bootloader and hold down power and volume down then very qucikly press power on fastboot or on revocery. then it just works like normal again.

When im doing the ADB unlock stuff the phone is booted , and when im doing fastboot to flash the boot.img the phone is in the bootloader fastboot mode.

how do i do that? flash the SU? its been a while lol.. i think im still rooted i have seeder and lagfree installed along with titumim back up and all of those are working fine.
