Root [S-OFF] LazyPanda S-OFF for LTEvo[Locked or Unlocked devices]

Aaaah, nice lazy day!!
Bamboo has lots of fiber!:p
Nice and easy via Linux. So, what's next? I don't seem to get the red warning text after doing Regaw's root procedure? I suppose I should run his customizer anyway to update the bootloader?

You're all s-off happy? Cool!

You can run the customizer or just flash this -

[MOD | S-OFF] Remove Red HTC Developer Splash Screen Text - xda-developers

Either way, your target is to be at hboot LazyPanda 1.12.2222 the red ink is secondary. :)

PS - make darned sure to check the md5 sum on that before flashing. True for any rooting, but absolutely essential here.

I've been using Downloadthemall on Firefox to check the md5 as it downloads. Kinda cool!;) I think it would be more fun to run his customizer and put some fun stuff up on the splash screen. That's one of the reasons we root right? To allow us to customize our phones! :p

I just fed the Panda myself. I ran into a couple of hiccups, but was ultimately successful.

I was running the rooted, odexed updated 1.22.652.1 stock ROM with updated radio. I kept getting "Cannot find the Panda?" errors when running it. So I reverted back to my stock rooted 1.13.651.1 ROM, but did not revert to the old radio (I wanted to be able to tell if it was one or the other or both that interfered) and ran it again.
PRESTO! The panda was a hungry one, but she has been fed!

Other notes:
1.) I did this on a Windows XP box, fresh SDK install, and followed the post #475 instructions to the tee.
2.) When running the .exe as admin, there was a checkbox for "protect computer and data from unauthorized program activity." I didn't pay attention and left it checked the first time, and got an error running the program. On subsequent runs I unchecked this box and it ran as it was supposed to.

I just recovered from a temp. brick. :D

Tried the linux version, but I forgot I was plugged into a USB 3.0 jack on my laptop. D'ouh

The unbricker tool is really easy to use once you've got the linux commands down. ;)

I'm goin to attempt to munch bamboo again....while plugged into a 2.0 USB jack. LOL

EDIT:

I just reran FeedPanda and it restored all the corrupted data on my SD card. Attempting S-off again. ;)

EDIT Again:

Bricked again..........be back in about 1/2 hour,LOL

Sucking air through my teeth and holding my breath and...

Nahhhhhh, you'll nail it, the unbricker is said to have 100% success rate. ;)

It's all good EM, just got the green charge light back up soooo.....

Confirmed, she's booting now. :)

I wonder what is amiss in my process?

I have to duck out for a while, going to maybe take the kids for a hike. Maybe the zoo again.

Once I have more play time this evening, I'll be back on to troubleshoot. ;)

Thanks for your concern my man!!!:o

EDIT:

Just checked, Hboot still has S-ON. I'll probably try it with Ubuntu booted on my Desktop machine later. Maybe the laptop is messing with stuff.

I'm absolutely certain you can get S-OFF with Ubuntu. I tried and failed with Windows so many times, at least 15 no joke. It must be obvious at this point that I have no idea what I'm doing half the time, and even I was able to with Ubuntu on the first try.

Wow, that's freaky. I had some panic attacks when FeedPanda and brickfinder.sh couldn't find my device at first. After changing cables it found the phone fine as well as enough bamboo to satisfy the panda so he could unlock my bootloader. Hopefully you'll have better luck on your desktop machine. Linux is definitely the way to go though. No silly Windows driver issues to worry about. Its getting me to turn my old Pentium 4 machine into a server for fun :p. Good luck with the Panda!

Note - that link that removes the red ink on the startup screen - that's a secondary benefit.

The point is to update your hboot to LazyPanda 1.12.2222 so that fastboot flashing works if you ever need it.

After that, you're all set to the max. :)

Hey... I missed this. I need to do this too?

Help I tried to run this in ubunta from disk it all started then never could find the device got to over 1000 so i figured I had bricked it Now i have no power the phone is just dead I tried running the unbricker and i keep getting this but no go Thanks for any help

sorry i did not get the terminal from the s-off

Bricked device will appear to device node /dev/sdX
ARE YOU SURE?
CTRL+C if not, ENTER to continue

Realnode is /dev/sdX12
Ready to go.
(1) Remove MicroSD card from phone
(2) Connect bricked EVO 4G LTE to usb
Press ENTER when ready

*** Do NOT remove usb cable during process
*** Do NOT press any buttons until PandaFinder requests you to do that!!
******** Press ENTER when you understand this!! Really ********

Lets try unbricking once, before we run it really
Press ENTER to start test

Waiting for device. - found /dev/ttyUSB0 - OK
Waiting device /dev/sdX12.......

(when i plug it to my computer now it show as QHSUSB_Dload is it toast ?)

Probably not toast.

That sdX12 looks wrong - the X ought to have been substituted to run the command.

What's the rest of your console? Your commands and the previous process results?

Cant find bricked device:

1. unplug the phone
2. reboot
3. from a terminal run this:
Code:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount false
4. plug in the phone and try again

He gives his freenode IRC channel in that OP.

Remember, frustrating as it is, don't panic and if the problem won't clear, stand back until you can get his advice in that thread or on freenode.

EarlyMon TY I got it unbricked some how just 2 late I had already switched my old EVO back on.

Probably not toast.

I also see where i was making the mistake where you go
n the terminal run the command: sudo ./brickdetect.sh You will get output similar to the following:

The bricked device is on /dev/sdX

I was geting this but with a
G being the noob I just keep copy
and pasting
sudo ./PandaFinder -d /dev/sdX <-----maybe this will help some 1 else replace that X with your letter

(FYI i had a 32GB sdcard and it wiped it clean so could of been the SD why it bricked also )

As they said, they've found no way to predict the download mode getting stuck, so there was nothing you could have done.

It's a risk of going for s-off.

And lots of people are making the X mistake, so our instructions will try to improve on that point and if successful, we'll feed that back to globatron.

Right on with the /dev/sd"x" confusion. It got me the first time, then I took a step back and reread the unbrick instructions. Light bulb! Then it worked. :)

This will be included. ;)

OK, finally got the Panda to eat the Bamboo!! Nice lazy day, LOL! :D

I had to format my SD card, AND factory reset my device before FeedPanda would work. ;)

I'm actually really glad I had to go through a handfull of brick recoveries. Now I'm a FindPanda pro!. :)

OK, back to the S-OFF guide!!!

Congrats man I am still gunshy since I bricked 1 try in ubunta. But I have next weekend.

I know I will use a smaller sd card also. Like a 8. Not 32

From the customizer... he said something in the original thread about it all being included in the Customizer now (or I read it wrong).

The update is included in the Customizer as well. I've never used that.

I guess that all that I can suggest is that you need to end up with a file from the Customizer named PJ75IMG.zip, and install from the external sd card per the link provided above.
